Damage is bad, but really happy storm surge wasn’t as bad as they thought it would be.
Yeah I was expecting more water
That’s because the wind shifted last minute and Cameron, Louisiana got the storm surge instead.
After flying over the Mississippi gulf coast in a helicopter several days immediately after Katrina, I guess my standards for what's bad is all messed up, because that doesn't really look that bad.
libra8a lake Charles is 40 miles and no we did get some thank god it went away fast
check out videos of the town of Cameron and Holly Beach..wiped off the map
All things considered, this damage is much much less than expected. Hurricane Laura was after all a Category 4 storm .... an example of how much better building codes are today vs 30 years ago or so.
Were you there?
Prayers to everyone
I was raised here. Lake Charles, La will bounce back 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Hope nobody left their pets behind. If anyone is there, hope they are rescued, human and animal. Wow, so much devastation. Prayers for all those who were affected.
Fuck pets! We are more concerned about human lives right now. Grandmas, sisters, brothers and dads. Who cares about your fucking chihuahua!
I help network rescue efforts for large and domestic animals
@@shawnsavage3092 Dick
@@shawnsavage3092 I hope you are not an owner of an animal! I didn't say PET, because you don't know the meaning of the word. You are a terrible person and in my world, I would truly save my pets before I would save you!
I feel for this people, but can we talk about those houses built with matches? cinder blocks, concrete, bricks is the way to go if you are in the hurricane zone.
Ok learn your stuff this part of Louisiana has not had a hurricane like this in years and not every one has that kind of money not every one can build brick houses this is very disappointing on how you think of this disaster
@@qtzoro And who is going to teach me? you? lets talk facts: I grew up in Puerto Rico. right in the middle of hurricane alley. From a young age and a few hurricanes myself I learned a fact; concrete houses survive mostly intact while wooden ones are turned to splinters. That is a fact. I meant no disrespect but if your town is like my old hometown then it is not a mater of if a hurricane hits, the question is when. Plan ahead.
Do you wag your finger at every person driving a tiny hatchback who’s killed in a car accident? People live in what they can afford. There are people in earthquake zones who live in block homes, it just is what it is.
@@Austinole11 I didn't perceive his comments as wagging fingers. It's a reasonable question and a reasonable thought process to have if you live in a place where your house is at risk. Do you think people in Europe are richer than Americans? But they somehow manage to live in concrete, brick or stone houses. And yet they don't even get hurricanes. It's a reasonable conversation to have in the wake of such devastation.
dgracey01 ok but let’s be real you didn’t state where your from its a one sided thing look it up don’t comment this sorry but for people who go trough this this is offensive and inside newer mobile homes they are really nice but now these well structured houses cost a lot and people would rather mobile homes because since those cost so much we would want something nice but also cheap
It's always so odd how storms like this leave some things mostly intact while the building next to it is just completely gone.
It's eerie, I guess tiny differences in the lay of the land, certain angles catching the wind more forcefully, small quality fluctuations among the structures...these things add up, but it still boggles the mind.
Its cuz it got hit by debris while the next did not. Simple physics
Please!! Any footage of the Grand Chenier/ Rockefeller Refuge / Creole areas?
Great coverage! Thanks!
For sure this is the year no one will forget! So much sadness and loss for all of us. Prayers out to all of the people involved 🙏❤️
Good video. Thanks for it. I pray people are ok!
4:30 that just gave me chills running over my body. I hope no one was in those mobile homes. It's crazy earlier several apartment or condo buildings without visible damage and then a random unit of the same construction just looking like a bomb went off.
I imagine it is linked to the wind resonance of the building. I don't know how it is in English, I am sorry. But the idea is that any structure, or blocks of structures, will have a pattern of reaction to a wind coming from a given place with a given strength. If this is strong enough, or long enough, it will have one place which gets winds accelerated in a way that it suffers the most damage.
Pak De my brother’s mobile home is completely gone both my brother and his girlfriend are devastated 😢 I have yet to see what conditions my house is in I herd it was bad but I want to see for myself
Thank you for posting.
I live in Sulphur. Major damage to house and no trees are left in my yard. Watching this video all I could think about was hearing Cleveland Brown saying “What the Hell! No No Noo Noooo!”
The price of seafood may increase now - all those shrimp boats banged up.
shrimp mostly comes from thailand anyways
not all seafood comes from there. Alaska, and some of the NE states produce a lot.
maybe, maybe not, most of the big boats would have gone to TX or MS before the storm hit since they knew it was coming

Great shots. I think Cameron had a mandatory evac. glad they did.
I can't believe how pristine the gravel piles are!
The news footage does not do it justice. I drove threw several towns, it’s mind boggling how much damage there is. In Lafayette it looked like a giant dumped a pile of trees on a neighborhood.
:30 in please explain how those mounds of dirt or sand or whatever that is did not blow away compared to all the surrounding area?
Possibly piles of fairly large rocks. Scale is impossible to tell at this distance.
