I had a weimaraner named Eli for 11 wounded years. Yes, he could be a handful at times, but he was my best friend. I got sick in my early 30's. I was losing time. Turned out I had Epilepsy. Gradually, I began to have grand mal seizures. Eli knew before I was going to have one,so he would jump up on me and make me sit down. He never failed me. When I would wake up, Eli would be laying beside me just watching me. He took great care of me. I lost him to bone cancer when he was 11 . That was one of the greatest losses of my life. I think of him every day, and he's been gone for 7 years. I have another dog and she's great. I didn't get another weimaraner because I already had the best.
+laura lafleur My heart breaks for you - my Weimy turned 10 over 6 months ago. He's the BEST dog I've ever, ever, ever had. I couldn't ask for a better friend. He instinctively knows when I need him - he's always there for me. I DO hope you'll be brave and get another Weimy - there are so many who need GOOD, loving, healthy and happy homes. It sounds like you would give one/them everything he/they needs! - and remember, you'd get back SO MUCH MORE! ♥
I laid my Weimaraner babydoll to rest last week. She was my daughter and the single greatest joy Iv ever had in a dog. The love I have for this breed is entirely based around the love and personality that was her❤️
I remember the Wegman dogs on sesame street as a kid and always found those skits the most memorable and interesting. I was always transfixed on how he got the dogs in those tall outfits. They were so cool and really cemented my love for this breed and the artist aswell. :D His art is just so charming.
Yeah, their anxiety comes from their wanting to protect their owner (they feel afraid when they can't see their owner). The trick is to train them from an early age at separation. Start with just 3 minutes, go out, take a short walk, come back, and give then no attention when you enter the house. Then do it, but a bit longer each time. This will give them the confidence that nothing happens when you leave. This training works on most dogs!
Had my 1st Weimaraner Lucy from a pup until she was 12 lovely dog missed her so much. Now have a 4yr old Weimaraner Daisy rescued her when she was 2yrs old, very intelligent dogs. Like any dog you need to have the time and patience to train them and they make great family dogs.
I've had five Weimeraners, three currently, and I disagree with the high energy. My dogs feed off the energy in the house. If we're low key, they're low key. If we're excited, they're excited. Mine love to be walked but also love to spend a day sitting on the couch, which is more likely to happen. All three do have separation issues, we keep them in crates when we're gone because they've taken to eating toilet paper. Also all three are very allergic and need specialized diets. They're great pets
Have had several, everyone was a great friend. Each had a different personality but the common denominator was the love they had for me and my family. I have two now and are 13 and 12 so the will not last long and will leave a big void in our lives when they pass. They are the smartes dogs and are devoted to their family.
Aww, my godmom had weimaraners and loooooved them dearly. They were always so patient with me as a small kid. She fell in the middle of the night and passed away, and her husband found her the next day. But I think of her every time I see one of these sweet dogs.
10 years ago this coming summer will mark 10 years when our Weimaraner Jack Frost was hit by a car on the highway where we lived at the time. He was about 8-9 months old at the time. The hit didnt kill him but did damage to his back. After leaving him with the vet for a few days, we decided to put him on meds and nurse him back to health. For a few weeks we used a sling to help him lift his back legs. Within a few months he was his old hyper self and I'm proud to say 10 years later he is still with us. Sure he's a handful sometimes. Crying when he wants something, growling when he wants privacy, or barking excessively but its all worth it. Sure he struggles slightly with age such as having some difficulty climbing in or on something but not much. He's still an energetic little fella. Love you Jack.
My dog Benjamin is half weimaraner and half chocolate lab. He looks exactly like a weimaraner with amber eyes but his coat is chocolate. He is the goofiest sweetest boy ever. best dog ever 😊
YES! So true. We adopted our Weim from a couple who just could not handle the separation anxiety and the destruction that came along with it. If you are a first time dog owner this isprobably not a good choice as a first dog, they can be a hand full and need plenty of exercise especially if you live in an apartment. Luckily we have come a long way in getting her anxiety under control. She can now be left alone and not completely freak out and destroy everything in sight.
Sure they're cute, intelligent, loyal and great company. But just remember, this animal is a working beast, bred to hunt big game. I run mine for 50 miles a week and have a 2:50 marathon pb. Even at aged 8.5 he is able to maintain that kind of pace for up to 15+ miles. In terms of endurance, he can go for about 6 to 8 hours cross-country (i.e. 30 miles in mountainous terrain) before collapsing. For this dog to be ever contented it needs to be exhausted. So be honest with yourself before getting one.
