Had the pleasure of meeting Mr Hemsley maybe 25 years ago he was actually filming a commercial in Lanham Md at the Ramada Inn I walked up to him in aww and he shook my hand and smiled. RIP Sherman "George Jefferson" Hemsley I'll never for get that.
@@ashleywills8761 it's so good to hear that a lot of these celebrity people start acting high and mighty like their shit doesn't stink they forget where they come from.
He used to live in El Paso, Tx and I was stationed there when I was in the ARMY. I met him once in the store, and he was so nice and as down to earth as anyone I've ever met!!! RIP.......💙💙💙✊🏿✊🏿✊🏿
I'm white and I was raised on "All In The Family", "Sanford & Son", "Good Times", "The Jeffersons"....every sitcom under the sun. I loved and adored Sherman Hemsley and followed him to "AMEN". George Jefferson was one of the most real and funniest characters ever put to celluloid and TV was never the same. I wish I could have met Sherman and given him a hug for helping give my childhood some great memories. May he rest in peace.
My dad and I met Mr. Hemsley back in 1987 when I was 17 years old. He was dining in the same restaurant that my we were at. I was starstruck because I've always been a huge fan. I mean, I grew up watching The Jeffersons! I initially was afraid to approach him because I was thinking he would be a little abrasive like his character. 😬 Mr. Hemsley was nothing like his character. Very sweet, charming and incredibly nice! The restaurant we all were at was slow and not crowded at all. (it was 2pm on a Wednesday.) Mr. Hemsley ended up inviting my dad and I to have our meal with him. We ended up eating and spending about an hour with him just talking. (He ended up paying for our meal!)🥰 He was tripping out over what big fans we were of the show and said he never realized just how many white families loved it. He asked me why I loved it so much. I told him that outside of obvious reasons, I loved it because they didn't hide from racism. They addressed it but made it funny. They showed just how stupid and ridiculous racism and stereotypes are. I also commented on how THE JEFFERSONS were really the first prime time Black family that were presented as very successful. Mr. Hemsley was like "You know what, you're right! The Jefferson's were the first. We pre-dated The Cosby Show." Over the years I've met quite a few celebs. To this day, Mr. Hemsley was by far my favorite! A real class act! 💗 I agree, he was incredibly underrated and massively talented!
Such a cool story! Wow you spent an hour just talking to him at a restaurant like that, that’s such a blessing! He’s my favorite sit com actor and definitely the most under rated imo. Awesome experience you had. 👍 I cant even imagine running into him let alone dining with someone as incredibly talented as him, I would just be so star struck. What a life he led. May he RIP.

I love seeing Sherman Hemsley on television. So funny and talented. May he continue to rest in power. One of my personal favorites was grandpa Campbell on Sister Sister. Who remembers him being on Vh1's "Surreal Life"?!
Weezieeee!!! I can hear him screaming her name now in my head. May they both rest in peace. Something always seem strange about many celebrities deaths.
Eric Monte was homeless and doing drug's from the lack of acknowledgement of his stolen work. Norman Lear stole his idea's and think they reached an amicable settlement.
I met him on the Cta, in Chicago when I was in my teens😎 While it was obvious she was on drugs- he was very polite, and he started telling us about Norman Lear and Cooley High, Good Times etc
Norman Lear seems like a snake. When he fired John Amos from Good Times he called him and said the good news is that GT is renewing for another season, the bad news is that you won't be there anymore.
The best episodes of the jeffersons was when George saved the man life who was a member of KKK that was one of the best episodes because it reflects on what's going on in the world right now .. like he said when the KKK member told him he saved my life You should let me die See that they don't change you save their life and they don't change ....he right If we don't do something about what's going on we will never see a change
Thank you so much for this respectful tribute to Sherman. I was fortunate enough to have performed with him on a few occasions and to call him one of my best friends until his untimely passing.
I'm watching The Jefferson's right now! I've been laughing all day. Ever since I was a young kid watching this show at night when I was supposed to be sleep, I will never forget this show, I will love it always❤ Sherman Hemsley reminded me of my dad with his swagger and comedic way about him. The show Amen was just another gem that solitified my complete admiration for his talent and way about him❤ Rest easy Sherman.
Thank you for your help with keeping these celebrities’ memories alive. I saw Sherman Hemsley’s unsung. It was really sad. It was said that he was extremely shy, but generous to a fault.
It's a damn shame how they used him! There's no way, he should've been worth less then a million, when he died!! I hate what they did too successful black actors and actresses!! In my mind and heart, hollyweird owes his estate millions!!!!!!