Yes! Same thought
I'm more confused as to why it didn't wash away. But I've seen that conveyor...pretty sure it's gravel/sand.....get sand wet, and it doesn't blow away, but it will get pushed by water. It's not flat, so air can't get under it like metal when wet. I'll be damned if I know how it stayed in that shape, however. Maybe the piles were larger before...Idk.
God saves...😂
Wet sand doesn't blow away
This is devastating! I feel for these poor people.
yeah took my place we are gonna be living in a camper for about a year and being without power for 2 months is NOT fun
Any info why there wasn't much storm surge ? interesting part is that such powerful hurricane didn't flood this city
The storm shifted slightly East from where they predicted. Grand Chenier got 17 feet of storm surge. The massive surge predicted for the Lake Charles area was assuming the storm was going to go straight up Lake Calcasieu. Luckily for LC that didn’t happen.
Random. Question but who comes up with the names of hurricanes
Wow it seems like certain structures were more vulnerable than others. That’s crazy.
I understand it either but it happens my friends house was distroyed but his 50 yards away looked like nothing happened
Prayers for all.
Life can change fast. Prayers for those people. 2020....wow
Looks more like a tornado came through here the way everything got tossed and broken.
They did the hurricane made a lot of tornados these videos on the internet don’t show everything if you go drive around it look horrible looks like a nuclear bomb went off and it’s sad that some of these people don’t think it’s that bad a lot of my fiends and family have no roof on there house or no house at all
Hurricanes generate dozens of tornados.
That RV park shot was amazing. Hope all got out in time.
Hurricane baits
Yes. We hear you
Talk about Hit and Miss. Wind does some crazy things.
No even fun for those who comeback wondering if their houses held and they find nothing but the foundation 😥😣😥
Did that guy who stayed back at the school come out OK?
Wondering the same.
Nope, he was lost in the storm
@@luka3532 Let me know when you have a source
The gambling boat survived
imagine that
Residents, saved thousands and thousands of dollars by not going to the casinos! Hurricane Laura was the first gambler!
Construction companies are probably thriving right now
Hammer time
whats with all the light wood structures? have you guys not heard of tilt up concrete? seems like it would wolve 50% of these problems
How are those sand mountains still there with a high peak on one of them?? Weird 🤔🤷🏻♀️
That's what I was thinking
? It is wind that makes sand dunes in the deserts. The peaks re actually formed by wind.
Village Green Apartments at 1:45, counting fron the left, my apartment is the second one and I spent the night of hurricane laura in there. 3 apartments over from where the roof and walls flew off. Heard all the noise but God kept me calm and in charge and thankfully I am alive
ORANGE, TEXAS GOT
HIT PRETTY BAD ALSO 😪😪
Lake charles will never be the same after this. I have some family that lost everything in this hurricane there after the roof blew off their home and destroyed all their belongings they didnt take with them
These people know this could happen ever hurricane season.
Anyone else wonder why the big tall sand piles at the gravel pit were untouched
Better thank God that storm surge wasn't 20ft whew you would see any of this, I remeber being I. N.O for Katrina jeez
How bad was the total damage compared to Katrina?
My uncle from the national guard said the damage was worse but not the storm surge
Why does Laura remind me of Andrew!??
You take the L turn it into an A then you turn the A into a N turn the U into a D keep the R turn the A into E then add a W coincidence I think not!😂
May the Lord have mercy
That trailer park looks more like a down burst damaged it. Or some very strong straight lined winds
That's mother nature. She's always on the move and we must accept that fact.
I’m surprised there’s hardly any flooding
Hope you’re all safe, really sad.
what happened to all the water? this is the driest aftermath that I have ever seen! I'm glad of course but it is odd for a hurricane
Laura was alllll wind.
Stay safe protected and strong peace blessings and love all the way from Kpk Peshawar Pakistan...
What a mess where do you begin to clean up. 🙏🙏🙏 Everyone is safe, 💞🕯️🙏🇦🇺
How do I find out about jobs to clean up the mess for FEMA
It is going to take a lot of time to fix this damage. I would love to help out with work if somehow I could.
Goto Fema wesite.
What is your background in Hurricanes? Do you have a solid resume?
@@lextacy2008 Hurricanes are for meteorologists, clean up and reconstruction are for skilled and unskilled labor. Let me guess you are an HR person? The dumbest weeds in the garden.
The contracts get handed out to politically connected disaster recovery corporations. Then they sub-contract the work; the subcontractor get sub-subcontractors and so on. Finally, some guy from Michigan who owns a dump truck (with a soggy stuffed animal decorating the front fender) shows up to do the actual work. Or a sub-sub-subcontractor with a Mexican crew. That's what I saw after Katrina. Louisiana is all about connections. The connected keep most the money. The work gets done by guys making $10 - 20/hour but overpaying & competing for housing, food and a place to wash clothes.
Pure power of the mother of the mother
Houses that are not built to withstand strong storms and to think this is not the first time LA has gone thru this kind of devastation and still they don't get it.
