Thank you so much for saving me $2600 , we went to Lowe’s today to buy a new refrigerator but the prices were to high , when I back home I found your video , it’s took me one hour to do all the work , and now it works perfectly, I’m really appreciate sir .
For 5 years now I have been battling this freezer... every few WEEKS having to disassemble & thaw only to have water on the floor again a few weeks later. It was starting to ruin my cabinets, floors, and baseboards. I never knew about the rubber drain in the back until I saw this video and sure enough it was clogged with gunk. I was seriously about to drop $3k on a new fridge but now it's FIXED!! It's really FIXED!! Thanks so much!
Hoorah ! Thankyou! Just saved marriage & fixed Refrigerator! Wife n ifussing over who was dropping ice and not picking up - ugh 😩 I decided check RUclips for other than control map and war coverage! Thank You Very Much kind sir 😊
Thank you so much for this video! I’ve been trying to get my husband to fix our freezer for 3 damn years. I finally had enough! I found your video and did it myself.
Thank you so much for your detailed video. Our Maytag model is quite a bit older, but your walk-through here helped us identify similar parts and clear up the clog and frozen drain overflow issue we suddenly started having. TRULY appreciate you sharing this; it was a real help in a time when we need our freezer to be functioning, and it's difficult to get and pay for a repairmen. You saved the day! Xo
Thanks for this video. Bought this fridge off Facebook marketplace. The fridge was clean when I got it. Brought it home and water started pooling on my floor.. this video was the fix. The hairdryer idea is brilliant. Also, pouring hot water - not quite boiling, worked really well for thawing the drain to the back.
I have the same refrigerator with the same drain/ice problem. Because of these videos I replaced the drain with a drain tube which has a bigger, more rounder tunnel for the water to flow. I bought it from Amazon called a (Drain tube kit) about $15. Now the wife is happy and so am I. Thanks for the video.
Yes! If the tube is accessible from the bottom rear then there's really no need to disassemble the stuff in the front. Might need some defrost time but why do all the extra work?
Working on this right now. Huge chunk of ice in upper right hand side of freezer compartment after I pulled everything apart. Video instructions are absolutely perfect. Thanks so much.
Hey thank you so much! We had this problem with our Maytag refrigerator that's four years old. We followed these directions and were able to fix it ourselves. Our drain pipe was different, but it was blocked by crud, just like yours! The fix took us about 5 hours, but we stopped several times to rewatch the video and took a couple of short breaks. We can't thank you enough!
This is by FAR the most helpful video that I have seen! The lighting you used gave clear, bright pictures so it was easy to find things on MY refrigerator. My husband just had surgery, so it was basically up to me to deal with it. Being kinda handy, I thought that I'd google "Remedy for Ice On Floor of Whirlpool Freezer" and your video came up! After watching it twice, I told my hubby, "I got this". He half-heartedly believed me, knowing full well that we'd be contacting a repairman by sundown. 😉. Turns out, I followed your video every step of the way and I DID IT and ALL BY MYSELF!!!!! 😄. Thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge with people like me, it saved us a lot of money and it even put a little spring in my step! Thank you!
You saved us!!! We had the exact problem and followed every detail you provided. Gunk came out of the nipple: YUK. Clog gone, defrosting drain pipe now. Excellent video!!! Thank You
Apparently, this a common problem with this particular Maytag refrigerator. I’ve had so much water damage underneath that it has destroyed my hardwood floor and subfloor! I wished I found your video sooner. Thanks for the information.
Its a problem for whirlpool also, had the same issue and just replaced the same part, but whirlpool doesn't show the grommet/duckbill as a part replacement only the tubing..fingers crossed.
Thank you so much! Thank you for your great video! This has been a big help! Thanks to your video this problem, that has persisted for well over a year, has been fixed!!! Not only was the molded catch tray completely iced over with about half an inch of ice, and down into the drain funnel, but the sheet metal shroud along the bottom was down into that tray, right to the floor of it. And since metal gets very cold, I'm sure the water would freeze before it could reach the drain hole. The ice was so thick, that at first I couldn't see the drain hole at all. No more towel rolled up in front of the fridge! Yay!!!! And to think I was going to buy a new fridge.
The same thing happened to me! I carefully melted the ice by pouring a little bit of hot water over one end of the ice, melted it enough to carefully get a plastic spatula underneath it and it popped up in one HUGE sheet! 😳. I thought that it was "fixed".....until it happened two more times. Only after watching this video did I even REALIZE that there was a drain hole underneath the thick layer of ice underneath the coils! I am soooo thankful for the gentleman (and his "boss") that took the time to make this extremely helpful video!!
