Yes, a ground tarp and pad would be awesome. The last time I camped with a friend, we dug a shallow trench around our tarp/tent because of possible rain. It was a good thing we did because it rained about 2 inches that night. We stayed dry and warm. Other campers were rolling up their tents and getting into their cars and pickups. It was kind of funny.
I had the same experience. I had a cheap 8x10 tarp from Walmart and ran a ridge line to the ground and staked it then staked the tarp down and dug a trench and it worked perfectly for a spring down pour
Nice demonstration of a tarp tent setup. You can also expand the rear of the shelter by attaching a guy line to the center tab between the pole and the rear stake point and pull it taught over another pole behind the tarp tent or attach it to a tree. This will provide more head room in the rear if you wish. Some brand of tarps come with larger stuff sacks which would allow you to pack a ground sheet and aluminum stakes if you wish. Another option is to purchase a separate stuff sack that's slightly larger to be able to keep your entire tarp setup organized into a single bag.
If you want to avoid having a pole right in the middle of your tarp tent you can also set this up using a ridge line and tying to that peak. An added benefit of this is that you can use the same ridge line to guy out a spot in the back of the tarp tent and give you more room inside. I haven’t ever seen anyone else do this but this is how I set it up every time and it works great even in wind!
Thank you so much! Those two flaps that you fold over can be folded the opposite way and it will close the door most of the way. I hope this helps. If you want me to make a video explaining that, please let me know.
@@jjwoutdoors7740 Thank you for the reply - Following your instruction, I went ahead and built my first Tarp Tent. I can see how the flaps do close down the opening. Not a 100 percent, but using a large Hefty trash bag I have in my kit - I was able to fill in the left over opening nicely. Your info and detailed instruction are greatly appreciated.
Greetings from Somerset England. Great set up and superb mini instructional. I do love tarp camp out, as you say its lightweight and no fuss style means with those few basic bits of kit your ready to go. Brilliant short film JJW. and Peeps. ATVB2U Scott , NEW subscriber
Ya I never liked tents, they fill up with water and attract bugs, I had better luck under tarps or a poncho, I built a little fort and used a cheap shower curtain to completely seal the roof
As they say in the movie industry "never work with kids or animals" they always upstage you. Had to laugh at your little friend. Enjoyed the vid. ATB Cheers from the mountains of NZ 😀😀 PS if you trained yourself to sleep standing up, you could do away with the pole !!
In Crocs and all, reminds me of myself 🤣 You got the name of the Tarp a little jumbled, but good video regardless! BCO makes great gear! I have the same Tarp but in Multicam, and it's been great for 4+ years. Obviously it doesn't like fire, but not much synthetic does.
Oh yeah you have to have Crocs my favorite shoe LOL. Thanks so much for the awesome Comment. That's awesome to know that the Tarp will last a while. Just got the tarp not too long ago. Really excited to use it on my Adventures.
Tarp is fine but you setup on a depression AND next to a hill. A perfect setup for a natural waterbed. Water will just flood on top of the ground sheet they're worthless if your Location is horrible
Yes it is a terrible place I am so glad you realize that. I did mention something in the video but it was very brief. You are the first one to leave that comment. Thanks
I use a hamak and tent a tarp over it keeps me off the ground is comfortable and I can use a camp stove or portable grill for cooking and warmth and the smoke keeps bug's and critters aeay
I agree with you. I went with a 10x10 because it was lighter but a 20x20 is perfect if you have two to three people with you or even you in a big dog. You could also use a 20x20 and not worry about a ground sheet because you can use that as your ground sheet as well.
You still don't have a tent. You don't have a zippered entry/exit for wind, cold, snow, rain and critter protection. Additionally, you have a pole in the center of the tent limiting spatial freedom. My DIY Dyneema 4.77 ounce tent has a loop at the peak of the tent for hanging the tent from above by 8 or more methods for complete interior spatial freedom.
I am showing a way to make one if you done have a tent. This is mainly a multi-purpose tarp is what I'm trying to teach. This is also a good survival way to get out of the elements if you have to.
Love tarp tenting videos. I bought me a 10x13 just to practice tarp tenting setups. Thank you!
Thank you, That is so awesome let me know how it goes.
Easy to follow. Wish I knew this 50 years ago.
Thanks for checking it out and leaving a comment. I'm glad you like it.

