    I live a few towns over and am in Cloquet very frequently. And, of course I'm always admiring that historic station.

      I’d driven by it a couple times on the way to gordys but this was my first time stopping and I’m glad I did. Such a cool and unique piece of history

    I am a carpenter and always was amazed about Falling Water as well . I read he was an " Autodidact " meaning self taught . . Followed his own rules . He was a genius

    An absolutely beautiful structure! To be sure it is an actual Frank Lloyd Wright creation, I would need to examine it closely for signs of roof leaks.

    Very cool! Do you plan to walk the Duluth Skywalk at all?

      I hadn’t, but I’ve added it to my list. Hopefully going back to Duluth this fall or winter

      Glad I could recommend it!
      A good place to start would be at the Holiday Center. It is centrally located in the middle of the skywalk providing access to most parts of the skywalk system. There is a nice parking garage at the Holiday Center also. That’s where I always start when I walk there

      Just one more thing, the skywalk is only open on weekdays unless there is an event going on so make sure to plan for that.

    The F.L. WRIGHT graphics are kind of tacky IMHO.

      I don’t feel they add to the design either

      @@walkingminnesota As if they would have to point out that this structure that looks so completely unlike anything else of its type is designed by a famous architect.

    Who had the money to pay him to design this? It's just a gas station!

    • @walkingminnesota
      @walkingminnesota  3 месяца назад +1

      He designed this about 20 years before construction started but it was built for Ray Lindholm. He was designing a house for Lindholm in Cloquet and he found out that Lindholm was in the oil business so he pitched him on this gas station idea he had decades earlier. The house he designed is called Mäntylä and that’s been moved out of Minnesota now but the gas station remains.
      He had this whole concept called “broadacre city” where he felt each family should have a one acre plot with a home on it and as part of that concept he designed the gas station you see in this video.
