I gotta say, I was underwhelmed. I was expecting something incredible and revolutionary. Instead, it just looks like a sped up video. Good photography, though.
I had my own music on watching this, and literally went to another world. I've never felt so happy and content. Simply beautiful, thanks for all the work that went into this. Superb!
Matthew Vandeputte Yes I got that, but you would get the same result shooting an animated sequence, stabilised and time stretched. Sorry but 'world's first hyperlapse', sounds like big words for a very basic process.
Professional time lapse and hyper lapse is done by shooting a lots of photos and compiling them not speeding up a video. Moreover, with the professional technique, you can achieve high quality video like this video is in 4K and if I'm not mistaken, it can go up to 5K or maybe 6K.
Guys, a timelapse is a series of pictures from one spot. A hyper lapse is a series of pictures while the camera is moving. Not that special, but still pretty cool.
Matthew Vandeputte I get it, I just don't GET it. Without sound like a jerk I'm wondering what the point is. If I'm not mistaken you've taken a ton of high-res photos really quickly and then you display them chronologically... which is what video is.
Brad Bisinger You have to scroll and seek the Vimeo video that Matthew Vandeputte posted. Then notice the difference. The Vimeo time-lapse claims to be 3,000 photos but it just looks like a bumpy plain ride in low quality. Now watch Matt's clip again. He and his software stabilized the HQ photos and it gave the nice smooth high quality "hyper lapse". Very cool stuff.
Shaun Mason Ok, so this is better then time lapse, but how is it better than video and whats the point? A steadi-cam could pretty much do the same thing?
it is technically hyperlapse if the camera moved inside the airplane. but that movements is very restricted if you take pictures from a standard window. So basically theres little difference between a such a hyperlapse and a simple timelapse.
I'll admit I've been impressed by hyperlapse videos that have been painstakingly assembled by a photographer who moves their gear manually with very specific distance intervals, creating an extraordinarily smooth cinematic experience. But plopping yourself in moving vehicle and snapping stills as fast as your camera will allow.....not so much, regardless of how much effort it takes in post. But hey, props to anyone furthering their own art regardless of the critics. Keep shooting!
0:55 "Sir, you need to disable all electronic devices at this time." But it's for a timelapse video on youtube? "It doesn't matter, sir. We're landing soon."
I was expecting something amazing. This looks like a regular flight. Now I know what a hyperlapse is and I'm not impressed. Timelapse is the real deal.
Astralis Lux I disagree! 😬 Hyperlapse is a kind of timelapse. The only thing which changes is, that the one who records the timelapse is moving! Into the direction of a building, around it or so. Our latest video about NYC has almost only timelapses bug the sequence were I walk on the Brooklyn Bridge is a hyperlapse... Maybe you visit us and give some feedback...
VERY NICE !!! Great job --why are some of the folks on the posts so bitter ? Curious so what compression happened to stream 4k? PS-how can you watch stuff like this and say there is no God? :)
i hate to be a technical dick, but isn't a video a collection of still frames put together to create a sequence of images? frames per second kinda thing?
I'm trying to figure how this is anything more special than just flying in a plane at sunset. I've seen similar (actually more impressive) flight-based sunsets dozens of times...
I think it says a lot about the internet that somebody would do a normal timelapse while they were moving and then try to coin a buzzword out of it. Frankly the finished edit is somewhat underwhelming.
A timelapse and a hyperlapse are different things. They use the same basic technique however the way you capture the footage is different, as is the postprocessing.
Matthew Vandeputte Ya i know, and the rusian hiperlapsers are the best, hiperlapse is a camera in a car as well and make that FAST movement effect, here just looks like normal video in a plane, and i seen videos in lower quality but with a real sunset in a plane, example the video you can find in google chicago-paris in 2 minits. i trust you was shooting as you say(i dont know how do you set the intervalometer) but looks really shotting video from the window, even the sunset you have looks like a video of the sun hiding in a few seconds in the clouds. The title give a big xpectation perhaps is the point where is quite wrong your work... with all my respect of course
4K is pointless when RUclips's frame rate is still half the speed of television and few monitors are more than 2K (1920x1080). When oh when will RUclips catch up with standard tv which has had a refresh rate of 50 and 60 Hz since the 1930's? Apart from that, good work!
Licensing for this, what a joke. It's not that special. Plus it cut off before we saw it turn darker. It would be cool to see it go all the way to complete darkness.
The clouds moving. This is a time lapse while the camera is moving. The effect is not that noticeable but it's there, check Timescapes 4K and you'll see the effect there in full glory
Paul Hanlon That vimeo link is just a camera that is stationary and taking pictures. What matthew's video is showing is movement of camera. Its extremely underwhelming but its there...
Hello, Matthew! Hope your doing fine. My name is Leslie, and I would like yo ask for your permission to use your beautiful footage for a lyric video I'm creating. Already following your channel and gave you the thumb :)
First, condescension always places you in an inferior position... even if you're right. Secondly, I made a mistake by not reading the description. I apologize for that. Good on you, for not clickbaiting. However, righteous indignation is not a great quality. Less enlightened people might be upset, but I can see that you seem like an honest hard-working person with good intentions, and after looking at the comments, I can see that you've dealt with that shit enough. So, let us move on from petty keyboard warrior arguements and realize we're contemporaries and therefore more alike than different. I'll learn quite a bit from you, so I will be subscribing. Cheers!
Hyperlapse just looks like you pointed a camera at the same location and set the framerate lower. How is this different? "Moving between each shot" is the same with a still camera and a video camera. It doesn't seem all that revolutionary; just more of a pain in the ass if you have to click the button instead of setting your camera to 1fps instead of 24fps.
I'm quite certain you realise the difference between the footage you get from a static mount on a plane and footage that tracks a certain cloud/point in the field of view over a period of time.
Matthew Vandeputte I think a simple explanation so everyone understands, because it took me a while to figure out, and still not sure. This is a moving timelapse, like the ones in the film Timescapes 4K. I bet the effect would have been more noticeable if there was a storm or high winds.
I gotta say, I was underwhelmed. I was expecting something incredible and revolutionary. Instead, it just looks like a sped up video. Good photography, though.
are you alive dude
If there is something extraordinary about this video, it isn't apparent
How does the sun go below the cloud line if it is 93 million away ? That’s what I see that proves we do not live on a spinning ball.
Wow! 4K is almost as good as VHS quality. Amazing.
What a wonderful way to wake up and start my day. You just don't know how much this meant to me today; it was a definite blessing. Thank you.
I had my own music on watching this, and literally went to another world.
I've never felt so happy and content.
Simply beautiful, thanks for all the work that went into this. Superb!
Is that a vid or a dream! Amazing work !!!
What a wonderful set of pictures of Yosemite. I've been there but never imagined I'd see it in such a different and wonderful way. Thank you.
simply breathtaking
Almost scary, it's so beautiful!
Gorgeous and heart breakingly precious.
These are amazing shots! And the music is great too!
Absolutely beautiful Thank you

