Love the language those little gals use. More of a low deep chirp is what's most often heard. Sweet birds that tend to stay to themselves and avoid all the squabbling with the other birds. My boys are all rooster. Incredibly beautiful birds. One of them hasn't gone through the change as well. He's a bit of a butthole with the girls. Few days ago he flared up on me but my larger dominate boy was close by and got up in his grill and ran him off. Yes I did thank Rooty boy for having my back. Think me and Chester are going to have a come to Jesus talk here pretty soon..... Got a dozen eggs in the incubator now. First one has popped out 2 days early. Poor thing gonna be lonely for a little bit.
Hi, love the video just subscribed. I have a question about Black Copper Marans Chickens and Silkie Bantam chickens. I am torn between the 2 breeds. If I got both of the chicks at the same time will they get along? I wanted 2 Black Copper Marans Chickens and 2 silkies.
Hi, glad you're enjoying the videos :-) Yes, you should be fine with both breeds together. Especially if they're raised together at the same age . We have both together in our free range layer flock and they seem to do just fine. I'd just make sure to have 2 or more silkies so they have a buddy (silkies tend to like to dog pile to sleep instead of roost.
I bought some Marans from Tractor Supply. They are 23 weeks old and am getting real small eggs. The Blue Maran lays only deep chocolate. The Cukoo and the Black lay only real light colored ones. My New Hampshires played the same colored eggs, real light brown. Heard a lot about these birds and wanted to raise some. Now disappointed. My Rooster "Big Mouth" has beautiful coloring , the hen's , blah. In fact gave some of the hen's away . Have raised chickens for years and now ,don't know. 84 year old disappointed chicken guy. 🐻
Unfortunately, hatcheries breed for quantity and not quality. Therefore, often times, the egg color of their Marans is not the best. Try s local breeder if you can :-)
Thanks for the info! The egg color is the main reason I am incubating some marans as we speak. And I love that it is very calm on you. 🥰
I have 9 week old Black Coppers so thank you for this awesome video.
they tend to get broody
Do you sell the Black Copper Maran Fertile eggs??

Yes, they tend to have great dispositions usually. Hopefully your juvenile boy will calm down some with time.
You have tons of orbs in that barn.
Ive heard their egg called rich, can you tell taste difference?
They taste the same
