my father worked on the palm dates for many years, those trees were very tall and dad used a latter to climb and once up there dad would put a hook around the branches and other chains and had a "seat" where he would seat and somehow dad would go around the palm tree harvesting the dates in a can, dad would lower the cans and we would spread them on wood boxes and sort them out. Other times dad would cut the branches and let them fall on the boxes. We helped dad during school vacation
We eat organic (Medjool) dates (and figs) on a daily basis. Thanks for the informative video, John. I'll give the honey dates a try.

MEDJOL dates are the most delicious, very plump and soft and perfect in a milk shake! They are more expensive because the way they are harvest is more delicate, the other dates are hard and you can pound the branches on a carp or boxes and the dates will not get damage.
I love Deglet Noor dates. While watching this video I made a few trips to get some Tunisian Deglet Noors out of the fridge to munch on. I bought them at an Indian Supermarket.

actually the off-shoot in 4:02 is considered a sucker and it takes all the nutrients from the date palm,, the offshoot comes the trunk near ground..

oh yes you can use the dried tree branches instead of wood to cook but they burn fast. Dad would make a huge fire to keep us warm and then heat up our burritos mom would fix for us! Us kids also used the palm tree branches as baseball bats!
I've seen bowls/dishes made from palm tree stumps. I'd imagine if they were resin infused, the fiber structure would be quite strong to make other things with.
This is a nice ranch. I wonder if they have grow Ajwa Dates?

I couldn’t not get some plant by mail. They are still old fashioned.
Can you do a video on how to tell good quality dates from infested ones? I've bought them by mail order from 2 companies from California and they had weird hard white balls inside at the crown that looked like insect eggs- one date even had some kind of translucent worm in it. Others have strange hard things on the outside. I am worried that they sold me "culled" dates as if they were good ones, but there's no information on the web to arm the consumer- maybe because it's unpleasant to discuss?
The one that was the worst was Datesrus. I called them and emailed them that 80-90% of the dates they sent were infested, and they promised to send me a check to refund my money, but it never arrived. The last time I wrote them, my email bounced because it had been blocked, so apparently they decided not to refund my money and to ignore me as well, despite my request to return the dates for a refund. I had half a mind to send them to the USDA but haven't. Not sure what to do in cases like these.
STFD! I had a "pineapple" looking palm tree planted in my backyard in LV. I need to find out the name of the tree and if its fruit producing. I got it small and now its about 7 years old. Thanks!!

Dear tv-person, I can recommend 1 lbs or more of dates per day. It is not insane. Fruit is the most nutritious food on earth.
At first I was like: "What the hell are dates?" then I saw them and was like "Oh those things!". They go great with cheese.

The proccess that they made it to make dates get well done isn't good !, usually dates need very hot weather to be well done like around 120 - 140 F digree !, in my country, the dates like in this vedio which look like you cleane it with a water ! Isn't ready to eat, and we give it to animals!
