This pilot is better than most shows with full seasons of episodes today. Someone dropped the ball. In 98' ,I'd be glued to the TV watching this show. Kirk had some acting chops, too. AND the cast???? What?? Pretty solid to me. What could've been. 👍🏽💯
I disagree, depending on the type of shows you are talking about, this would be true if you are talking about “sitcoms”, but most shows today tend to not be along those lines. However, many of them have really good pilots, they tend to lean towards dramas and action now.

During this time, ALL of the Black TV shows were getting cancelled. There was a "writers strike," and the NAACP had to step in. UPN the WB dissolved and we got the CW. THE Game and Tyra Banks shows survived barely from UPN. WB had the Wayans and Sister Sister.
I never knew Kirk Franklin did a pilot for a tv show. He was the man in the 90's and I loved his music then. My boyfriend at the time was jealous of Kirk Franklin because I was crazy about Kirk 😂❤

WOW!! This was around the same time that we were filming THE STEVE HARVEY SHOW I bet. I played CLYDE THE SLIDE of The Hightops on the show. This would have been a great addition to the black sitcoms roster.
This is a combination of Amen and the Steve Harvey Show….with a sprinkle of Different Strokes. Would have been a cool show. Thursday, Friday, Saturday night have never been the same! 😭 We need these kind of shows back now! The 80’s and 90’s were the best times for sitcoms, movies, and music. 💪
The Kirk Franklin Show should have been picked up by UPN and could have aired on Monday Nights despite the fact that it was pitched to ABC but UPN was a better fit mainly due to the black sitcoms.
Just like Warner Bros.' Built to Last should have been picked up by UPN after NBC dropped that show. Imagine Warner Bros.' Built to Last airing after Universal's The Kirk Franklin Show on UPN.
