  • At Sam Cobb Date Farms near Palm Springs and Blythe, CA we are careful to add date bags to our medjool date and black gold date fruit to keep birds and insects from destroying the dates before and after they ripen. Also, since the bugs cannot get to the fruit, the dates do not need to be sprayed with any pesticides. Our fruit is grown pesticide free!

    Wow, Mr. Cobb. The farm is absolutely gorgeous. I so hate that I didn't get to visit. Maybe one day. Leather gloves for dates? 🤔 I sure have a lot to learn. 😁 Thanks for sharing.

    Hello there I am here from Analyticl Gardener Channel. I have subscribed to your channel and very interested in watching the growing and harvesting of dates. Do you have a site where one can place orders? I'm looking forward to watching more of your videos. This is new and exciting territory for me.🤗

    Hey Sam,
    can you post video on how you de-thorn date palm trees??
    tools that could be used to do this?

    • @samcobbfarms
      @samcobbfarms  Год назад

      Hi Gopala,
      Yes, I can do that for you and other to see. I will start thinking of how best to present the process to everyone. There are some special tools to do the
      de-thorning job. But, I will say right now, you will need a heavy hooked knife. A date knife or machete. Most of them are custom-made in Central America. So if you want to make one yourself, there are no rules about how to do it. It just has to work!
      I will get back to you later with my educational video.
      I the meantime, I have a video of a guy de-thorning a palm. He is not explaining anything as he work, but he is truly a Pro. You would be able to see him work and watch some of and his methods of doing the job? Do you think this would be of any help to you?
      Sam Cobb

      Hello hi.. can I keep a space of 35 x 20 feet.. I mean along the road hedges

    • @samcobbfarms
      @samcobbfarms  Год назад

      @@naveenkumar7710 Hi Naveem. 20' x 35' should work for you. That should allow enough sunlight to reach the palms as they grow larger and larger.The only reason that I say "should" is because I am not right there to analyze the conditions that the trees are being planted in.
      Without seeing the conditions at hand, if I were using 20' x 35', I would plant my first row, with the trees 35 feet apart. Then, I would back up 20 feet, and plant the first tree of the second row half the distance between the first and second trees on the first row. Then I would continue planting the palms on the second row, with the palms 35 feet apart, on down the row.
      By staggering the palms half the distance between each other, this will form a zigzag pattern, which will improve the sunlight availability to each and every palm on the two rows. I hope this helps. Good luck!