Truly majestic! Thanks for sharing.
Amazing i love love the quality really good .
Congratulations, looks great!
When you can name every peak and water mass here its as if your soul never left.
My heart is in El Cap.
Inspiring gift from Yosemite and Mother Nature!!
Most Excellent - thanks for sharing it with us
I'm pretty sure this isn't the first airplane hyper lapse, but its the first to go viral. Great video!
Simply amazing!
Very nice. Some segments had an almost 3D Illusion to them.
Way To Awesome,Gods work in 3-D.
Awesome shots!!
Beautiful, What a creation to see and enjoy. Thank you!
So beautiful!
I dont get it, whats the difference with a slightly accelerated footage?
These are photographs, shot using the so called hyperlapse technique, stabilised and compiled into 4K sequences.
Matthew Vandeputte Yes I got that, but you would get the same result shooting an animated sequence, stabilised and time stretched. Sorry but 'world's first hyperlapse', sounds like big words for a very basic process.

This is awesome, i wish i could see things in 4k......................... wait...........
Beautiful!
i hope this never ends
Wowwww EPIC!!!!
and the art community goes wild!!!!
Just enjoy the view guys.. 0:43 it was amazing thanks Matthew :)
But I don't get it.
Awesomeness!
lovely !
been waiting for you to post this lol
Gonna start pushing it on all my social media channels in a couple of hours, thanks for the support ;)
A well executed video. Must be a really good camera. I like the chosen music too, who is it?
Nice work...
How were you able to avoid smudges and scratches on the window? That still photo looks super clean. Great work!
Guys, a timelapse is a series of pictures from one spot. A hyper lapse is a series of pictures while the camera is moving. Not that special, but still pretty cool.
So it's video from an airplane?
Nope, it's stills, shot using the so called hyperlapse technique, stabilised and compiled into 4K sequences.

