The ridiculous price and high demand is due to beliefs that cemani chicken is some kind of spiritual medium. Java people used to be Hindu, and they use it for spiritual ceremony. Today the demand for the chicken to be use in spiritual ceremony is still there but not that many because people of Java have become mostly Muslim and Christian.
Actually it is not truly related with Hinduism, before Hinduism and Buddhism in java island there is a local belief, just like Shinto that mixed with Buddhism in Japan, the local belief for Javanese people is kejawen that mixed with Hinduism
The inflation of this chicken price is beyond my imagination, 1 or 2 years ago in one of youtube channel said one chicken cemani can cost you about 5000 US$
Ayam Cemani chickens remind me of charcoal. They're practically jet black-the perfect kind of black, I would say. They seem like rare chicken species to me-probably explains their hefty price tags.
It's funny to me that I learned of these chickens at a very young age due to an old anime called Cooking Master Boy. Ironic considering these chickens aren't raised to be eaten as confirmed in the vid.
when i was still in elementary school i remember coming home and there's 5 of ayam cemani in front of my garage. i was freaked out, later i found out my grandpa bought all of them and just gave them away for one of my uncle. back then idk how expensive they were
Few years ago there are research paper in Indonesian universities that implies it have more than 5x nutrients than regular chicken which is helpful for recovery after surgeries... Other than that nothing inherently special...
Maybe I'm nuts- but these chickens are about $50 here in Eastern USA. I see them at swaps all the time, though they're snatched up very quickly. My best friend purchased a trio for $150 a couple years back.
Did you not watch the video? They already address why Cemani chickens are waaaay cheaper in USA. Its because they are not pure breeds compared to Indonesian ones.
@@helsinki they aren't purebreed in Indonesia. There is no certificate. and purebreed is not always desirable. There is a white horse breed in California. YOu can't have a pure breed, because if you do, it dies. For this breed to survive, it needs to breed with a non-white horse.
I looked up prices in Germany. They had chicken for 30€. Might not be the best breeding stock but they were all black. The prices called in this video are absolutely ridiculous. Someone is getting scammed.
I have some Ayam Cemani, but they're sensitive to the cold winters in my area so the Svarthöna are more valuable to my flock quality. Was very exciting to find a quality hatchery.
I cant believe how expensive these blck chickens. I remember my uncle serve these to us as finger food for drinking. He butchered like 5 of these like nothing here in Philippines
within the first 30 seconds i hear _you hold onto them like gold_ and i'm 💀bc the only reason ik abt these birds is bc of uncle ben and urban rescue ranch so damnnnn ig you really can just find every kind of animal in texas ^^; he had a smol flock of them and slowly sold them to raise money for the rescue iirc!
Cute.... I love and want to have them. We in our house we also have lots of chicken. We produce them for their eggs and for their chicks to get many coz we sell them.but I want just one of this as Pet.
This is perfectly fine in linguistics and many languages do this, it's called a "tautology"! In this case for English, "ayam cemani" describes the kind of chicken, even though the term ayam means chicken already. Another example (that doesn't use loan words) is "tuna fish", where tuna is already a type of fish, so the term is repetitive.
In India also, we have this breed of chicken, locally known as "Kadaknath". Their origin lies in the Jhabua district of Madhya Pradesh province and nearby Chattisgarh province. MS Dhoni, the ex-Indian cricketing legend does farming of this breed of chicken only. Regarding the pricing in Gaya, Bihar it costed me INR 900 per kg alive, and if you talk about the meat only then it reached approx INR 1200 per kg. I have tasted it, along with 5-6 other of my family members and as per all of our opinions, it was't that much great in the taste. The local desi chicken and farm chickens of India tastes much better than Kadaknath.
no you don't have it in india,... like tiger, sumatran tiger are different with bengals tiger. bengal tiger is bigger, learner, and brighter. while sumatran tiger is smaller, bulkier, and darker. the chicken you have there are not as black as cemani chicken.
India and Indonesia especially Java have some similarity animals but still have a different. For example Peacock, India have blue peacock and Indonesia Java have green peacock.
I can tell it's Indonesia simply from the title since ayam is actually chicken in both Indonesian and Malay while Cemani is native to Java Island. Ayam means Chicken, Cock, Rooster, Hen, Biddy, Chick, Capon, or whatever name you had in English for the animal. If you need to be specific, just attach an explanatory term to it. By the way, Ayam Cemani Chicken is kind of redundant, and the direct translation to English would be "Cemani Chicken Chicken."
I know someone who has a cemani rooster, even though his hens are other breeds the melanism genes are so strong that all chicks born from that rooster have purple or black skin and mostly or entirely black feathers!
A javanese friend of mine also told me about the usage of that chicken on local witchcraft ritual and protection from witchcraft attack like voodoo. Another reason why it's expensive 😅
Many Indonesians (particularly javanese people) still believe in superstitions, that's make the Cemani chicken being over-priced... Without that, that would be another chiken in the barn...

Black chickens in New Jersey that’s so dope. Good for her much love from Nyc!
It is very absurd
“Ayam Cemani Chicken..” Ayam already stands for Chicken in Malay/Indonesia Language

I would keep those. I love that color.
when i was still in elementary school i remember coming home and there's 5 of ayam cemani in front of my garage. i was freaked out, later i found out my grandpa bought all of them and just gave them away for one of my uncle. back then idk how expensive they were

India the same breed costs less than 10 dollars 🙂
You can just shorten the name to cemani chicken, cause the word "ayam' already means chicken. So the title is like saying: chicken cemani chicken~
4:20 wait where does 2k make me a millionaire? gotta try that out xD
They look so tame, happy and friendly.

In Chinese would be Ayam Cemani Gai.
crewet lu njeng
Furthermore the “c” should be pronounced “ch” as in chicken

Please clear this and then i will reply.
RUclips keep pushing this in my recommendation, so I'm gonna say it; saying ayam cemani chicken is like saying chai tea.
I know someone who has a cemani rooster, even though his hens are other breeds the melanism genes are so strong that all chicks born from that rooster have purple or black skin and mostly or entirely black feathers!
You forgot that it’s not just the tongue and black that’s black. Their organs and meat are black as well.
😮

A javanese friend of mine also told me about the usage of that chicken on local witchcraft ritual and protection from witchcraft attack like voodoo. Another reason why it's expensive 😅

Many Indonesians (particularly javanese people) still believe in superstitions, that's make the Cemani chicken being over-priced... Without that, that would be another chiken in the barn...