Cleaning that bottom freezer is a lot of work for the many screws and items to remove. On top of that, it forces the person to bend down to see that little room way under for repair and cleaning. It's not convenient placement, it's better on top. You did a great job!
It's not easy, I just put a large cookie pan at the bottom of my freezer and took a hammer to the ice, I can get my arm in enough to rake out most of the ice into the pan and used the hammer for a little more reach on both side of mine...they should make it easier to disassemble the drawers and stuff, but I never did take mine apart...mine would freeze up like this about every 1-2 months...so it definitely got old beating that ice out, we replaced the parts...now to see if it works
Thanks! I had a repairman come fix the leak; but, he didn't reinstall the top drawer properly. It was moving side to side. The reinstall at about the 8:54 mark showed what the the seated drawer roller assembly should look like. Went to my freezer and we saw the problem and snapped it in place properly! Cheers!
Perfect instructions, fixed the issue perfectly. One minor note, removing and installing the snap in type freezer trays is easier with the refrigerator doors fully open. Thanks!
Great video! My husband and I just removed the ice and cleared out the dust plug from the rubber end on the drainage hose. Also I finally could clean the drawers properly now thanks to this.
I don’t normally leave comments but thank you for this video. We were wanting to get new floors but my fridge leaks like the one in this video so we wanted to get it fixed before we get the new floors. I looked and sure enough the drain was frozen and dirt and dust was in that rubber nozzle. I made the repair and we can get new floors now. One mistake I did make was I left the hair dryer in one spot too long and it bubbled a small spot on the surface.
Thanks for this great video, especially the steps showing how to take out the sliding drawers. We followed your procedure and the problem is fixed. To melt the ice more quickly, we used hot water applied with a turkey baster instead of a hair dryer.
Ok I a female and had gotten stuck because I was afraid to take the back off ( which I did ) I had no clue what to do after . I am so glad I found your video !!!!!! Thank you 🙏🏼
Excellent!!! Our refrigerator has been leaking about 4 of the past 7 years and assumed the drinking water line. The water leaks have really messed up our wood floor. I removed the b line from the saddle valve and capped it off. But now I know what to look for!
Thank you so much for this video! We replaced our drain line two days ago, but then were still having ice accumulate inside. Came across your video and BAM, we solved the problem. Thank you so much!
Just fixed my maytag with your video as reference. THANK YOU! We had water on the floor from time to time but it was bad today as to dripping in the basement. This was great and saved a house call with who knows how much it would have cost. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!
Hey, thanks, youse two. I needed to make this fix on my fridge and it went pretty much like yours did. I used a blow-dryer to melt the ice around the drain on the inside, and then poured warm water through to melt the rest. Once that ice was melted, the water came flowing through like a river. I put a new drain tube in, but I didn't really need to, the previous one had a bunch of gunk in it that I was able to blow out and clear. I guess I have a spare now. Thanks for your help - this video helped a lot.
This actually a very common problem and nearly 99.9% of the symptom of poor drainage is clogged port... thanks for sharing this particular model repair...
Absolutely. I don't get how so many people have 25+ year old refrigerators but a modern company can't get theirs to last without maintenance. Kind of crazy.
Thank you SO VERY MUCH! Your video was great; Detailed and informative! My rubber nipple on the end of the drain also had a piece of lint very similar to yours and no other dirt or gunk to speak of. Could that have been placed in there intentionally to slow down the flow into the funnel/trough? I removed mine the same as you did to prevent it from causing any backlog of water to freeze up in the pipe. I found that about an hour of natural thawing combined with a cup of really not (not boiling) tap water flushed the ice out in no time! I used a couple more (one at a time) cups of hot water to ensure the ice was completely cleared out once it was draining and then shop-vac'd out the water from the drip tray to keep if from having to evaporate all that water. Thanks again! This was crucial to my getting it done, as I had asked around and nobody else mentioned opening the back to see what was going on and access the tail end of the drain! LOVE the video!
Wonderful video, Thanks! Do the same on my parents 46 year old Sears Coldspot fridge. That thing is built like a tank just like our Kenmore dryer from 1969- still running! Fridge needed a new defrost heater rod. Recommend while you have the unit open to oil the fan shafts in the freezer rear and in the back where they enter the bearings. Will keep them running for years and make the manufacturers frown 😀
Nice comprehensive instructional video. I just finished the job and I enjoyed it! The most time consuming part of the job was melting the ice build up from the rear panel prior to removal, and more from the condensing coils and from the bottom of the freezer. I will know if there is more to it over the next few days, but so far it looks like the problem has melted away. Thank you.
