    In this video I explain how to ride a streetcar in Toronto. I go over how to find a stop, paying for the streetcar and how to get off. The transit system is referred to as the TTC - Toronto Transit Commission. You can check out their site for current fares and disruptions: www.ttc.ca

    Will be travelling to Toronto next week. Useful info. Instead of Presto card, can we tap with our credit or debit card now?

      You currently can’t use your credit card to tap. But it was something they were hoping to have in place this summer.

    Thanks for the video. When doing transfers with a ticket, can I transfer to different streetcars or subways as long as I’m within the 2-hour window? Even riding in opposite direction, i.e. return trip, is also allowed?

      No. Only getting on. You do get a 2 hour transfer so tap each time you board a new bus, streetcar or subway. You won’t be charged again until your 2 hours expire.

    I see button on the door outside, what are those for? On a non busy? Or non intersection stops driver doesn’t auto open all the doors? Is that what those buttons on the doors are for? To open the door to enter? Oh and to exit, push button to open door too?

      The doors will open at the stop. But sometimes they will close but the streetcar will be waiting for a red light. You can push that button to reopen the doors.

    Some people say this, TTC streetcars are quiet, they have no horns just chimes, is this correct?

      The old streetcars were quieter. These new streetcars definitely have horns. I live beside a streetcar stop and they are constantly blowing their horns at cars that aren't stopping. It's just a really loud constant sound - think a ship blowing it's horn.

    does presto card monthly pass provides unlimited travel within toronto?

      Within Presto you can buy a TTC monthly pass for unlimited travel within Toronto. But Presto itself doesn’t have monthly passes. They oversee multiple transit systems. However the TTC monthly pass is very expensive and not always worth it.

      @@VisitTorontoVideos, the TTC Metropass is really only good if you're a visitor who's arriving in Toronto on the first day of the month, and will be staying for a week or two (the Metropass can be purchased up to the 14th of the month, IIRC.)

      It only accepts coins I think. They don’t always work. Alternatively you can use your tap credit card to pay, but each person needs a card. You would tap your credit card where you tap the Presto card.

      Nothing does, but if you get caught by a fare inspector you would get a $425 fine

      You don’t talk to anyone at the subway. You just go through a gate.

      @@reev9759, yes, the streetcars are like that, but as said above, if you enter without paying and a fare inspector does come onboard to check for fares and you haven't paid yours, you can be fined.

      Unlikely that you'll get caught, but it did happen to me. I think the fine was about $200 after they went easy one me .. I said I was a poor student etc. There are certain spots where they linger and try to catch you though. Getting off the streetcar at Spadina used to be one of them, but I haven't seen them there in years.

      If you can lift the walker the second door has a ramp that the driver will put out for you.

    How do you get on with a stroller

      It is fairly low to the ground. Most people just lift up the stroller. However, if you don't feel that is an option, there is a ramp used for wheelchairs.

      @@VisitTorontoVideos, the ramp is only extended for handicapped passengers; anybody else has to lift the stroller onto the streetcar. It's not that hard to do.

      No. It is a flat fare. But you do have 2 hours to go on and off the TTC from the first tap.

      No, unfortunately they stop around 1:30am and start up around 6am, later on Sundays. Best to map your route on a map app

      @@VisitTorontoVideos, most of them are 24/7-it's just the subway that isn't 24/7 (it shuts down at 1:40 AM for cleaning and maintainence.)

      The 301, 304, 310 and 312 run late night in place of the 501, 504, 510 and 512.

      Nope, some special routes called blue night routes runs only in the midnight and later, but it's only for busses

      @@Humulator, neither you or Delta Martin is right, the TTC isn't perfect and has problems like most transit systems, but it isn't an unreliable system.

      You have to tap for yourself and your friend has to tap separately. Each person needs to be on their own card.

      There are enforcement officers on the streetcars that will ticket you. They come on and off the streetcars checking for fares.

    I live in toronto and HATE these slow contraptions - you don't mention that it's impossible to ask the driver directions because he or she is in an enclosed cab making communication impossible. Yet another way the TTC is totally dysfunctional...

      Also there’s maps all over the streetcars, almost all of them drive in pretty much a straight line, and there’s dozens of transit apps you can use to get around. So if you can’t figure out where you’re going that’s really just a you problem.

    You missed the most important part. The first thing you should have mentioned is what a Presto card is and how to get one. And other possible ways of payment and how to go about doing it. I've never been to Toronto and have no idea how to pay for the ride after watching this video. There's no need to explain that the door is for entering and seats are for sitting and the floor is for standing which is essentially what half the video is about. This video was like this episode of Curb your Enthusiasm....
