    Very good review, and comprehensive. I have had a CT100 for several years, and had not noticed the phantom power indicators. Thanks.

    Probably one of the better review videos on this product. Even better than Behringer itself. Was actually hoping to see the connnect to device for test tone. Nonetheless, a very sound demo.

    Thanks! I have a good meter, normally use a meter but as I get older keeping meter leads on xlr pins gets harder and harder. And this does pretty much everything and the tone output is icing on the cake! again Thanks!!

    Thank you. Great video. I’ve had this unit for a long time and it has served me well. It is beginning to show signs of improper functionality (lights flashing when they shouldn’t be, and the tone tester is very scratchy sounding). However, I mostly use it for testing. Ask Lars and quarter inch guitar cables so I may stick with it for a few more years. Thank you again.

      Mine is still doing ok, despite lugging it around in my toolbox all the time. But, at the price, it's worth it to replace if it ever dies.

    Behringer aren't known for great quality but at this price point there are no alternatives as I am just looking for a tone generator to use in my home studio.
    Thanks for a nice review !

      I use my tone to check stage lines all the time. But you are right, it doesn't seem like a tone generator would be that expensive but somehow they are. 🤷‍♂️

    I'm looking to purchase one of these and found your overview very helpful; thank you! I'm just curious, when testing for tone; what would a bad tone sound like? Would it just not register a sound through the amp or what exactly?

    • @proclaimav4197
      @proclaimav4197  3 года назад

      You would hear intermittent tone or no tone in most cases, possibly distortion (which could also be caused by a bad amplifier or too much gain.) If things are working properly, then clean strong tone should be the result. 😉

    The grounded shield light will also tell you if a TRS 1/4" is an instrument cable (light) or a speaker cable (no light).

    Can you explain if the test tone only works when "in" is placed in a mixer? When I just test the cables alone using this it doesn't make a tone. Thanks

    • @proclaimav4197
      @proclaimav4197  2 года назад

      Hi Erik. In order for you to hear the tone, you would need a speaker of some kind but the CT-100 does not have a speaker. Tone is really only for testing systems not so much for cable testing. Thanks for watchin'!

    Hi. I just received mine and notice that it makes a rattling sound when you shake the unit, is this normal? Sounds like something is loose inside.

    • @proclaimav4197

      Hmm. Mine does also. I think its the buttons? Doesn't seem to be problem. Never noticed it before. 🤔

    Okay, here's something else you should have made clear here. The test tone heard on the video is coming from whatever amplifier the cable is connected to (which is not pictured) and NOT from the CT100 itself. I'm sitting here with a unit I just got trying to figure out why the test tone does not work. Actually it does. You *feed it* into a mixer or an amp and THEN it can be heard. So all the videographer had to do here for the loud tone was to turn down his amp, but we never even see it.

      Good point, the signal is being sent to an amplified speaker, sorry for the confusion. :)

      @@proclaimav4197 No confusion here- it was completely obvious.

    I have just got one and I take it the unit runs on batteries. But I'm finding the screw to tight to open!
    Is this just me?

      Nope. On the plus side it never comes out accidentally?

    Why do the lights strobe on your tester?

    • @proclaimav4197
      @proclaimav4197  3 года назад +1

      Hey Dewey, great question. It has to do with a mismatch between the frame rate of my camera and the refresh rate of the LEDs. Check out this article. ledlightinginfo.com/why-do-led-lights-flicker-on-video

    Is there a way of checking resistance

    • @proclaimav4197
      @proclaimav4197  2 года назад

      Unfortunately there is not. You will need a Multimeter for that.

    Why are the lights flashing like that? Was the box faulty? On my version they are all solid if it's a good cable?

    • @proclaimav4197
      @proclaimav4197  5 лет назад +7

      Hi Steve, the flashing is only seen on the camera, due a timing difference between the camera frame rate and the cycling of the LED on/off. For a good explanation see www.bhphotovideo.com/explora/video/tips-and-solutions/flicker-free-lights-and-why-they-are-important-you

    Is ct200 better?

    • @proclaimav4197
      @proclaimav4197  Год назад +1

      Personally I like the CT-100 better but the 200 does offer CAT5/6 cable testing and Speakon cable testing as well.
