I’m a white man, and in school I’m taught that Dr. King was the man who had a dream for racial equality. He was, and I respected him for that. However, I was never taught that he was a socialist acknowledged the underreported housing crisis, rising wealth inequality, and white backlash towards “radical” ideas. He wasn’t just a preacher, a leader of a movement, he was a man far ahead of his time who argued for a fundamental change of societal values. And that makes me respect him even more.
Yeah! We’re always told the whitewashed version in school. Politicians changed him into what they wanted, as did schools and the very education system itself. He was a great man, outside that one speech. We all ought to learn more about him.

I had black teachers that taught history and I too was never taught that MLK was fighting for more then racial equality. I agree that they should teach more about him and what he was all about. It would help people understand how the problems he outlines more than 50 years ago are still things we're dealing with today, and that even then he recognized them as being critical to true equality and the civil rights movement.

My grandparents of maternal side were communists. They were true communists, because everybody was in their eyes equal. So when the US president Kennedy Malcolm x and Martin Luther King were assasinated;They made a rememberance plaque.It did hang for years in their house. Somehow the plaque gave me a sense of pride and respect for my grandparents, because they believed truly in equality of men. Despite of the communist belief I am proud what they teached me.

At one time WE walked in unity but today there is always ONE or TWO who will be off code. The other problem with Black People is that too many of Us think we know everything. Never humble ourselves to someone wiser. Lastly, FORGIVENESS...When you forgive time after time, after time you become blinded to what is done RIGHT in front of your face. Save your SOUL and SEPARATE from these creatures. Spiritually, Socially and one day Economically....otherwise their Morals of shooting Unarmed people is a Honorable thing will rub off on you. One thing for sure a majority of us are not sleeping anymore. Some of us will stay comatose due to fear. I was in the audience at Stanford on that day. I will not forget it. We've made lots of progress since then, but the struggle is not over. The deep-rooted problems Dr. King mentioned have not disappeared, but they are more widely acknowledged today. This speech is as relevant today as it was in 1967. We should all listen again and remind ourselves that we have a duty to promote human rights not only in law, but even more importantly in daily life. Thank you, Dr. King.

Many don't know much about him. 1. Real name is Michael Lewis king. 2. Named after Martin Luther the theologian. ( sudo name). 3. Worked for the Rothschild and blumberg family. 4. Goal was integration to save whites. 5. Blacks had black wall street and would have built it back after it was bomb but they merged with whites 6. He wanted a white cafe worker but the powers to be said NO. His marriage was arranged with correta. 7. Correta did much of his work and they helped him cheat on his doctoral thesis. 8.he attend the racist communist highlander folks school. Correta wrote not 1 but 3 books and had a white man to do them for her. In those stories she is basically saying she had a hand in it.. 9. All that preaching check into the S.N.I.C. he was involved with and the lifestyles of their members. 10. He put hitler down but went to study with ghandi but ghandi didn't like black people. Ahimsa is from the Indian people aka non violence just like many from India so whites can get you to conform to their standards. 11. Absolutely, every time I listen to him, I say the same thing. He is the most eloquent, and well versed speaker that I've heard in my 70 years. It just blows my mind when I think of how long ago that was.

This MLK was never taught to me, I never heard this speech until now for MLK day I'm going to study MLK to a deeper extent. It just amazes me that was so ahead of his times with his philosophy and spoke truth to power,till the end of his life.

Back in the 1950's and 60's yes, it was cruel to coldly tell someone who was greatly disadvantage to just "pick themselves up". Not everyone is capable in doing so. Especially when laws in those days worked against black people. In 2020, it's not cruel to tell most people to pull themselves up because almost everyone is capable and they're not hindered by the unjust laws of the 50's and 60's.

I'm from Alabama and white. I once didn't like him very well. I found out more about him. Now I can't get enough of his speeches. So, if you or anybody that you know feels the way I used to feel or worse, listen to him. You will, if nothing else learn some new words. I googled some big words and expanded my vocabulary. The diligence of Dr. King makes me a great admirer of him. We can also truly learn a lot from his ideals also.

I’ve known about MLK my whole life but at 38yrs of age , after achieving a college education and then self educating myself on history can I finally understand MLK, his intelligence was on another level. I’m sure a lot things he said went over the average persons head.

I was born and grew up in central Africa. Once started building my consciousness of the world in which I was living, the writing of MLKJ have inspired me since then and have informed my worldview. This is a powerful and inspirational message for anyone who is truly engaged in social justice and humanity of all people regardless of their races and origins. Sadly, no politician irrespective of the country one looks at can compare and measures up. RIP Dr. MLKJ.

The audience was still applauding and giving a standing ovation even as the clip was cut off! Truth always has a certain ring to it and that truth is still ringing today! Everything Dr. King said then is true even now. Truth is consistent and shows itself to be the truth without fail. May we learn these things together, so that we may come together or be torn completely apart.