Thanks a bunch. Been dealing with the water leak for a while. FYI, don't do what I did and keep the hair dryer too close too long and bubble the plastic pan.
This was such a helpful video! It most likely saved me a couple hundred dollars, thanks for sharing, as long as you have the time and are willing to follow some directions just about anyone should be able to handle this simple task!
THANK YOU for this video! I have a Kitchen Aid model, which is very much related to this one. I found the same issues, clogged rubber cap below and frozen solid drain in the freezer itself. Except for removing the freezer drawers everything else in this video was identical. I'm sure this would have been a $300-$400 repair visit.
Great video, thanks! I have this exact issue with my 10 year old unit. It was just iced up and needed a defrost after 5 or so years, but now, 10 years later, the defrost alone didn't fix it, so I'm having to go in. Your video was super helpful.
Turned out the rubber nipple was... mold-oozed shut? I guess that's what caused the line to freeze up. It was really frozen, I had it open and defrosting all day and it still was the last thing to thaw. Finally I took it all apart like you and dumped hot water in the back.
@@retrotechandelectronics Yes, thanks! I did remove it and clean it. Since all the food ended up in coolers I also gave the fridge a much needed deep cleaning as well.
Thank you!!! Followed your instructions and hopefully problem solved- totally froze up worse than yours now defrosted and flowing into pan. Thanks again.
Hi. I’m having the same problem with my freezer. When I look in the back, the drain tube is completely different. Do you have any suggestions. Your video has been the most informative out of all the videos I’ve seen. Thank you
thanks Jordan, we have an older Maytag that has done the same thing for years. Hub just ran a wire down the drain tube and so much stuff came out, now clear
Thanks for the video, I was about to call a repair guy but will be able to tackle this issue myself with confidence now that I know what to look for and repair.
Perfect video for me. Saw similar videos but none went to extra little details like lint removal from drain pipe. One question. You have used hair dryer to remove excess ice. Is it safe to do it.
Thanks! This was the best video I seen on this issue. I didn’t take the back freezer panel off, I just removed the rear panel of the fridge to unplug that rubber piece. Thanks again, you saved my marriage. Nice rifle btw.
This is not the first time i've been accused of saving a marriage. Its true that if the back is cleared out (the pipe) and yo can allow the system to completely defrost you can forgo the removal of the inner back panel. Thats if you have a place to keep all of the food for several hours.
THANKS! exact same problem here! same brand, different model. I also tried pouring boiling water little at a time into the drain hole. worked like a charm!
Well, 9 months later I’m doing this job again but this time on the fridge at our vacation place. Luckily it’s 29 degrees and all the food is outside. Do any of you have the part number for the improved drain?
Thank you for your video. My refrigerator has this problem. I am always removing the sheet of ice from the bottom inside of the freezer. My ice maker and water dispenser are also not working. Do you think these two issues could be related and if I fix the water leaking from the bottom of the refrigerator, do you think that will fix the ice maker and water dispenser?
Saved a refrigerator! Curiosity though, is that rubber nozzle underneath necessary? Seems like a bottleneck where things can get trapped and cause this issue.
Am I Wrong to say that you needn't have done Any disassembly of the interior of the fridge? Another video showed ALL the work in the back with the black drainage plug with a cleanup of that plug. That will be what I Will try first. But Thanks for your experience.
If the water backs up to the coils the whole rear section ices over, it could take several hours to thaw. I suppose if you have a second fridge to store all of you food and freezer goods and can afford the down time you could forego going in the front to melt the massive ice accumulation. If not, well, then you aren't getting through that from the back.
It would be a GREAT help if someone can tell me if there is a video for this same procedure on a side by side frig. I have one that has the same problem but I don't know how to get into the frozen coils. Thanks for sharing this.............
Thank you for this video! For the life of me I couldn’t figure out how to remove the top drawer. What exactly did you pop on the side to release it? I unscrewed the screws and couldn’t get the top drawer to release itself
They have a fix for this problem. it is not normal for this to happen. It is, in my opinion, a defect in design. The whirlpool people agree and they offer the fix. It replaces the rubber nipple and the funnel with a "U" style drain that creates a water block so warm air can not enter the freezer.
Thank you so much for saving me $2600 , we went to Lowe’s today to buy a new refrigerator but the prices were to high , when I back home I found your video , it’s took me one hour to do all the work , and now it works perfectly, I’m really appreciate sir .

