The side by side comparison is awesome! It’s easy to see how I have been overworking my paintings and ending up with fuzzy muddy areas. This is a great video for aloof us beginners!
I have a great tip for you guys! When using watercolour, I use a clear make up organiser as a water pot. It gives me 8 wells of separated water. I allocate colour groups to different water wells, so yellows and oranges to be washed off in one water well, blues and greens in another, darks and blacks in another etc. I keep one well clear for when I want to add water. This really helps avoid the dirty brush water issue!
Thank you Kristin for explaining how easy it is to over work a painting when we starting out as a beginner. The demonstration was a very good illustration. Have a great day. Can you show us more about “glazing technique” please - many thanks 🙌💕
i think both of them look nice depending on what style you’re going for:> i personally like adding lots of detail to my art & lots of colors! i don’t think there’s necessarily a right or wrong way
For this example I thought it would be helpful to show the “right” way first so that as we painted through the one that is overworked we could reference why. Many people get frustrated with videos claiming the “wrong or right” way to do things because the wrong way looks good to them, so I wanted to start it off with the positive side. Appreciate the feedback!
Yikes...Overthinking, too many brush strokes ... I see my work in the "bad" painting. BUT, I am off to try the "good" techniques shown - thanks for the comparison!
Thank you Kristen. That was really helpful. I am very much a beginner at watercolour but I really want to improve. These tips will be a huge help.

Also my organiser is about the same size as a large water pot, so it doesn’t take up any extra space on my desk!
That was indeed helpful for this beginner. Thank you.
You nailed me over working a painting to a T! This was very helpful!!!

Amazing! I have a tendency to overwork skies.
Such a great video! I do all of these overworked things as a beginner. So hard not to control the paint! Yikes!

Very helpfull, thank you!
Oh my god I made every one of the mistakes of the 2nd picture just today !
Good demo, but for me it is more effective to start with the "bad" example first, then demo the better approach.