I have 3 wonderful Weimaraners that I got thru rescue.. Noobs have no idea what their getting into, they think beautiful dog, smart, I want one. If this breed doesn't get enough exercise it will drive you crazy as it finds ways to entertain itself. I wouldn't trade mine for the world, their just the greatest dogs ever
I love my Weimaraner. He is my big baby!! He acts sooo much like a human, that's how smart he is. He came from a breeder with champion lines up in Canada. He's a absolutely beautiful two year old. But still not snipped yet... Breeder said not to. He is valuable I guess, it doesn't matter to me tho. I love him either way. :)
I KNOW!!! Ours was a COUCH POTATO!! She'd cry to go out but then if it was too cold or too hot or too snowy or too rainy or too boring she'd cry to come back in! She preferred a nice cuppa decaf tea and a Stella D'Oro Annisette Toast to any silly athletic activities! She lived to 11 yrs and 21 days and we still miss her every day since she had to leave...
We grew up with a Father n Son. Very smart dogs. The father chewed his way up to the living room from the basement, just so he could watch the house. Never a problem after that.
These dogs are gorgeous! Hehe, I'm doing a project on William Wegman for my art appreciation class. I had no clue who he was at first, but I'm sure glad I chose him now. I was like, "Oh! It's that guy! Sweet!" lol
I got a big one named Tucker he's from Arkansas, a rescue, full tail and a big attitude. He is by no means energetic unless a friend of ours comes over he goes nuts whenever our friend comes by. Even though he's 5 years old he thinks he's a lap dog, and he tries to use me like a pillow more than half the time, laying right on top of me so I call him my little lung collapser. He is good boy.
We have a weimaraner 9+ months old now. Viewed this video many times in our research phase of dog ownership. She is a great dog/pup. No complaints-we got her at 9 wks old and she has been living in a apartment setting with a large yard since then. The apartment is not urban but rather close to a small city with tonnes of open spaces/lakes /rivers/trails and bush minutes from the door. She is a great pet. She was very easily house trained (maybe 2-3 accidents since day 1) See next post---
I love my weimaraner he just turned 2, I know I'm biased but he is awesome, he is really quick with learning tricks, nice to my cats, really cuddly :) People always stop me and say "what a beautiful dog - is that a weema. wimar wama something" and I'm such an ass I always let them struggle through the word lol
They are prone to separation anxiety. I had to babysit for our neighbor's because their boy Coach would eat the furniture. Even with me, he was very stressed out. But he was such a great boy (except when he peed on people).
I had one who only lived to 10, Kayla Beans. She was hysterical, we were sure she was Lucille Ball re-incarnate. She was a bad ass but I loved her and I was devastated by her sudden death. I have a rescue pit now, he's an angel.
thatS TOTALLY TRUE! I have one, well my sister does, but she lives here with her dog , his name is FLOQUET! And he's 3 years old, and what you said is true! they are totally dependable of their owners, you cant leave them alone, they enjoy and loves company, and they feel part of the family has a family member, and shows their emotions, if its hungry, happy, angry, floquet doesnt like to eat alone, he wants to eat around people, so weims needs time!! care and lots, lots of love!!!
I wish my Harley had lived that long. Lost him last year at around 11. We rescued him when he was around 1 and him 10 years. He was the Best dog. We didn't hunt with him, but he was a natural hunter all the time. Chasing squirrels and catching them often. I miss him everyday. Hope we can someday have another.
@@ftlod9324 I've SEEN what is supposedly "normal" sized Weimaraners. They look tiny in comparison. I wonder if breeders have just been making them bigger over the years?
ANY dog looks terrible fat. 😔 Shame on the owners allowing them to get that way. Animal cruelty over feeding them. Pressure on their internal organs and skeletal system 🤬😔
I feel it should also be said that Weimeraners can be prone so severe separation anxiety. My cousins owned one and she HAD to be with family at all times, so she went with them on family trips. Very sociable and loving, but if anyone here plans on getting one, be prepared to give them LOTS of attention.
We have 4 now - I would highly recommend getting at least 2. They are so much happier with company! But - no cats, bunnies, ferrets or other smalls. They will eventually snap and hurt/kill them. Not on purpose generally, just playing. They are size stupid, but the best dogs EVER. We will never have another breed.
pretty much the most intelligent breed i have ever had the pleasure of owning...when i was young, blue would nudge me towards the pavement instead of the road, and run along side me, austin pushed a chair against the kitchen worktop, got on the worktop, lifted ceramic biscuit tin lid off, ate every biscuit including foil, except for one, to leave mum when she got back, and put the ceramic tin on the floor....NOTHING was broken, unfortunately they became extremely ill and i now have my GSP Oakley
I had a Weimaraner just over ten years ago and they are smart dogs, and good too ! The only thing is that they don't live to long, and I believe their life expectancy is seven years and that is way to short............... !