You still don’t get that not everyone can buy that shit and buy and first of all this part of Louisiana has never been hit this strong in years
Drones have been an invasive nuisance for a while but in events like this, they are invaluable.
these are all shot from a news station's helicopter wtf are you talking about
It's recorded from a helicopter. Can't you hear the sound that is emitting?
A lot of damage. Praying for them.
O Lord Jesus, pls keep all the bad wind n fire away from this sinful earth pls Lord 😢 protect we sinful humans n all yr innocent lovely animalsss too... so sad n broken hearted to watch many many terrible things happening... hv Mercy n Grace on all yr creations pls Abba Father. Hard to imagine everybody left, had to be some who rode it out and who knows, haven’t heard about deaths
Hurricane season just getting started... This won't be the last one
Four right now known.
I've heard 4 fatalities so far:(
150 stayed in cameron
I know a few who stayed and I haven’t heard anything back from them
Praying for the victims and their loved ones.
Were is all the flooding ?
I’m not trying to come off inconsiderate to those who were impacted by this storm but the damage from this video and what I’ve seen does not appear to be as bad as I would have thought for a Cat4. I had my home destroyed by Hurricane Sandy back in 2012 which I believe was a Cat2 at time of landfall and the storm surge was far more brutal. The difference there seems to be that a lot of Jersey is built up directly next to the beach where lake charles is more inland. I apologize if this comes off ignorant.
About 4:23 into the feed shows that it was extremely lucky this thing didn't hit a more densely populated area.
1:43 I immediately thought of Cleveland
I don't understand why people don't get their RVs and boats go somewhere safe. Same for boats in the water.
I am so totally overwhelmed by this storm damage. May God grant y'all total restoration. So so sad with COVID-19 lurking around. Stay strong. God help us all in Jesus name.
Jeanette Dawson in God's name only. Jesus peace be upon him was a prophet not a god. Check out Islam.
2x4 construction does not have a chance with those kind of winds. A friend of mine (SW LA) mobile home - his own lot, was completely decimated. He has no services and no water. A sad sad sight.
Es respirar el botar su energía e lo mismo en pais los terrmoto es mustra tierra
Mother Nature always wins
... damn
Why are the sand piles in perfect order @ .35 seconds? Doesn't make any sense
So sad, y’all protect the old & vulnerable!
This could footage of Hurricane Rita, looks like the same damage.
Luckily the storm was moving fast northward instead of slowing down which would have brung much more storm surge.
OMG.. Looks like a tornado hit
@Waheedullah wafa how's that exactly?
So so sad to see the devastation:(. May God be with them all:(
YOU'RE DOING GREAT, SKYEYE, THANKYOU SO MUCH FOR THE COVERAGE, RISKING YOUR OWN LIFE UP THERE IN THE HELO, TO SHOW US THE DAMAGE...;)
The very reason why you should never buy a mobile home in the south.
Unless it has wings
Probably all they could afford. Mobile homes are never a good investment in any location.
Brock Samson These days you can buy a home with property cheaper than mobile homes.
Kim Allen not exactly depends where you live and how cheap property is
Zoro are you a mobile home salesmen cause so not true.
Thankfully not as bad as predicted
Wondering if one day we will ever start building in Concrete so we wont have to start over repairing every year all those damaged homes
Or pykrete lol
This could have been Houston TX. God saved us.
So sad to see the damage.
I thought it was going to be floded. I don't understand
🤪
They where wrong about it but the wind was so strong there was a little flooding it more then we have seen in a long time but the winds destroyed a lot the news does not show the damage of everything
Sorry it happened to Louisiana but im glad it missed south Texas
I feel horrible for agreeing. My best friend lives in Southern Texas and I was anxious for him and his family.
Plamena Kirilova It turned away at the last moment for south Texas
Damage is like category 3 hurricane
That because there wasn’t that much major flooding when that happens it’s way worse
Zoro yeah true , like always news told , there will be catastrophic floods , but it didnt
Baam Beem yeah but I’m from lake Charles the eye hit head on with 140-150+ winds there is a lot of damage just not a lot of flossing damage just wind and tornado damage as hurricanes create a lot of tornados
you no who is controling the weather? dont you?
Hurricane alley: Brownsville, TX to Cape Cod
Tornado Alley: Texas to Georgia to Illinois to Nebraska
Flooding: Any state that gets heavy rain and a creek and/or a river
Rising sea levels: Any coastal state in the USA
Landslides: See Flooding above
Ignoramuses: Anyone who resides in any of the above areas, has lived through one or two of those natural disasters, and refuses to move.
I had hurricane Irma go directly over my house in Florida. My house was fine. A few trees went down and took out the power for 17 days. But the houses here are built to code, and the area is designed to drain and dissipate a lot of rain water, so houses stayed intact and there wasn't much debris except for branches which are fairly soft.
Would I do it again? yes. It beats shoveling snow and driving on icy roads. Everywhere has dangers, just need to prepare, or be ready to evacuate and rebuild.
The thing is, people can't afford to live in "safer" places or in higher quality buildings. It isn't stupidity, it's poverty.
I’d love to move away from the coast but I doubt I’ll ever be able to afford to do so.