Glad to help!

Yes! If the tube is accessible from the bottom rear then there's really no need to disassemble the stuff in the front. Might need some defrost time but why do all the extra work?
Your video is still helping people 3 years later! Thank you. Also love the flintlock ending!
That fridge is still kicking.
Working on this right now. Huge chunk of ice in upper right hand side of freezer compartment after I pulled everything apart. Video instructions are absolutely perfect. Thanks so much.
Freezer drain nipple was full of debris which was mostly dog hair. 5 animals in the house and I'm surprised it wasn't worse.
Dont forget to vacuum out everything in the fins for more efficient operation.

Thank you so much for this video! Have been breaking ice for years in my freezer and now i've finally managed to fix it!
Glad to hear it!
Thanks for the informative video - same problem - fixed now 😎
I had the exact same problem and your video fixed it up. 4 months and no more leakage.
Great to hear, mine has held fine since ive made this video.
This actually a very common problem and nearly 99.9% of the symptom of poor drainage is clogged port... thanks for sharing this particular model repair...
I also find that a regular vacuuming i do under the fridge every six months does wonders
Thanks for the video. Just cleaned out the frozen drain hole and saved a couple hundred bucks. Very helpful.
Glad it helped
The fact that this has 100,000+ views is VERY telling.
One would hope they would have fixed it by now...... right?
Absolutely. I don't get how so many people have 25+ year old refrigerators but a modern company can't get theirs to last without maintenance. Kind of crazy.
Modern in engineering, as obviously Whirlpool/Maytag has been around for a while :-)
Thanks for your expert demo and advice -- we just repaired our fridge with your help!
Glad it helped!
Perfect walk thru! Probably saved me a few hundred $ doing it myself with your very well made how-to.
Thank you SO VERY MUCH! Your video was great; Detailed and informative! My rubber nipple on the end of the drain also had a piece of lint very similar to yours and no other dirt or gunk to speak of. This video is AMAZING! Will do this tonight after it defrosts. Thank you for saving me hours and potentially hundreds of dollars.
Glad it was helpful!
Just fixed my Maytag fridge with the exact problem you outlined here. Thank you for the video. Made fixing a breeze.
Glad I could help!
This just saved me a few hundred! I watched and found the exact problem! It took a little less than 2 hrs! Thank you so much!
You’re welcome, glad to help!
Don’t worry, it will eventually happen again.
Hmmm, I should check to see if they use a polyester material to suspend the oil...

Thank you so much for this video! Perfect explanation of everything. I was able to do the whole process myself by watching your video!
Glad it helped!
This was not my model fridge, but this video was still really helpful, well filmed, and well explained. Thank you!
You're welcome.
Thanks a bunch. Been dealing with the water leak for a while. FYI, don't do what I did and keep the hair dryer too close too long and bubble the plastic pan.
Yes, you definitely want to avoid melting anything but the ice.
This was such a helpful video! It most likely saved me a couple hundred dollars, thanks for sharing, as long as you have the time and are willing to follow some directions just about anyone should be able to handle this simple task!
Glad it helped!
This video was awesome. Just enough information. Not too little and not too much. Thank you for making video. 100% solved my issue.
Great to hear!
Thank you so much. Your video has saved our food last night. Many thanks again.
Glad I could help!
Great step by step video. My mom's fridge has this issue. I know exactly what I need to do.
Thanks so much
Glad it was helpful!

Thank you, We just thawed ours out and cleared the line, here's hoping it will be good for a while.
It should be, check it when you clean out the back of the fridge every year or so.
Great video, thanks! I have this exact issue with my 10 year old unit. It was just iced up and needed a defrost after 5 or so years, but now, 10 years later, the defrost alone didn't fix it, so I'm having to go in. Your video was super helpful.