Whenever I miss the bus, I walk to school, which is mostly everyday, I always see this beautiful Weimaraner. My mind is like, "omagod I want to pet you" but my body is like, "I mustn't pet a dog without permission and I shouldn't even ask anyway"
I love my weimaraner tobie , my weimaraner is so wild and spoiled by me . However , i trained him to sit and lay down by gving him cookies and being consistent , the only thing he can't do is give me the ball when i ask him but im training him .
My Weimaraner, Gerald Ford is the best and smartest dog in the world! I honestly don't know what I'd do without him. He is like a human being......Ooops! Sometimes he's better than a human being!
Weimaraners often have something with the nerves, it has been breed in to them so they are more alert and better guard dogs but it can cause problems. My Weimaraner gets panic attacks from high noises sometimes.
The same has been done to dobbermans but they are more likey to go in attack mode instead. Weimaraners are more conflict shy and very peacefull dogs, my dog has never showed agression towards other dogs, she just ignores if other dogs shows agression. They are good family dogs and also good hunting dogs, they run very fast.
Christian Thomsen they certainly look that way. some of them looked like they were horrified do anything wrong or out of turn. They look like a sudden fart could startle them.
Its mostly thunder weather and fireworks thats trigger my dogs panic attack and if she suddenly gets scared by something she flees. When she was young it was not a problem with high noises it came when she became around 6 years. When she was young she got little nervous about everything new and barked at it often. But they are fantastic dogs anyway, very intelligent dogs.
I barely lasted 5 months after losing my beautiful darling. His girlfriend was so sad, so I found her the best friend I have now. They are a gift from God, to say the very least. ❤️ 💙 💜
Sorry, Stavros, while I agree it is important to save a shelter dog, for those that must have a Weimaraner I would rather suggest you get one from a Weim Rescue organization with a good reputation. But that said, please don't slam & condemn all breeders. The puppy mill people are the heartless ones but the breeders genuinely care where their puppies go and are very careful people. Ours came from an honest and loving breeder. I would get another from them any day.
My uncle and I bought my parents a puppy Weimaraner for Christmas. We went to pick up the puppy from the breeder and one turned to two and two turned to three. So there we were with three Weimaraner puppy sisters to help open presents Christmas morning. Now my parents have one sister, my uncle has one sister, and I have one sister. Reunions will be crazy.
I'm going to get one next year. I'll be living in a apartment(but only for about 3-4 years), but it isn't that small, and I live next to the beach. I'm going to take three walks each day, about one hour. Do you think that is enough? Sorry my bad english, I'm from Brazil :)
I recently got mine, is nearly 2months old, and it is an energy ball! I hope to go out and exercise with her. As for now, she's just getting used to the leash. She sleeps well inside at night, though.
True. Asthma and other health issues abound in my family, so I'm not able to keep up with species that are so athletic. I currently have 3 dogs, two puppies and their mother. when I picked one out of the litter, I was hopping that the one would grow up to be laid back and calm, and the one my parents picked would be playful and energetic to keep them active in their old age/sickness..however their personalities were swapped. xD I love my dog, but she's so rambunctious I can't take her anywhere for several years till I get a house with a yard-meanwhile the pup that dad has just lays about, rough houses with my dog, and barks at oncoming cars. you can't tell what sort of personality a dog will have until later on in their development, but once you chose your pet, you can't go back. they're like family to me, and I love them to death. :3
If you have a short leash and a little time and a bike, you can train the dog to pull you while you're on the bike, that's how my Doberman gets exercise and it leaves them tired when you get back depending on how long you go but that's one way if you don't have a very active lifestyle
My husband did the bike riding with our Weimy on a leash. Harley loved it. Great exercise for both! We also took him to our off leash park, wooded trails for long walks/runs. Keep them exercised and they are mellow at home. Find a park where they can be off leash. Miss him everyday.
Probably the most elegant breed out there. These dogs just exude class and style. Just be prepared to take out a loan if you're buying one from a professional breeder.
@LsuTool yes it does and it is disappointing i personally prefer German shepherds but my friend has bought a Weimaraner and so i was intrested in this part of the program :)
He also did a music video in the 80's with these dogs with the new wave group "New Order". I believe he also released a book with all his doggy photos. I think Faye Raye was in it and another named "Batty".
I had a weimaraner named Eli for 11 wounded years. Yes, he could be a handful at times, but he was my best friend. I got sick in my early 30's. I was losing time. Turned out I had Epilepsy. Laura, I hear what you are saying, and I dread the time when I will lose my wonderful pal who cares for me more than any human. :)

