I was just in Minneapolis/St. Paul on a vacation a couple of weeks ago and for literally no reason other than a gut feeling, I decided to include Nicollet Island as part of my itinerary. It turned out to be a show stealer as far as my entire vacation went and I'm so glad I took the stroll that I did around the island. Definitely not going to forget it anytime soon.

I live close by the high bridge but I never feel safe. I was walking by the area where you can see downtown and a guy threatened me because I looked at him since he was calling me a punk. Much better to watch through videos but I simply can’t go on a walk anymore. Too unsafe in any area.

As I've stated before, I loved living in Minneapolis. I moved there in 2013 and moved away in October of 2021, after Covid and the riots pretty much turned downtown into a ghost town. Every time I watch these videos, I miss it there. However, I live in Tampa, FL. The weather is amazing during the winter months, plus the city is growing so rapidly. The perfect scenario for me would be to live in Tampa from November to May, then live in Minneapolis from May to early November.

The question of the channel owner and Minnesotan Are the people in Minnesota really nice and friendly or just newspaper talk?

Wow, I hardly recognize anything except Cedar-Riverside, now Riverside Plaza. I was the chief Accountant For Cedar-Riverside (Keith Heller/Gloria Segal) and was on the stage when HUD Secty Romney, who was flown in by Helo due to the rioting, dedicated stage 1. Our office was the command center for the police during the riots on Cedar protesting the Vietnam War-it was an old ice cream factory before we remodeled it. It was mostly a White Hippie neighborhood. I often dined with my girlfriend (now ex-wife) at Mr. Steak, not far away. I oversaw the Cedar Village Inn, Hotzermans sp? Antiques and the Youth Center is run by a dynamic minister. I left for Touche Ross, CPAs (now Deloitte) as I recall, while Stage 1 was just completed or still under construction, I forget I did all the tax returns for Keith Heller who was a tax professor and had many clients. When the many bills and contracts for deeds were delinquent, they called me, and I may say will pay as soon as we can, and if you keep pestering me, I will put you at the bottom of the pile. Tough position for me just out of UofM with an accounting degree. We were trying to maintain buildings that were falling apart many of which would be demolished for later construction of our New-Town-Intown and $24m HUD guarantee, Fortunately McKnight's and Whitney's helped finance but it was rough and the neighborhood was in uproar when we want to tear down their quaint old buildings which were hardly worth maintaining, For Cedar Square West. The idea of mixed affordable housing was good but I thought the buildings looked terrible. I believe Ralph Rapson led the design team. I am visiting at the end of September for the Carlson School of Mgmt Alumni reunion and will try to walk around the area, but hardly anything in the video is familiar to me. Some of the old bars, but I don't drink and never went to any of the bars, just not my interest. I was sort of a nerd. A few years ago, I wanted to find the Mall on the East Bank since it still exists with some buildings I would recognize. A few years ago I drove around totally lost and no easy way to park near the mall I could find., Only the Mississippi River was recognizable and knew where it was. I am tying to research best way to get to East from West either walk or bus across that bridge that us to also carry cars as I recall, I have not been on a city bus or train since a child until took a bus from Richfield to the UofM before I moved into an apartment on the West Bank. I note the videos from the 2014 fire, but I recall a much larger one in the middle of winter along Cedar and fire truck's water created huge blocks of ice on everything. Sometime in the early 1970s I believe. I moved to Phoenix after growing up in Richfield, then to St. Louis Park and Edina and to a lake home on Sugar Lake in the Annandale area. I may drive out West and see if I can find the old place, but the roads are all different, etc. I would love to find someone who could take me to the lake, where I may recognize my old fishing spots. It may be easier to find the cottage from the lakeside! I had a big bass boat with Sonar and especially liked catching Northerns. By the way, I bought my first home in St. Louis Park for $28k-a nice 3-BR Rambler. I am now 78 and graduated from Richfield High (the largest class in MN) in 1965 and UofM in 1969. I did return 5+ years ago for a UofM Marching Band Reunion at the top of the stadium-quite a few. I wonder if they still have the female band director. I met the UofM President at the time, who seemed very nice and sharp Anyway, I tend to write a lot. I moved to Phoenix about 25 years ago to escape the snow, cold, humid summers (88F with humidity was as miserable as about 115 °F in dry-heat Phoenix), and mosquitoes. But enjoy the greenery and Minneapolis area in general so try and return every 5 years or so

Great video. Very cool to see "dedicated" bike lanes in neighborhoods with a small median barrier (not just painted lines). A number of the alternative transportation groups here in Omaha have been advocating for a similar setup, but we're not there yet. I've been enjoying your channel. Minneapolis/St. Paul is one of our favorite destinations (we were just in St. Paul in March for the NCHC Frozen Faceoff). 👍

I live in Minneapolis now but grew up a few miles down the road from Pepin in Maiden Rock. Let me know if you’d like a tour of some of the odd events that happened there in the 1970s. Also, my cousin owns the Third Base Bar in Pepin.

Thank you so much for a cycling video! Although your walking-around videos are invaluable when it comes to getting a sense for downtown, northloop, and other nearby neighborhoods, this biking video alone showcases so much new bike infrastructure that isnt even on Google Maps yet. Bryant's cycling track looks simply world-class, and is miles ahead of most similarly-sized cities in America. Furthermore, its nice to just see a video documenting the quieter parts of the city and quotidienne life. I can definitely imagine myself living car-free or car-lite in Minneapolis. Thank you!

Assuming you're using a GoPro type of camera, there's some pretty cheap chest mounts online that would work well for these types of videos
