    My issue with a system like this is what construction options are there to completely lock down the room. Having the room construction bottom out but not the speakers doesn't mean it's better. Even in my theater, using two 18" sonosubs, door knobs and other small areas of the room will make sound when the low end kicks in. A room with this much muscle will have no choice but to distract from the presentation with a physical earthquake effect on the room itself.

    • @therealshanelee
      @therealshanelee  Год назад +2

      I don’t think you quite understand the pressure all 21 subs are producing. You’d have to have an empty concrete bunker for it to not have anything interact with the pressure levels. This isn’t just a spare room with door knobs and furniture. Everything is securely bolted down. It literally takes an earthquake to move it as you said. And normal folks wouldn’t be listening at these demo levels.

    You can get rid of the visible seams if you spend enough time getting the panels perfect. Also you can adjust the brightness on the two rows of LEDs that are connecting and that helps.
    Most importantly, on a high end install you need to spend hours and hours getting every panel perfect. It can be done.

    Hi Shane. Unbelievable. Thank you man. Should be said that a excellent bass performance/response, tactile feel etc is possible only if you have RT60 (T-30) around 200ms especially on bass frequencies. Without it you aren't able to experience excellent bass. Question is if it can be done only with plethora sub units with vast dsp (all around you) or you need pressure bass traps. Especially with so much SPL. Any thoughts?

    Before some wrong sound was even a thing and we were still on a 2.0 life... I would collect speakers and I would overload my receivers. These digital receivers today can't handle all of the speakers that I would put on the old receivers of yesterday. I didn't know anything about impedence, ohms and resistance back then. But when he says how he didn't think it would benefit that much to have speakers above.... Oh the best room in the future will be a high resolution room where there is Transducers every square foot like a large LED screen. The room itself will be a screen of speakers. So that when something is moving across the room with the panels that they are using now with the micro LED you can fit micro drivers... And you could digitally have 256 zones.
    Imagine the sound of a bullet ricochet... And it bounces left and right as if you are in the tunnel.

    Perhaps the ultimate system in the future will have what I call "triangular audio" that would deliver the optimum audio experience to each listener discretely in the same room. The total seating would have to be small say 7-10 people and would be VERY expensive. But to Shane's point about things working better or worse depending on where he was seated, this would virtually eliminate this shortcoming.

    Pattern control over a particular frequency range requires multiple drivers for that range. High frequencies are controlled often by phase plugs, but as the frequency drops, so does the efficacy of a physical boundary to control the path of each frequency range. The claim of mids being “directed right at you” or however it was worded, is a stretch, at best, and impossible with one driver per section as you get down below 1KHZ. Well, it’s a curve, so no cutoff, just gradual reduction in benefits. But with multiple drivers you can manipulate directional patterns with spacing, eq, and delay, to create a pattern which at least partially sums the desired range, instead of using boundaries to “force” sound into a pattern, which creates artifacts and resonances counter productive to the desired outcome. I think. At my house, I can create sub-bass cancellation up to -12 dbC, taking 100dbC down to 88 dbC, from 100hz down, while also creating a tighter, more focused bass response. Carefully selected traps and absorption materials and angles have made that same concert level SPL to barely noticeable in the next room, most notably the generally unstoppable bass is seemingly gone. Waveguides and arrays both have compromises. Arrays tend to have a harder time retaining the 12-16khz range, while waveguides create phasing issues as the listener crosses the intersection of the opposing drivers pattern, and unless art noise all around. Arrays win, even in small format.

    The cone "area" is not 80 inches. It is 5,026 sq inches, or 34.9 sq ft..... or, more than the area of fifteen 18" subwoofers. Looks kind of low budget though. Should have been carbon fiber, with a foam surround.

      I think side mounting them could work, then only the sub depth spans the width of the vehicle, the sub diameter then spans the height and length of the vehicle, but you may need something taller like a commercial shipping box trailer for a semi truck. 2 of these subs, with enough power, could easily overshadow the noise of a diesel engine. The era of industrial level bass! lol

Looking at sd one 50" equals around 8 18" but jtrs are ported which gives enormous advantage above tuning frequency and makes up with less of them unless you want to have higher spl above 40hz or below 8.

    Honestly I think you would get a far more accurate sound signature and transient response from the 18’s mentioned. Though it would be interesting to put that woofer In a fancy high order enclosure but it would take up a preposterous amount of space like a small building worth.

    Who informed the guy at the beginning that a subwoofers size is calculated by the box and not the size of the driver itself?. He claimed that the 80in subwoofer could be called a 100in subwoofer because the box is 100in. FALSE. A subwoofers size is only determined by 1 thing. The size of the driver. The surrounds.

    • @therealshanelee
      @therealshanelee  Год назад

      He doesn't say the BOX is 100". He says the Frame is 100" which would be the basket or part that gets screwed to the Box. Some manufacturers count that as the driver size rather than the Cone area which he counts as being 80".