I completely agree with you. This is why we chose to homeschool after a few years of public schools. I noticed that our schools were leaving out what I was taught in particular subjects. I know realize that I missed out on so much history in my education. This has been going back for almost 50yrs. Always educate and research for yourself instead of letting someone else do for you. There is always an agenda out there from a core group.
I agree, as parents/adults we should teach our children because we must remember: The American Revolution was not fought for us, but Black Marines fought in that war. Free Public Education was not intended for us, but Black men were used to build many of the school buildings in the south. The Banks did not create the Financial Regulatory system to include and assist Black Americans. In fact, "The Father of American Finance", Carter Glass' intention was to make sure the African Slave and his descents in America would never be able to use the Financial Systems to prosper in America. Glass was born 1857-1946 and never changed his mind despite the injustices Blacks suffered during and after Reconstruction. Read, Banking In America.

We fight for a Culturally responsive education and proper funding of our very segregated schools everyday. I'm so glad you Kings and Queens are watching. We must study our whole history to learn from the ones that gave their lives for us to be here. We demand everything that has been stolen from us. Keep the integration we want ECONOMIC INTEGRATION! You, Doctor King, have moved my Soul with all your speeches, I have been an Activist, Volunteer all my life and small Business, both parents Philanthropist, however nothing in all my life has moved my Soul Emotionally, I've read, traveled, applied but you have opened up my conscience in a way that never has been enlightened. I thank God for you Sir. I have mixed roots and Black cousins, we know about a wee bit of racism here even in Vancouver, BC, Canada 🇨🇦, my family are well known for all their achievements, first black man to own a mansion my Uncle and all my black Uncles did well, singing for hobby Motown, dancing contests my mother, her sister in the 50s on tasting street, but all comes from hard work, I owned my business, I am very proud, proud to be able to have a voice here, never just a book by the cover folks because you might just be ashamed, I know Doctor King is smiling down, encouraging us, Leading us, if we just keep applying what he has spoken about all will be done!

Now we live in the nightmare. We need to dream the dream again and live it with love for one another.as Dr. King suggested. Dark Knight he was quite smart. He went to university at 15 and got his doctorate in his late 20s.

for years in their house.
Somehow the plaque gave me a sense of pride and respect for my grandparents, because they believed truly in equality of men.

I was in the audience at Stanford on that day. I will not forget it. We've made lots of progress since then, but the struggle is not over. The deep-rooted problems Dr. King mentioned have not disappeared, but they are more widely acknowledged today. This speech is as relevant today as it was in 1967. We should all listen again and remind ourselves that we have a duty to promote human rights not only in law, but even more importantly in daily life. Thank you, Dr. King.

Back in the 1950's and 60's yes, it was cruel to coldly tell someone who was greatly disadvantage to just "pick themselves up". Not everyone is capable in doing so. Especially when laws in those days worked against black people.

There are people or powers, that want to keep racism alive so they can use it as a tool, to what purpose or end, I don't know. I just know it makes me want to cry. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr was a great leader and a great man. We can only honor him by keeping his ideas alive.
I'm 50 yrs. old this speech is awesome and still ring true today. We need economics as tangibles equal playing field and not symbolism as lies of doing nothing.

I completely agree with you. This is why we chose to homeschool after a few years of public schools. I noticed that our schools were leaving out what I was taught in particular subjects. I know realize that I missed out on so much history in my education. This has been going back for almost 50yrs. Always educate and research for yourself instead of letting someone else do for you. There is always an agenda out there from a core group.

I agree, as parents/adults we should teach our children because we must remember: The American Revolution was not fought for us, but Black Marines fought in that war. Free Public Education was not intended for us, but Black men were used to build many of the school buildings in the south. The Banks did not create the Financial Regulatory system to include and assist Black Americans. In fact, "The Father of American Finance", Carter Glass' intention was to make sure the African Slave and his descents in America would never be able to use the Financial Systems to prosper in America. Glass was born 1857-1946 and never changed his mind despite the injustices Blacks suffered during and after Reconstruction. Read, Banking In America.

Wow.. He had such an old aura about him. When I was younger in grade school I just knew he was at least in his 40 or 50's. Credit to dr. King, such a young well versed, powerful being. He was and is still a iconic game changer in his own right.. God is good !!

Hey Everyone I'm a education activist in Harlem NYC. I see alot of people are asking why they didn't learn this in school. Simple they don't want us or our children to know the truth. We fight for a Culturally responsive education and proper funding of our very segregated schools everyday. I'm so glad you Kings and Queens are watching. We must study our whole history to learn from the ones that gave their lives for us to be here. We demand everything that has been stolen from us. Keep the integration we want ECONOMIC INTEGRATION! Big difference. Remember who we are and do you're part so our children can grow up to be who they are destined to be. Who we are destined to be! What a great and beautiful man we had in Dr. King. It is a sin and a permanent scar on this country that he died the way he did.

I have mixed roots and Black cousins, we know about a wee bit of racism here even in Vancouver, BC, Canada 🇨🇦, my family are well known for all their achievements, first black man to own a mansion my Uncle and all my black Uncles did well, singing for hobby Motown, dancing contests my mother, her sister in the 50s on tasting street, but all comes from hard work, I owned my business, I am very proud, proud to be able to have a voice here, never just a book by the cover folks because you might just be ashamed, I know Doctor King is smiling down, encouraging us, Leading us, if we just keep applying what he has spoken about all will be done!

Dr. King said everything that needed to be said about what was wrong with our society and how it could be rectified. Powerful people did not want to change. They still don't. Now we live in the nightmare. We need to dream the dream again and live it with love for one another.as Dr. King suggested.
