I have an ez up canopy which is a bit more hardy. My ezup came with sidewalls that velcro to the upper canopy and zip to each other making a nice barrier to the wind.. Plus i have water proofed the canopy with marine grade waterproofing…not for camping but doing art fairs. It becomes a nice insert to camp inside my show canopy. I also use my homemade weight system when i have it up, 40-60 pounds per leg cause those stakes are not not going to keep it from sailing away in a Florida afternoon squall.
I have had this same canopy for a couple of years, was recently about to buy the tent to try with it for a quick, roomy setup on cub scout camping trips. Noticed the same issue you describe with the push-pole. While I was researching it, I came across some other (older?) versions of the canopy that don't use the push-pole, so I assume tent was never updated to work correctly with the canopy despite them still stating they are compatible. I deiced against this one, but did find a couple canopy-conversion tents with a flat inner roof that would probably work. In the end, I opted to spend a little more and get the Core 10-person cabin tent with full-body rainfly instead, not the quick setup I initially wanted but, I was also in the market for something that would hold heat in better for colder weather. I froze my wife out last the year prior in a Coleman Weathermaster 10, love this tent and it breathing well in summer, but it froze my family out in 40-45 degree fall weather.
That makes a lot more sense, i was a bit perplexed by the whole setup and just had to make it work. Probably a wise choice going for the pricier version that will likely work better and last longer!
Had no problems with mine Homever, I use it for the kitchen area. Ue a 10 person Ozark tent for sleeping. I stake down the lining of the canopy tent for high winds. As for the top middle pole, I let the middle lining Droop under it to prevent poking a hole. Tarp for addition support is a good Idea. You can also purchase aouple of Ozark side walls.Sy=takes you have are great. Canopy weights on each legs will work as well for additional support.
Well, there is good news now. The 6-person connectent W604.1 model has a zipper in the peak, for those who have the canopy with the push up handle. No need to cut a hole. and the zipper closes pretty close around the push up handle. Not perfect but much improved. And no, I do NOT camp in that kind of cold anymore. Grandkids love love the tent.
Have this tent and have done 6-9degree camping with high winds/gusts as well as snow. If there is any chance of precipitation I use a big 20x20 tarp to throw over it to waterproof the top and protect the sides. The tarp is also great for winter camping to keep heat in top of tent from buddy heater. Surprisingly it's held up, but 50mph+ winds definitely get nerve wracking.
So i have a patio heater that runs on a BBQ lp tank. It has the Cousin Eddie sled top on it. That fits perfectly in my eazy up. There is plenty of room on the top, so nothing melts. And with walls at 15*F and wind, it will maintain 75 inside. That is with just a large tarp wrapped around and not the "official" side walls.
honest opinion, rain? camping in midwest, spring time. looking for a versatile set up this set up seems like a good choice. but rain is a huge factor. appreciate your video!
I was able to set it up by not connecting all the top 4 connectors. I hooked 2 of them to the handle and it’s working fine. I will however, get the rivet at top of handle replaced with a screw so that I can remove it and set up normally…. :)
I am wanting to buy this tent but I keep reading reviews about the rain pouring in through the top.One reviewer said the rain comes through the flaps at the top. Not sure what he meant by that. How do you think this would hold up in the rain and if it would come in through the top mesh, do you think there would be a way to insert a tarp between the top of the tent and the canopy ?
Lol lol why didn't you buy a different style of Ozark Trail canopy, rather than cut your tent?? Walmart sells several models. Oh well, to each, his own. I have the same tent. I cut some tarp triangles and used Velcro to attach them to the roof of the tent.
Excellent idea ! I thought of making a pyramid shaped cap of a breathable blanket material or possibly"Reflectix" double bubble wrap and attaching that somehow. Since I don't have the tent, I can't work out the logistics myself. This is where videos , such as this; are extremely helpful. 0N the canopy, please N0TE; some models are only designed to produce shade, while other are described as water repellent as well. I think I'd want as smooth a material as I could get for the canopy to help snow to slide off. These get expensive !
Can't beat Chinese quality. That's where all the best stuff comes from. I've heard "Made in China" more times than I can count in just the last couple of days. What I have NOT heard is "Made in the U.S.A".

You brought the wrong canopy to go with it. You bought the push-up canopy with a pole in the middle. And you were supposed to buy the instant canopy. Two totally different canopies. So there is no design. It was buyer flaw 🫣😁
I have this tent and didn't run into this issue with the canopy I purchased. It took me a while to find the right one. Thanks for sharing.

My design concern would be the sides not having any support, so I feel like any wind is just going to blow the winds in and out, in and out
In your opinion, how would that tent do in the fall with temps around 30 to 40 degrees?
How does this hold up with rain? The flooring edges add not tub style.
Doesn’t wind travel in from the screen ceiling??

Traction boards to wipe your feet. You know what she told me ? She said "you just think they look cool"
This won’t get the job done in downpours material is bottom of the barrel but that’s to be expected from ozark trail . Fair weather use only

Mine literally says “instant canopy” and it still has the pole. Just went back to check my receipt lol yup it says instant canopy
