Your docking area is white. My screen is black all around except for my canvas and page. I followed how to change the colors for canvas and page but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get the background ("desktop") to be white the way yours is in the video. The black is really hard on my old eyes. Thanks if anybody can point me in the right direction!
Check Edit>Preferences>Interface>Toolbars. If it is not showing, you can try Preferences>reset Preferences and restart Inkscape. The other option is to completely uninstall the program and reinstall.

Sounds like you are in dark theme. Go to Edit>Preferences, then down to “theming”. Under “user themes” uncheck the box that says “use dark theme”.
Preferences doesn't show the toolbars icons, as in the video. I am using 1.3 Inkscape w/Win 10.
