So glad to see Billy Talent in this list! You could literally fill every single spot in it with Ian D'Sa riffs, like This Suffering, Viking Death March, Ghost Ship of Cannibal Rats, Forgiveness 1+2, Saint Veronika... And the list goes on
Oh SNAP! I’ve just been playing guitar for decades & finally decided to explore drop D. Picked half a dozen of these & nailed them. I especially got a blast from Kashmir, which I usually play in the original DADGAD tuning. This is the most fun I’ve had on guitar for months & months. Thanks Mr. A little Dosh for you’re effort. It’s not much, but what I can afford right now. You’re F***in Awsome!.. which is an awesome song by Australian band Spider Bait. Their cover of Black Betty is wicked too. Cheers. 👏🎸🇦🇺

@@PaulNelson156 you crazy? You don't need multiple guitars to just change from drop down to d standard 🤣. That's hardly a change at all, maybe if you dropped down to like C standard, where your gunna need heavier gauge strings, it makes a difference yeah, but not if you just wanna change like a half step or whole step occasionally, I actually do have multiple guitars for this though, but only because I like 1 in standard and 1 drop C
I love this tuning, if a riff sounds heavy with it it’s definitely gold Its really groovy too but not excessively heavy which makes it just nasty nasty

@@gredangeo I was going to say that it's in C#. The tuning configuration is obviously the same though. I guess that's why we're also denied a bit of Unchained by VH

Great tone and technique. Some other great drop D riffage is from the first we came as romans album "to plant a seed". Equal vision records are terrible with copyright removals though for uploads but that album is fun to learn and play.
Kashmir isn't in Drop D. It's in DADGAD. "OH, SAM, YOU'RE BEING PICKY! WE CAN PLAY THE MAIN RIFF WHILE TUNED TO DROP D!" I'm absolutely being picky, but I'm also correct. There is a verse section where Jimmy Page plays: Dsus4, D, Dm7, Am/D, D5, Dmaj7, D7sus4, Gadd9, A#maj7, and Dm. Without the proper tuning, you won't be able to use the same chord shapes Page does.
It's not. Very common mistake, but if you ever see a video of Metallica playing it live you'll note that they're clearly in D standard tuning based on how they're fingering the chords.
I always feel like it's a crime when I see a Drop D riff list and there is no Helmet to be found. Anytime I;m in Drop D, all I want to do is play Helmet riffs.
Drop D gives any guitar such a grungy swagger. I'll toss in "Hell March" by Frank Klepacki into the suggestion box. [edit] Aw crap, someone mentioned Pantera. You gotta have "Primal Concrete Sledge" if you go with Pantera.
Sorry to be that guy, but when you play Omerta, when you hit the 5th, 4th and 7th fret, you're supposed to be playing the d string open, you can stay on the 8th fret of the drop D string and pick the D then A string in succession after hitting the 7th fret, but it's commonly played on the first and open fret, and then 11th fret to 15th and while it is literally the same notes, you need the open D to maintain the dissonance of the song structure. And for Kashmir, it's not a Drop D song, it's played in DADGAD tuning, and again for the main riff, it doesn't make a tremendous difference, but it alters the feeling of the song, and if people are trying to play the entire song, later they're going to be scratching their heads wondering why it sounds like crap.
He’d have to tell ya for sure, but I’m pretty sure he makes them. Drums sound the same throughout, which tells me he used samples or a plug in. He kills it for sure.
@@ratt2207 That's usually what happens when people transcribe from standard to drop to be easier to play without tuning the whole guitar. I play some Opeth songs in drop D so I don't have to tune to open Dm.

@@KevinBalke new album!!? I have plans for tonight so it seems
They’re from my hometown. I’ve been a fan of the band and Ian’s playing for many years. Great band.
Billy talent being on this list was such a pleasant surprise, Ian D'Sa does not get the credit he deserves for his incredible guitar playing.
So glad "Outshined" made this list. I have started playing in Drop D tuning because of that song.
Probably could have included a few more Soundgarden riff - Spoonman is much more interesting riff than a lot of the riffs on here.

every Tool song
Damn near every Volbeat song too, but they weren't on the list 😥

The Thing that should not Be isn't in Drop D, it's in D Standard Tuning.
Same thing got me with sad but true. Loved playing that riff in drop d.

Alice In Chains - Dam That River;
Soundgarden - Spoonman
Dam That River is in Drop C# though.

Pure Massacre should definitely be on this list. Madman, too.
It’s blasphemous

Kings X has a lot of great drop 'D' and drop 'C'' riffs