@Brad, please go and search exactly what is a hyperlapse.
A photo got more quality than a video, if I not mistaken, you can go up to 5K.
You get such wonderful sunset shots! Lovely music! What is the name of this beautiful melody?
Love your work, how can i use this as my screensaver?!
Clouds , clouds , clouds and more clouds ... Huh... I see it time lapse everyday just staring up into the sky.
Awesome, it's all I have to say!...
Whoa all old comments here
I had to check if it was April fool's day
The Beauty and Majesty of our Lord's work.
Bravo, God!
Nice footage :)

"It doesn't matter, sir. We're landing soon."
Am I the only 1 that find's our reality breath taking especially from up high....
this is cool
This is basically b-roll footage in 4k. Nothing new or impressive here.
It's videos like this--this pervasive use of time-lapse as a gimmick--that make me think of time-lapse as being the video equivalent of HDR.
AWESOME
awesome
Cant wait for someone on the plane to see this and comment
I was expecting something amazing. This looks like a regular flight. Now I know what a hyperlapse is and I'm not impressed. Timelapse is the real deal.

Hmm for some reason the only resolution available on the video is 1080p. My current screen resolution is 3840x2400 on a MBP Pro Retina.
Absolutely awesome! Shoiw me where God isn't!!!
VERY NICE !!! Great job --why are some of the folks on the posts so bitter ?
Curious so what compression happened to stream 4k?
PS-how can you watch stuff like this and say there is no God? :)
May I use a small bit (as in at most 5 seconds) of this footage in my video of the sun? Credits will be added, of course, if you were to agree.

Am I the only one not able to go into 4K quality?
Dont worry, its your internet.
captured in 4k quality, rendered in 1080p :'( no 4k for us
TheCommanderDash
?? I can watch the 4k videos fine
TheCommanderDash My screen resolution is only 1280x1024 so no 1080p vids for me :(
i have 1080p monitor, maybe planning 4k
maybe is not the first one, just write "time lapse from plane" in google...

...yeeeeah, i really need this explained to me.
Powerful. if watched in silence.
Yawn
your yawn is contagious.
What am I missing here?
The clouds moving. This is a time lapse while the camera is moving. The effect is not that noticeable but it's there, check Timescapes 4K and you'll see the effect there in full glory
I was expecting better for yahoo front page
hyperlapse? its filming without sound :)
Why did digg jump on this? It's irrelevant.
Thanks - krishna
If this was on film, it would be a waste of film. Maybe if there had been some towering cumulus clouds I wouldn't feel so underwhelmed.
Happy Mothers day... Mother Earth. :-)
Well my Flash plugin crashed when I tried 4k...
yep. that's what it looks like. when you're in an airplane.
I think it is not extra photography, normal
Kinda embarrassed to say this, but I don't understand what the purpose is of this..?
Haha, it's like a moving picture. A movie if you will. You're a little behind the curve mate. They've been around since the 1880's
You've obviously got not even the slightest idea what you're talking about if you think this has been done before.

don't see what all the fuss is about.. wasn't very good at all

Why all the hate? If you don't like it go watch something else for goodness sakes.
I wonder if he knows this is not a world first and that he's basing this off a BS title.
I'm quite certain you realise the difference between the footage you get from a static mount on a plane and footage that tracks a certain cloud/point in the field of view over a period of time.
Matthew Vandeputte almost everyone in the larger time lapse community has told you this a false title, just own up to it and stop faking it.
Matthew Vandeputte I think a simple explanation so everyone understands, because it took me a while to figure out, and still not sure. This is a moving timelapse, like the ones in the film Timescapes 4K. I bet the effect would have been more noticeable if there was a storm or high winds.
I could do this with my iPhone 5s, and it looks better, lol.
I mean, it is beautiful, but to me it isn't that impressive. I know you spent a lot of time on it. Keep it up.
For those of you who are underwhelmed... Check this hyperlapse out to see what the technique can do: vimeo.com/74145280
huh??
its not the first
Tim Bogdanov you have any links for more ?
my graphics card cant handle 4k...
