That's funny, but what is meant is that you can't stay and safely be in your home due to flooding/power outages/flying debris. The journalists aren't restricted to their homes so they can move around. And God bless them for giving us a taste of what it would be like to be there in that storm...

You gotta remember these people, for the most part, are desensitized to hurricanes, so when a big one hits, they don’t really think about just how bad it is.

@White Knight by all means tell me exactly how you would survive a storm surge of 15 - 20 feet...
THAT was the "unsurvivable" part, which was the estimated peak height of the surge if the Hurricane had come in at high tide. It in fact did NOT come in at high tide, and thus the storm surge was lower. HOWEVER, the winds were more severe than anticipated.
Additionally as a meteorologist she understands a lot of the risk factors involved in Hurricanes and other violent weather phenomena, she and Jim Cantore were both stationed in Lake Charles when Laura made landfall.
Live on the ground reporting was how news about New Orleans flooding broke, Harvey flooding houston, and generally news concerning the aftermath of most hurricanes is gathered from ON THE GROUND reporting and storm chasers. Don't just assume that they pick any old place in the path of the storm to broadcast and hunker down in...