Glad it helped
Im guessing that fixed it, that part can be removed and cleaned.
Glad to hear.
Hi. I’m having the same problem with my freezer. When I look in the back, the drain tube is completely different. Do you have any suggestions. Your video has been the most informative out of all the videos I’ve seen. Thank you

Perfect video for me. Saw similar videos but none went to extra little details like lint removal from drain pipe. One question. You have used hair dryer to remove excess ice. Is it safe to do it.
Thank you for this video! I have the same maytag with this issue. I followed your video instructions and problem solved!
Great to hear.
This video helped me resolve an irritating problem on a Maytag though different model. Thanks so much!
Glad to help!
My Maytag was a different year, but your video was Spot On. THANY YOU VERY MUCH. 🙂❤👍
Glad I could help.
Just saved me calling a repair man Thank you!!!
Great to hear!
Great video, thank you SO much! We have just developed this problem. I'm going to get on this tonight.
Outstanding. Great to hear.
This was exactly my issue and saved an expensive service visit. TY
Glad to help.
We put a hair dryer in the freezer drawer and ran it on low. Food is outside where it’s 15 degrees. Prior Navy myself.
These techs know their stuff. Good!
Thanx!
Thank You So Much!!!
I'll be following your very clear directions myself very soon. Great Job by you and the Boss. A+++
You're very welcome!
THANKS! exact same problem here! same brand, different model. I also tried pouring boiling water little at a time into the drain hole. worked like a charm!
Glad it helped
This is going to be extremely helpful when I attempt to do this tonight. Thank you!!
Good luck, let us know how it turns out
Thank you so much for this video! This solved the problem with my Maytag refrigerator. You rock! Excellent detail and explanation!
Glad I could help
Well, 9 months later I’m doing this job again but this time on the fridge at our vacation place. Luckily it’s 29 degrees and all the food is outside. Do any of you have the part number for the improved drain?
Thanks for the video! Just did had to do this tonight. Excellent walkthrough!
Glad it helped!
I'm 2 months late. Did this work? I'm not sure I'm capable of doing this, and don't want to begin if this didn't work for someone lol
This solved our problem! Thanks for the clear instructions.
Great to hear!
THANK YOU! Saved my sanity with this video.
Glad it helped!
Thank you very much for this video, very clear & simple
Glad it was helpful!
I could not say.... But the leak on the bottom would be a good start.
This was exactly the problem with mine. All fixed now.
Thank you!!!
Glad it helped
Awesome video man! My Maytag was doing the exact same thing.
Did it work?
Saved a refrigerator! Curiosity though, is that rubber nozzle underneath necessary? Seems like a bottleneck where things can get trapped and cause this issue.
Without the nozzle colder denser air can escape out. It should be there, just inspected regularly

Spot on! This video was perfect! It helped me fix my leaking fridge.
Great to hear!

Thank you. Your fix was perfect and made the job go very easy.
Glad I could help
Very helpfull I will be trying in the morning feeling confident Thank You!
You're welcome.
Very helpful just fixed my leaky freezer!!
Thanks
Glad it helped!
Teamwork makes the dream work
Its still goin!!!

thank you for this video. i will try this tomorrow 👍👍👍
It would be a GREAT help if someone can tell me if there is a video for this same procedure on a side by side frig. I have one that has the same problem but I don't know how to get into the frozen coils. Thanks for sharing this.............
Thanks! I was facing this exact issue and this video saved me a lot of trouble.
You're welcome!
You are the man!!!!! Thank You soooooooo much!!!!
Thank you so much. Great video! Helped me so much.
You're welcome!
This was exactly what I had to do. Thanks for the video!!
Glad it helped!
Thank you for this video! For the life of me I couldn’t figure out how to remove the top drawer. What exactly did you pop on the side to release it? I unscrewed the screws and couldn’t get the top drawer to release itself
The little latch is a bit tricky.
Mine has had this problem from almost day one, we haven't tried this repair yet, but going to.
Good luck.
Here’s the upgraded part. Whirlpool W10619951 Drain Tube
That should make it so you dont have to do this again. Original design is flawed. Once clogged and iced, no turning back. You have to defrost.
They have a fix for this problem. it is not normal for this to happen. It is, in my opinion, a defect in design. The whirlpool people agree and they offer the fix. It replaces the rubber nipple and the funnel with a "U" style drain that creates a water block so warm air can not enter the freezer.
Do you call whirlpool 800 line for the fix?
You guys just saved my Christmas!
Merry Christmas!