Keep up the good work and hope you do on the late great Robin Harris, Melvin Franklin of the Temptations, Wilson Picket, Lou Rawls, Jimmy and David Ruffin, Eddie Kendricks, Ronald Bell of Kool & the Gang, Little Richard and Andre Harrell. Strive for Excellence.
Love Sherman! He was one of the most underrated talented actors! He really played George to the fullest! Why can't we see stuff like this today! Had the privilege growing up in that era of great tv! I love your channel and keep em coming man! RIP MR. HEMSELY!!!
Awww man, you got me all emotional now!! I grew up watching Amen & later The Jeffersons on syndication when Nick at Nite acquired the rights!! I watched the show every night before bed. George Jefferson makes me think of grandpa because he was a little short guy in suits. Mr. Jefferson was his nickname! I'm forever grateful to The Jeffersons because they showed us that Black people can be successful through hard work & perseverance. They moved on up (pun intended), never forgot their roots & made sure their son went to college. And never once did they act bougie. If you ever get to see the extended opening theme song, you will see Weezy crying as they follow the moving truck out of their old neighborhood! ;-; I feel so bad for Black performers, past & present. They work so hard, give so much joy to the world & end up done wrong in the end. Like damn little bro, where the fuck were you before he died? Same to you cousin!
Sherman is one of those rare actors that'll never be forgotten. His jive talking and slick walk on the Jefferson makes him a distinguishable icon. Gone but not forgotten.
I do know that he had peoples in Flint, Michigan that he visited often in the 70's. His people owned a store on Flint's Westside. I was young and I can't remember the name of the store but I do remember there were lots pictures of him and that he came there twice a year and would take pictures and give autographs with people from the neighborhood. People that saw him said he was nice and didn't act Hollywood and this was at the time The Jeffersons were a hot TV show. He was one of my favorites and it's sad the way he left here being unburied for months.... RIP Sherman Hensley
Phyllis Hyman had a real UnSung episode and it’s pretty good. You should check it out. It’s on RUclips. I love it! This man reads straight from Wikipedia and UnSung episodes. I like him though.
Wow just arguing with family over family is crazy unless it’s something we don’t know. He played George so good who would have thought he was an introvert and shy guy! RIP Sherman Hemsley🕊❤️
THIS man was one of my absolute favorites! Man, this dude was the TRUTH! I LOVE the show, all of his shows, & it's just a damn shame how underrated he was! This man was a TRUE legend! An inspiration to people everywhere, especially black people! I think something is up with his death too! It just doesn't sound right that he was a health nut, yet he died of lung cancer??? Then his "loved ones" all of a sudden, come out of the woodwork, talking about they are family??? It goes to show u the greed of people!

I grew up in the late 70s and 80s. I remember the Jeffersons being in syndication and being shown every weekday two episodes in my city. I am so glad both Sherman Hemsley and Marla Gibbs went on to star in successful sitcoms after the Jeffersons was cancelled. That doesnt always happen in TV

