Two defensemen will be joining the Wings from GR next season. One is Edvinsson and the other is Johansson who is no longer waiver exempt. Everyone clamoring about how Yzerman could have gotten rid of other defensemen but in reality he couldn't since it cost him a second round pick to get rid of a decent player on a decent contract. So imagine what it would have took to get rid of a bigger contract for a lesser player. Another thing to consider is the trade is still open and could expand to include other players and picks.

@@Al_Andaloussi85exactly. Most “fans” don’t even know how to watch the game properly. No hockey sense at all and they wanna say he’s so great lol. Idiots imo
@@Al_Andaloussi85 Walman definitely was our best defender at points last season. There were moments when he made questionable defensive plays, but that wasn't the norm, and can be said for everyone else on our team, usually a lot more often. Plus, he scored 12 goals in 63 games, a couple of them were clutch game winners. We don't have any prospects on defense that are sure things like that. You can hope in their potential they may be as good as Walman someday, but a sure thing is always better. Yes we have a logjam on D, but I can give you three other names that should have been moved before Jake Walman.
Definitely confused by Stevie Y’s move. I get it that is a salary dump. No way Detroit can move Holl or Petry for anything less than a 2nd or 3rd round pick going along with one of them.
Hopefully, Kolyachonok is up for playing 60 minutes a night for Utah. I really hope they gave the Cup a quick wash with fresh water after dunking it in the ocean. The Yzerplan came a Philly pulled goalie away from getting into the playoffs, so I'd say they're a year ahead of where a lot of people expected them to be.
When Walman's deal was signed I thought it might be a bit much to spend a combined 8 million for 2 guys in Chariot and Walman who are black holes offensively. However, I thought Walman's was great last year, I don't get this. Great addition for San Jose, this is exactly the kind of player they should be picking up.
I honestly can't be mad or surprised that none of the other UFA/RFA defensemen have signed yet with Utah. After the nightmare of having the team you play for suddenly have a dramatic change in location I would think you want more control over where you okay next you know??
As a Wings fan I’m just wondering what they plan on doing. I don’t think Yzerman just dumps him off if he plans on doing absolutely nothing. Either way I’m excited to see what happens in free agency and the next season
The Walman trade, in a vacuum, is crap. If there's a second part to follow with a clear upgrade on D, I'm onboard. If it, instead, opens up room to re-sign Ghost, then I'm not a fan. Hopefully this is the sort of thing that can't be judged until the dust has settled on corresponding moves.
Yeah maybe if Steve did not make that obviously idiotic decission to sign useless Holl for 3x3,4M, he wouldn't have to do this another at least questionable decission...that's 4 bad moves by Steve in last 2 years (Holl, Copp, Petry and this). In Yzerplan I trust, but I am worried...
Don't forget about trading for and then buying out Yamamoto to sign kostin. And then getting rid of kostin in less than 1 full season. And still paying for Yamamoto for another full year.
Maybe. Or he’s trying to keep the old men on offense because they don’t have anyone ready to step in yet. Which just means, at best, getting into the playoffs as 7/8. Then getting Molly Whopped in the First Rd. 😂😅❤
@@ryans413lmfao he took over 5 years ago. Each year the team has gotten better. 😂 he had no prospects to speak of. His best prospects were zadina, veleno, rasmussen on the front end and defense it was lindstrom and cholowski. Tell me, how is that good?

Hes not an idiot? Please tell me who inked that Justin holl contact? It's almost like we could've had an extra 3.4 mil sitting around instead of getting rid of Andrew Gibson to then get rid of your top pair Ld.
This is what happens when you're incompetent in free agency...which Yzerman has been. Chiarot, Holl etc are TERIBLE deals and nobody will touch those contracts...
My first thought was that had better be some great consideration that San Jose will give us (Detroit) in the future. Eventually I realized that we gave them the draft pick in payment for taking Walman's cap hit. With two young defensemen expected to move up from Grand Rapids this year, I guess defensemen is one area where we can trade away players to make cap space.
But you can do that without giving up the second, Walman has a ton of value as a player and he's on a good contract, not an overpayment. This was a bad deal. We have other defenders that make the same amount that have less value that make sense to include a sweetener to move their contracts. Even if you felt you had to move on from Walman for other reasons, then you waive him, someone would certainly pick him up, its not even a gamble. A defender than can play 20 minutes and scored 12 goals last season, is likeable, and on a good contract does not go unclaimed, in fact usually you can get at least a 2nd round pick back for him.
It means that nothing is going back the other way in the trade, but that in future negotiations, the trade will be considered. So the Sharks will "remember this" when it comes to dealings with the Red Wings in the future at some point. It's a fairly subjective topic, but the main thing is what I described above

