- FighterZ is one of the games listed as Unplayable on the Steam Deck, due to its anticheat not being compatible with the SteamOS. This is an easy workaround to get Dragonball FighterZ running on your Steam Deck! Currently Online matches are sketchy, leaving you being disconnected or lagging out, but the online lobbies work, you can play the story mode and other offline modes, farm your zeni and coin, and buy capsules. Hopefully soon an official patch will fix things up for us, but until then we need to rely on the community for help getting this and other games running smooth.

Much appreciated. I am glad it worked out. Come to think of it, the first time I launched i thought it froze, so I closed the game and relaunched it and it worked. That is probably what was happening to me but I was impatient. Does it launch fine now after your first launch? I really hope they just patch this game up soon.

Thanks! It worked for me but the newest version did something to my deck so I went back and downloaded the version from the video. The screen is smaller but I think I can fix that. I had bought Mirror’s Edge Catalyst on sale and had a similar problem so I used this proton and it worked too!

Not only Dragon Ball Fighterz doesn't work on Steam Deck, but also King of Fighters VIII doesn't work as well.

Appreciate that a lot. Tech Tips usually aren't my forte, but at the time nobody had video about getting it working so I did my best. It feels good each time I hear someone mention it worked for them, as for some reason not every has been so lucky to get it working.

On steam it says it's bannable when playing the game as the anti cheat won't work, will doing this ban me ?
Nobody has been banned for it, but you will get kicked from the server, mostly if you join online matches. You can select offline mode and dont connect to the server at all if you want to be safe. Proton was created by Valve to pretty much emulate windows when running games on Linux, just simply using Proton should be safe on Steams end, they created it for people to get their games running on the Steam Deck (and Steam Machines/SteamOS before it).

I can't see the ge proton on the compatibility :( i installed it after exiting steam but i still can't see it.. even tried show games and tried to set ge proton there but nothing
A few people have had issues, it might be something in the video that I did not make clear enough in the video. Here is written out set of instructions to look over. People are still reporting it work, so hopefully this helps and able to get it work.

After setting it all up, did you make sure to click properties and select compatibility mode then choose the proton version you downloaded in desktop mode? Here is a written out guide, I hope you get it working! Sucks we still have to bother with a workaround for such a popular game.

@@Grillmonger Turns out I was just dumb and all I needed to do was restart my Deck, it works now! Thanks for the video!
@@Grillmonger The link contains a couple errors that was preventing me from running successfully. The Python script contains an extra single-quote that must be removed before it can run successfully. Also I think that every line after "def main():" needs to be indented.

@@Jesse-hl5bx It still won't look perfect because RUclips limits how comments can be formatted, but it's basically the following--just know you'll need to indent where I've typed "" instead of literally typing "" (5 lines in total):

It will kick you if you play online matches, due to the Easy Anticheat issues Steam Deck has, other than that you should be fine to do single player modes and join lobbies. You could try another version of proton with the same method, I have heard other people finding success with different versions, but the latest release shown in the video worked for me.

Does proton compatibility still work offline
Just tested it. I put the steam deck in offline mode, and it the game still boots up.
I’m so disappointed with my steam deck I preordered thinking I’d have a laptop with a controller built onto it but out of a library of 200+ games I can only play 60 of them on the deck they said everything a pc could do a deck could do which I guess is true but they didn’t mention all these extra hoops you have to jump through
You probably shouldve kept in minds that it ships with Linux so technically you can do anything that a LINUX can do. You could also install windows and solve your problem.

Most of Steam games are Windows compatible natively. Valve has partnered with Linux to create its own operating system, which is really good. You'd have to have experience with Linux and especially Linux gaming to understand the things you would have to do to be able to play every single game from your library on it. Also, it was widely known that not all games were compatible with Steam Deck, although compatibility is being improved by the day and as we speak. Just be happy that we are having the opportunity to live this stage of evolution technology-wise, or if you just wanna game without these little concerns, the Asus Rog Ally is out there.

Try it with another version of Proton, some versions are more stable than others with specific games, but at the time I made this the latest version worked just fine for me so I went with it. I have read Proton-6.5-GE-2 works well with FighterZ.