Actors like Sherman, Carroll O’Connor, and John Amos come along only ONCE. They didn’t play their roles. They EMBODIED them. U don’t see talent like that today. Today its bout looks, flashy, crude humor, dumb reality shows etc. Thank god for DVDs. I’ll stick with that.
It's been known... lot of people that we're gay would say their lovers were their business partners or roommate. He didn't need a roommate, living with a man for 30 years it was most likely his lover and that's the reason he left everything to him. It's just a shame that he couldn't live out loud and stand in his truth. It really didn't matter what his sexuality was he was a phenomenal actor and that's all that matters, what he did in his personal life was his business.
I loved all of these shows me and my mother use to watch them. The Jeffersons, Good Times, and all in the family actually aired on CBS first.. These shows remind me of good things and good memories...
Yes. Please do an episode on Monte. Because James Evans (John Amos) punk ass going around talking about his struggles on the Good Times set like he was the man. RIP Sherman Hemsley. I loved him in the Jeffersons, Fresh Prince and Up Up and Away. I would also like for you to do a video on Joe Alaskey, Eazy E, C. Martin Crocker, Dwayne McDuffie, Eddie Guerrero, Mac Dre, Big Pun, Etika, Shad Gaspard, Bruiser Brody, Owen Hart, Mary Kay Bergman, Greg Burson, Steady B, Chris Benoit, Scott La Rock, Junkyard Dog, The Von Erich Family, The Buckwheat Boyz, Force MDs, Crash Holly, Test, Brian Pillman and Art Barr.
@Cee L Well you're wrong. He did the Poltergeist cast, Jim Jones not to long ago and Corey Haim.
I'd love to hear about Art Barr and Brian Pillman honestly.
@Cee L Oh my bad lmao. I was just giving him recommendations like a normal viewer of his channel would.
Please do the story on Eazy-E Bernie Mac big big punisher miss you all
Etika needs a video
I love seeing Sherman Hemsley on television. So funny and talented. May he continue to rest in power. One of my personal favorites was grandpa Campbell on Sister Sister. Who remembers him being on Vh1's "Surreal Life"?!
Lung cancer can strike pretty much anyone. Even healthy/unhealthy non-smokers get it.
Exactly. Ask Donna Summer's family.
That's crazy. Makes u wonder about second hand smoke giving people cancer. He had to have been around a ton of people smoking cigars and cigarettes.
Sherman show bM how to be business minded! 💯🎯 all in a Sitcom now that’s gangster/smart !💯🎯
Exactly. Blk EXCELLENCE.
Weezieeee!!! I can hear him screaming her name now in my head. May they both rest in peace. Something always seem strange about many celebrities deaths.
👍THISS!🎯💯👍👍
I grew up watching the Jefferson. R.I.P Sherman Hemsley.
Yes that's true
I doubt it was amicable as he settled and didn't get what he really deserved...he said as much he didn't have a choice that or nothing.
Norman Lear seems like a snake. When he fired John Amos from Good Times he called him and said the good news is that GT is renewing for another season, the bad news is that you won't be there anymore.
@@ericmatterson9905 😳whaaat? 4 Real???
The best episodes of the jeffersons was when George saved the man life who was a member of KKK that was one of the best episodes because it reflects on what's going on in the world right now .. like he said when the KKK member told him he saved my life
You should let me die
See that they don't change you save their life and they don't change ....he right
If we don't do something about what's going on we will never see a change
I love the narrator because he really research DEEP to provide the things about these celebrities that we didn't know.
Aww I luv the Jefferson's could u do one on Esther rolle and Sammy Davis Jr please much luv.
Sammy Davis Jr. was ahead of his time, the new generation needs to know this man’s story
Man, who didn’t love ol Sherman. I really miss him.
He's a legend. Classic.📺🎬🌟
Yes he was he was a true legend in his own right
@@monicamariamclean2198 💯.🍿📺🍫
She was 20 yrs older than him? I always thought they were around the same age.
You should cover the stories of Isabel Sanford, Lucille Ball, Eazy-E, Red Foxx, Lawanda Page, etc.
Man I appreciate your Attention to Detail in these! Thank You!!
👑💯👀🍿☕
Thank you so much for this respectful tribute to Sherman. I was fortunate enough to have performed with him on a few occasions and to call him one of my best friends until his untimely passing.
Fun fact: Robin Thickes Dad sang the theme song to Different Strokes..✌👍
Great video but FYI, Norman Lear did not produce or have anything to do with The Cosby Show's production, creation, etc
He is always getting some 'facts' wrong. ALWAYS! good videos tho'

Thanks for continuing to give us knowledge with these videos. Stay safe and healthy.
When you think about it, "The Jefferson's" walked so "Fresh Prince" can run.
Sanford & Son was my ish!!!!!✊🏼
Man I loved that show!
Loved how Sherman & Carrol O'Connor ( Archie Bunker) used to go at it on that t.v show All in the Family.
You'll NEVER see shows like these no more😒😟
Glad I was born super early in the 80's I remember this stuff.
Take care Ya'll. ✊🏼
These kids today are too overly sensitive for Archie Bunker and George Jefferson. After five min they'd have to go into their "safe space" because they'd be "triggered" 😂😂😂

Ren and stimpy
To name a few, that doesn't mention the movies let alone culture...