Great looking tent
Thank you
Love this guy and his dog!
Thanks
An adorable old friend (the dog)!
Thank you so much!
I love using a tarp. I have a 12x12 and have camped under it close to 100 times. So many options for pitches. Good stuff and keep up the good work.
That's awesome!!! I love using the Tarp as well. Thanks you so much for the comment.
Great video going to do this tomorrow with my grandson
Love the dog
That's awesome let me know how it goes
😊😊😊😊😊😊
Great ideas.
Thank you! 😊
Very cool. This is a great idea for bicycle trips.
Thanks so much. That is a really good idea!

OK thanks for letting me know I will definitely get another video out
@@jjwoutdoors7740 I'll be looking forward to it. Merry Christmas to you my friend.
I've seen this done a few times. However your setup was a lot easier. Great job.
That is so great to hear! Thank you so much.
When you said lets go cut some steaks, I think the dog was hoping for a different kind of steak.
Lol you're probably right!
@@jjwoutdoors7740 I am told if a dog could talk, the first thing they would ask is, "you are not going to eat all of that, are you?'

Good video. Glad to see young folks out and you have a cool little companion.
Thank you so much and yeah he is my little buddy.
I love the outdoors and want to inspire people to get out especially the Young Generation.

Yes it is. I really enjoy using this shelter. Thanks so much for the comment.
Love the setup

Thanks
That’s bad ass brother
Thanks, let me know if there's another shelter setup you want me to do.
Do you have anything on cold weather tent camping and maybe a tent stove build?
last year I made hot tent video witch was amazing. ruclips.net/video/VUShyqPz8QI/видео.html You should definitely do this. I think you will like it.
great video nice and explanatory keep the good work man you are awesome
Thank you for your kind words. I really appreciate it.
Excellent video bud, thanks for a cool setup.
Thank you. let me know if you try it.

I’m literally wearing dark socks and Crocs while watching this video, lol
That's awesome.
Great video!!! love your dog!!! I subscribed😁
Thanks so much!!! I Love that little guy. So glad you joined my RUclips channel.
Subbed. Liked! Thanks man.
Thank you. That's awesome so glad you joined.
you could slice off a length of inner tube for the stick. the center pole sticks better in place.
I didn't think about that. Good idea Thanks
Great video and well done explaining. Quick question, How do you close down the front of the tent in the event of crappy weather?
Thank you so much! Those two flaps that you fold over can be folded the opposite way and it will close the door most of the way. I hope this helps. If you want me to make a video explaining that, please let me know.

Nice structure but the weak point is the largre front opening. Very large and winds shift. I think I would prefer an A-frame. Nice video though.
Yes I agree, but you could also take those flaps and fold then in front vs on the side. That will close the gap a little better.
Should I make a video on that?

Crocs are a necessity.
Yes they are. It's the way to go!!!
Just like that
Yep and ready for action
Add a "bushmen Core-tent lodger" ...and you are fully protected with this setup .... (+ very compact & lightweight)
Thanks I will look into it

Unlike A tent, a tarp is multipurpose.
That's why it's so amazing.

Hammocking is my favorite way to camp.
Dude if you're gonna be walking around in the woods in crocs you need to shift those puppies into 4 wheel drive by putting the heel straps back
I would but that's almost too much power for what I got to do lol 😆
A 20 X 20 might be pretty nice….

oll moskindos and snaks is insind
Yes but keep in mind you can add dirt around the edges to keep them out and close the front door as well. You can also add a net on the front.