Such a blessing in my life
Our two cats have been gone 15 years + and I think of them every day.
The love I receive from my Weimaraner when I first walk in my door is unmatched... they’re definitely one of the most affectionate breed out there.
I laid my Weimaraner babydoll to rest last week. She was my daughter and the single greatest joy Iv ever had in a dog. The love I have for this breed is entirely based around the love and personality that was her❤️
My favorite Weimy belongs to my friend Frank. Lilah. Sweetest dog ever!😊

Getting a wiem was the vest thing I have ever done. He is so loving and the sweetest dog ever!
Yeah, their anxiety comes from their wanting to protect their owner (they feel afraid when they can't see their owner). The trick is to train them from an early age at separation. I think that would work for pugs. They’re so sociable, they can’t live with out people or dogs 😭
I have a weim named Baloo and he's honestly the best dog I've ever had. They're truly the breed you never knew you needed
I welcomed this information! Thank you for this wonderful MOMENT with these beautiful and loving beings!🐾💝

Yep you're bang on.
100% agree 👍😀🐶🐶🐶💛💛
Have had several, everyone was a great friend. Each had a different personality but the common denominator was the love they had for me and my family. I have two now and are 13 and 12 so the will not last long and will leave a big void in our lives when they pass. They are the smartes dogs and are devoted to their family.
Enjoy them(they so special / intelligence)- miss my weimies 😢
Aww, my godmom had weimaraners and loooooved them dearly. They were always so patient with me as a small kid. She fell in the middle of the night and passed away, and her husband found her the next day. But I think of her every time I see one of these sweet dogs.
I had a weimaraner named Sugar and she was the smartest dog I have ever met. weimaraner's are the most lovable dogs
I've got three of these dogs in my home. I can tell you it's never boring with them around.
I Love My Girls.
My pup is a Weimaraner/Brit. Spaniel mix but looks like one of the darker gray/blue weims. I love him! He's so darned smart!
My boyfriend has a Weimaraner and I LOVE it when she tries to understand what you're saying. :)
My dog Benjamin is half weimaraner and half chocolate lab. He looks exactly like a weimaraner with amber eyes but his coat is chocolate. He is the goofiest sweetest boy ever. best dog ever 😊
I have the same mix :) they're such awesome dogs

I love my Daisy dog ♥ Weimaraners are the sweets, and she acts like a human! Shes spoiled hehe but she never does anything bad!
Sure they're cute, intelligent, loyal and great company. But just remember, this animal is a working beast, bred to hunt big game.

Yeah pugs are great...
:)
They are awesome athletes.
Our first family dog is a Weimaraner black Labrador mix. He’s big lovable, and he LOVES to run.
They are the sweetest dogs ever to live.