Yzerman is about to make some serious moving and shaking. Wallman has a hard shot, but got he was inconsistent playing Positional D
As a wings fan I trust Yzerman but I can’t believe he just traded off walman at points he was our best dman. Hopefully what ever he’s cooking works out
What ? Lol Walman was bad defensively last year and meh offensively so cool will leave room to launch some promising D prospects
Not a bad day to be a Flyers fan!
As a Wings fan, I am not happy at all with the Walman trade.... Yzerman better be doing something! Not happy at this point at all!
Same here.... Better be something big coming down the pipe...
@@ard1choke pike
Same..
@@leonidas7281 they're both commonly used, English is a living language, deal with it.
Wings have a ripening logjam of prospects that they need to make room for. They also need cap space for Seider, Raymond, and potentially Kane.
Geez… Walman is gone. Does this mean they won’t be able to get rid of Holl and/or Petry??
Just a pile of terrible contracts lol
Yzerman going for Stamkos
Hmmmm
I trust in the Yzerplan, lets let him cook.
The buyout window starts Thursday, right?
Definitely confused by Stevie Y’s move. I get it that is a salary dump. No way Detroit can move Holl or Petry for anything less than a 2nd or 3rd round pick going along with one of them.
If this means we sign Kane, I will be happy. Sad to Walman go.
Steve's making room to sign all his whales
I really liked Walmans personality and his game was fine too. Hard to see him go for less than peanuts.
THG, will NHL schedules be released this week? Thanks!
We need a career video for future considerations
If Michkov is half as good as some were making him out to be, several teams regret passing on him now
Hey Shannon. Who wins in a 7 game series? The stars, the way they played against the avs, or the panthers that just beat Edmonton?
When Walman's deal was signed I thought it might be a bit much to spend a combined 8 million for 2 guys in Chariot and Walman who are black holes offensively. However, I thought Walman's was great last year, I don't get this. Great addition for San Jose, this is exactly the kind of player they should be picking up.
Can’t wait for FC’s tenure in the winged wheel had my eye on him Since he entered the league
Yeah Yzerman better swing this into something big or this is gonna look pretty rough
NEVER underestimate Yzerman!
Yeah but he traded the wrong dman. Walman was actually useful
The sioux are so F'n good
I honestly can't be mad or surprised that none of the other UFA/RFA defensemen have signed yet with Utah. After the nightmare of having the team you play for suddenly have a dramatic change in location I would think you want more control over where you okay next you know??
Kolyachonok, to me, feels like the type of defenseman that teams will fight for (and end up probably overpaying for) at the deadline a year from now.
Do you think the Sharks may try to package the #14 and any number of the 2nd rounders to get into the top 5?
Utah's lineup should be
Keller-Schmaltz-Guenther
Doan-Cooley-Maccelli
Mcbain-Kerfoot-Crouse
Carcone-Hayton-O'Brien
Moser-Durzi
Valimaki-Kolyachonok
Dermott-Kesselring
Ingram
Vejmelka
Poor Walman. He’s pretty good, but he gets passed around a lot
Why not waive Walman?
is Michkov the type of player that will work for Torts?
It would be really weird seeing Stamkos play for a team that is not Tampa.
You would think Grier would take the 3 2nds and move into the first for a 3rd pick
Im not a sharks fan but that jersery is so nice
As a Wings fan I’m just wondering what they plan on doing. I don’t think Yzerman just dumps him off if he plans on doing absolutely nothing. Either way I’m excited to see what happens in free agency and the next season
The Walman trade, in a vacuum, is crap. If there's a second part to follow with a clear upgrade on D, I'm onboard. If it, instead, opens up room to re-sign Ghost, then I'm not a fan. Hopefully this is the sort of thing that can't be judged until the dust has settled on corresponding moves.
Sharks did well with that. Conroy needs to follow suit
I won’t feel good about it until I see what happens with the cap space
Yzerman doing some chess moves right now
Yeah maybe if Steve did not make that obviously idiotic decission to sign useless Holl for 3x3,4M, he wouldn't have to do this another at least questionable decission...that's 4 bad moves by Steve in last 2 years (Holl, Copp, Petry and this). In Yzerplan I trust, but I am worried...
Walman is a bottom pairing dman..people only like him because of his goal celebration 😂
Don't forget about trading for and then buying out Yamamoto to sign kostin. And then getting rid of kostin in less than 1 full season. And still paying for Yamamoto for another full year.
Obviously Yzerman is making cap space for some bigger signing. He’s not an idiot trading away people for free for no reason lol
So it’s been how many years 8 when’s the rebuild over oh never got it.
@@ryans413 This is only Yzerman's 5th year. He inherited basically a dumpster fire from Holland. Wings will be fine. Already looking to make playoffs this year and will be contenders in a few years to come
Hes not an idiot? Please tell me who inked that Justin holl contact? It's almost like we could've had an extra 3.4 mil sitting around instead of getting rid of Andrew Gibson to then get rid of your top pair Ld.
Yzerman great at drafing, but going back to tampa days free agent contracts and trades can be VERY swing and miss
Not too many GM’s batting 1.000 in any of those areas.
How much money did Philly send St.Pete is the only question I have?
Seeing all the Wings fans here upset makes me more excited as a Sharks fan for Walman!
Does Detroit go after stamkos now? 100% this trade is part of a bigger move to come
Is walman that bad?
No he played on their top pair
What does future considerations mean. I never know what that means?
It means that nothing is going back the other way in the trade, but that in future negotiations, the trade will be considered. So the Sharks will "remember this" when it comes to dealings with the Red Wings in the future at some point.
It's a fairly subjective topic, but the main thing is what I described above
Means nothing lol
@@Sharks256 gotcha. Thank you for that. Never understood that. You learn something new every day.
