If I had seen this video two hours ago, I'd of been done over an hour ago. Whirlpool doesn't give any instructions on any of this, and so videos like yours are real backsavers (and also save one from getting out the sledgehammer). Thanks!

Thank you for producing this video. I faced the same issue about a decade ago with my Kitchenaid. I pulled the sheet metal cover off the back and traced the problem to the grommet which had clogged up. Removed the grommet and melted the dammed up ice. Problem fixed forever. No need to operate on anything on the inside of the fridge.

Thank you for the video!! It saved me calling someone to take a look at it. Now I'm pretty sure my main issue is the grommet

Thank you. I have a Whirlpool Refrigerator Model WRB322DMBM00 refrigerator. It has a bottom freezer. I need to access the ice maker and couldn't figure out how to remove the upper basket. I called whirlpool and was told we don't have any information on how to remove the upper basket and you need to call a service rep. So in there opinion, if you want to just clean the inside of your freezer, you need to call a service man just to remove the basket. I watch several videos, and you were the only one that told us how to remove the upper basket. Thank you so much !!!!

Thank you very much. This video really helped me. You weren’t kidding when you said the fins bend easily. Remove that back panel with extreme caution. I bent several of the upper fins. Did my best to fix them. That part wasn’t easy. Explaining how all the tabs worked was huge! Thanks again.

Curious, what is it draining to exactly? I don't understand having an 'open' system like this. It's not like I have a drain line. Won't the drip tray get full again?

The instructions in the video were spot on. I ordered the upgraded P-Trap from you and replaced it in under 30 minutes. Followed the instructions in the video to get at the clogged drain and used a hair dryer to melt the ice jam. Took me about 90 minutes to remove everything, melt the ice, and put it all back together. Not a bad job. Thank you.

You are The Man! This was exactly my problem and, by following your instructions, I solved it very easily. My problem was not only the formation of ice at the bottom of the freezer, but also in the ice-cube drawer. I am confident that both problems will be resolved after having unclogged the grommet. Many thanks!

So thankful for the help. I went through it twice. I should have removed the back panel off the rear of the fridge and run a wire or drill bit up thru the drain pipe to clear. Didn't do it so had to do again by removing ice like the video shows then boring out the drain from the back side of the fridge. Hey I'm 77 and if I can do it you can too.

Thank you for the video. Excellent instructions. They don't make refrigerators like they use to. I've had this Whirlpool for 3 years. I have to vaccuum out the dust under the fridge every 4 months to keep the compressor from overheating (like our last one), and now this happens. I've done more maintenance on this refrigerator than I've ever done on any appliance my entire life. Garbage design.

As others have said, thank you so much for such a super helpful video. Getting that upper shelving unit off (popping the wheel/gear assembly up first) was completely unintuitive and I certainly would have broken something, had it not been for your video.
    Thank you again!

Great instructional video, I removed the grommet and cleaned it with dish soap and water and a small brush. It removed all the sticky gunk. I was not able to remove the top drawer in the freezer so I improvised. I place a hair dryer against the vents on the back wall and melted all the ice behind the wall. I also slid a paper towel in between the panels which absorbed the water. So far it has worked very well and should be a fix until the replacement P trap kit arrives.

Thank you for this video. I did this fix today on our Whirlpool Gold fridge. Everything was exactly as it was in the video. Took a daunting task and made it straightforward and easy enough for me to do myself. You saved me money, and in the process, I learned how the fridge was built. We had this exact problem with our Whirlpool refrigerator and by following your instructions I was able to fix the problem myself. I turned the freezer off using the controls inside the fridge first. I figured I didn't want the freezer trying to chill the warm water I was using to melt the ice. Took me 3 hrs, but I finally did it! I kept getting a "door ajar" alarm on after we were finished. The LED lights inside wouldn't come on nor would the ice/water dispenser work. Come to find out, the electric clip on the back that hooks up to the water pump was flipped the wrong way. Unfortunately it slides on either way so you have to remember which side is correct before you remove it.
Thanks Appliance Video! Your customer service dept. was very helpful and spot on. No problems whatsoever!.. I highly recommend using them. Saved a bunch of $ and everything fit perfectly! So glad b/c my freezer has been leaking for over a year. I just hope it works permanently. = )

For anyone doing this, please note that there could be a ton of ice accumulated in the silver tray under the fins; and even it will require quite a bit of hot water to melt it all. I only changed the drain pipe thinking that the issue would go away. NO!! I had to do what this video shows to melt all the ice. I even had a huge block of ice on the right side on top of the fins.

It was encased with ice. Took a few hours to melt, clean up, dry, but it works like a champ! Thanks for video, really helped me fix my issue. My issue was little different. My leak was coming from rubber tube that feeds the icemaker had frozen ice plugging it. So when the ice maker tried to water into icemaker the pressure in the line behind the refrigerator leaked. I had to do the same disassembly to get to the rubber tube and defrost the ice in it. I might have been able to do it all from the back by feeding hot water into the tube but not sure that would have worked or not. In any case this worked and we were able to do major clean out too! Thanks again!

I did this fix yesterday, even though there is a new Trap piece to install instead of the grommet this part is still deicing process is still necessary. The 'drain' for the defrosted liquid was frozen over and needed to be melted. Squeeze a hot baster of water back and forth over the drain hole until it clears. Good luck.

Thanks for showing how to get the door and back panel off. My fridge was a GE model, which was slightly different. I used a hair dryer, melted solid ice that was on the coil, not much water as I used a screwdriver to move the ice off the coil then flipped it out into the opening, picked it up and put it in a bowl, then dumped in sink or outside. Then used the hair dryer to blow air through the channel going into the top fridge cabin.

Thanks for the video. My Kitchenaid model(whirlpool family) looks much the same. I defrosted my one-year old refrigerator to thaw out the freezer, but NOW I know how to remove all the freezer parts. My model has drain holes under the deli drawer that I poured hot water into to thaw out the drain tube and freezer drain pan. I haven't replaced the grommet "duck bill," yet, but saw it when I removed the back panel to check the bottom drain pan. I will try to order a new grommet for my Kbfs25ewms.

I did this but with one main difference. Without removing the inside back panel, I used a hair dryer aimed around the center of the grilled section inside the rear of the freezer where the drain is located. Once I melted that area to where I could hear it draining out, I just allowed future defrosting cycles to finish the job. Worked perfect

Thanks for this great video. I watched it a couple of times and it took about 2 hours to complete the job. Can't say how much this saved me. If you take your time it is quite a simple job. Great Help!!!!!!!!!

Thank you! Only broke one plastic and stripped two screws (even with drill clutch set to minimum torque).
Btw I think I found a simple way to reset fins at corners: run finger gently but firmly and smoothly along corners first in one direction, then the other, and even pitch is reset.

This Kenmore bottom freezer fix with the new P trap kit was awesome. Thanks soooo much. FOLLOW UP ISSUE: After I plugged the refrigerator back in it produced a couple of batches of cubes but then stopped altogether. I have a water dispenser on the inside left wall of the refrigerator and it works fine. I ran the water for two minutes per the manual to remove any air in the line. I am at a loss. :( The unit is just over a year old.

Did you have ice forming in yours? Ours is only 14 months old and it is forming ice crystals on the left side and bottom of drawer and on the pullout drawer. Appreciate your input.
