If you wouldn’t but a laptop with a small ssd (local storage) with no expansion bay or slots then you can’t talk against having a micro sd slot in a smart phone . Blazing fast and reliable internet is not available in every single location and even still sometimes local storage is still faster . We get your point but expandable storage still has its place. UNTIL the internet covers the entire planet and its 100% percent fail-proof then local and expandable storage is still needed.
