I've never spent much time in Minneapolis, but the accents were a bit more rural than urban, and not uncommon for Wisconsin, northern Michigan, and north Ontario (Canada), so yes, people do talk like that.
I love to ear all the different america accents even tho somethimes i get lost for a little bit when I am not used to an accent ghghghg. But this was super cool.
A classic ❤Frances McDermot was the police officer, her husband directed the film which got an Oscar or two. It's very sad this movie is based on a true story😢 They really do talk that way up North. Big Swedish influence