I was a Home Health Aid for 3 years & had a patient who had quit smoking 🚬 for over 30 years..long story short she found out she had lung cancer (at 78) & less than 6 months after her diagnosis she passed away. Bottom line is,smoking can definitely catch up with you! Doesn’t matter how long ago you stopped.
May Sherman R.I.P. as well as my patient Ms.Dolores
Great Celebrity Underrated of the Sherman Hemsley story. I'm a big fan of his and i grew up watching the Jeffersons every time the show comes on TV a lot. That show it's one of my favorite!
Ooo this sounds like a good lineup🤗👍
Awww man! Thanks Celebrity Underrated! I love me some Sherman Hemsley!! 🙏🏽💜🙏🏽
Love Sherman! He was one of the most underrated talented actors! He really played George to the fullest! Why can't we see stuff like this today! Had the privilege growing up in that era of great tv! I love your channel and keep em coming man! RIP MR. HEMSELY!!!
Sherman is my guy🙏🏾 hollywood always find a way for black actors to end up broke.
We all know how the "industry game" is DO NOT PASS GO, DO NOT COLLECT MILLION DOLLARS. STRIGHT TO HELL, When your whoring for the white man
👍THISSS!🎯💯📌👍
I knew Janet Dubois sung the theme show song for the Jefferson. RIP beautiful lady.
Awww man, you got me all emotional now!! I grew up watching Amen & later The Jeffersons on syndication when Nick at Nite acquired the rights!! I watched the show every night before bed. George Jefferson makes me think of grandpa because he was a little short guy in suits. Mr. Jefferson was his nickname! I'm forever grateful to The Jeffersons because they showed us that Black people can be successful through hard work & perseverance. They moved on up (pun intended), never forgot their roots & made sure their son went to college. And never once did they act bougie. If you ever get to see the extended opening theme song, you will see Weezy crying as they follow the moving truck out of their old neighborhood! ;-;
I feel so bad for Black performers, past & present. They work so hard, give so much joy to the world & end up done wrong in the end. Like damn little bro, where the fuck were you before he died? Same to you cousin!
I absolutely love everything about Sherman Hemsley...what a beautiful, talented man he was. God bless his soul✝️💟💯😎
Sherman is one of those rare actors that'll never be forgotten. His jive talking and slick walk on the Jefferson makes him a distinguishable icon. Gone but not forgotten.
RIP Sherman. Man did I love the Jeffersons
Always heard alot of stories of him in Flint
That's where I'm from (flint Michigan) and I remember my grandfather saying something about that
Can you do one on Phyllis Hyman and Teena Marie
Phyllis Hyman had a real UnSung episode and it’s pretty good. You should check it out. It’s on RUclips. I love it!

I wish you would talk more about his love life. He was a very private person. That's a shame how long they held his body...
Just talk to the two guys who are still alive who knows all about it, Quincy Jones and Reginald VelJohnson...... like Wendy Williams always says, “how u doin”

Always thought Amen was super underrated! A sweet, funny comedy!
I absolutely adore your work- i learn so much from you! Thank you for the hard work you put into these.
I was watching his show Amen earlier. Good video

i heard his story b4, i just don't understand how he lost ALL of his jeffersons money... that is so crazy to me, especially back in the days, the money had weight
Trying to make movies costs millions... He invested in them and the deals fell through...and he loss his investment.
I could just cry when I hear about this great man/actor. I saw his Unsung, and he was such a sweet guy. Thank you for this feature. please do one on 227.

This was good and fulfilled my hunger for knowledge of this great black icon in television. R.I.P.
It's been known... lot of people that we're gay would say their lovers were their business partners or roommate. He didn't need a roommate, living with a man for 30 years it was most likely his lover and that's the reason he left everything to him. It's just a shame that he couldn't live out loud and stand in his truth. It really didn't matter what his sexuality was he was a phenomenal actor and that's all that matters, what he did in his personal life was his business.
he would have been so proud of the details and painstaking research evident in your work. Great Work. Thank you!