We had one and he lived only 7.5 years. We were devastated, we were so attached to him. It has been 5 years and we're still talking about him.
Beautiful, tall, friendly dogs that are full of energy.

i had a couple Wegman books when i was a kid and i LOVED them
My Weimaraner Ava saved my life. She is 9 years old and still crazy but I love her. I'm planning on getting another male Weim puppy soon.
I had one that lived for about 16 years old.
Sean Zappulla Same. Her 16th birthday was April 4 and she died in late March. :(
My Weimaraner is right now 9 and I hope he lives that long I wouldn't be able to stand to lose my best friend

My Aidan lived to 16 as well. An absolute beauty

beautiful dogs through out, i have two !!!
Weimaraners seem like such social dogs.Attached to owners like glue.
What's the difference between the Weimaraner, shorthair pointers, viszla , and Dalmatian? They all seem to have the same traits
Almost similar but weimaraners are a bit more intelligent ,bigger and generally bond with one person in the family exclusively.
Weimaraners are more intelligent by far.

I have a Weimaraner a young female, and I completely agree with everything included the comments above!

Yes it is.

pretty much the most intelligent breed i have ever had the pleasure of owning...when i was young, blue would nudge me towards the pavement instead of the road, and run along side me, austin pushed a chair against the kitchen worktop, got on the worktop, lifted ceramic biscuit tin lid off, ate every biscuit including foil, except for one, to leave mum when she got back, and put the ceramic tin on the floor....NOTHING was broken, unfortunately they became extremely ill and i now have my GSP Oakley
I just love their eyes. So pretty! :o
If I had weim, I'll name it Sherlock
pronounced "vy-ma-raner"
one ra too much ^^
But yeah you're right
joni ha rararaner lol
No that doesn't sound right
Think German.
Wanda, hahahah YES!

..it's the same with my weimaraner girl, RIP ( Isa of the goulden ground ) ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️🌍
I also have a Weimaraner he's adorable
Good doggos.
If I had a Weimaraner, I'd name him Wegman.
Leananshae or "Wag"man.
Leananshae or eggman
Leananshae when my wiemeraner dies I will get another one and name him that
Weimaraners often have something with the nerves, it has been breed in to them so they are more alert and better guard dogs but it can cause problems.
My Weimaraner gets panic attacks from high noises sometimes.
Christian Thomsen interesting!
Christian Thomsen
they certainly look that way. some of them looked like they were horrified do anything wrong or out of turn.
The best..nice 👌
Awesome show bro.
on of the best breed for me :)
Were getting one friday!
Incredible !
I recently got mine, is nearly 2months old, and it is an energy ball! I hope to go out and exercise with her. As for now, she's just getting used to the leash. She sleeps well inside at night, though.
@Assassin0fwar I'm not really sure. I had German Shepherds but they never swole. Have you taken it to the vet? I think that would be the best option.
they look so soft!!!!! i want one
I remember watching Wegman's shorts on Sesame Street when I was a kid. beautiful breed, but I'm not able to keep up with such energy. >w
That is wise of you to know that you may not be able to keep up with such and athletic dog.
True. Asthma and other health issues abound in my family, so I'm not able to keep up with species that are so athletic. I currently have 3 dogs, two puppies and their mother.
when I picked one out of the litter, I was hopping that the one would grow up to be laid back and calm, and the one my parents picked would be playful and energetic to keep them active in their old age/sickness..however their personalities were swapped. xD
I love my dog, but she's so rambunctious I can't take her anywhere for several years till I get a house with a yard-meanwhile the pup that dad has just lays about, rough houses with my dog, and barks at oncoming cars.
you can't tell what sort of personality a dog will have until later on in their development, but once you chose your pet, you can't go back. they're like family to me, and I love them to death.
Just be prepared to take out a loan if you're buying one from a professional breeder.
best dogs ever!!!
@LsuTool yes it does and it is disappointing i personally prefer German shepherds but my friend has bought a Weimaraner and so i was intrested in this part of the program :)
@LsuTool the smartest is the boder collie ...
They are so bright, but gosh the have energy !!!
He also did a music video in the 80's with these dogs with the new wave group "New Order". I believe he also released a book with all his doggy photos. I think Faye Raye was in it and another named "Batty".
