That is a great set up and what is nice about that set up is you go to fully enclosed in a matter of a minute if bad weather comes. I'm sure you already know how to make it fully enclosed so I will spare the details. Great video
Great video. just found you just started following you. I just recently tried that tent design with a Marine Corps individual tarp. Dimensions are a little different and smaller but it did work out it's definitely a one man tent at that point. But it worked fine for me. Yes getting up there in age I tried to carry a lot less than I did before. So I don't need a full-blown tent even if it's small. As far as sleeping out with the mosquitoes when I go to bed I just make sure I'm wrapped up long sleeve shirt sometimes I'll put some gloves on and my boonie hat would I mosquito netting over the top of it and it's worked out okay. Not totally comfortable but never are sleeping out. Fort Meade here representing! 🐊
Great set-up ! I've been wanting to try the one folded with a floor but I need to get a square tarp. Old bones aren't liking the ground anymore but I like to learn new set-ups for the grandkids
Just got thru watching Tim's video which in which both of you did a great job at the cemetery. There is something about sleeping on the ground I don't like, TICKS. Maybe clear the foliage and spray DEET on the perimeter. That is a gorgeous area.
@@FloridaBoyBushcraftSurvival I think I paid 40 for mine yesterday its the same material as the military poncho, I wanted to go more lightweight the more I acquired skills ...I love the versatility of tarps and the easy set up of the hammock..and of course using the tarp as a rain fly over the hammock to block the rain and the wind is just great ..I got my pack weight down to 9 pounds.
Same idea with the cord for measuring. My cord sets the width of my tent so that both ends of my Dyneema DIY tent are quick and simple to set. Less should also mean lower volume which equals lower weight.
Hi: I saw you use a full sized saw. . . on my ultralight excursions . . . I just bring a hacksaw, since it is light and small. I can cut thing, still. including branches.
Great video! I am just wondering what you would think of this idea if one was to use a Coghlins or some other kind of inexpensive bug netting in a tarp shelter like yours, go to the Dollar Tree and purchase a plastic bowl with lid. The size of this bowl would be large enough to go ,over any reasonably sized foraged pole. Ideally the bug netting could be stored in the bowl when not in use, if the netting was to cover majority of the inside of the shelter and has a floor you can use the lid to protect it. The caveat which might disqualify most Dollar tree bowls is that they and their attendant lids must be sturdy enough to resist the pole. I think that the bowl should also have enough of and a sturdy enough lip that you could tie the top of the tarp over it as extra support if it was windy. Thoughts anyone?
@@FloridaBoyBushcraftSurvival Yeah I was kind of designing my own cheap bug net a while back and Walmart had some inexpensive "scarf"material that appeared very fine. My need for it at the time kind of died with a phone call I received in the store so I didn't pull the trigger. I can put buttons back on and that is the extent of my sewing skills. 😯
Looks good. In warm weather, what do you do about ants? In warm weather, they come out at night to forage. If you're in their way, they will let you know.
Nice tarp configuration, LOL CASA de Florida boy! . Do snakes or creepy crawly ever visit you? I wonder if there is a deterrent cinnamon mint machete? LOL you didnt bring anything except MREs and what looks like a cooler probably full of beer?
Always take (cut) the tree to the stump as close the ground as possible. A one or two foot small stump can be a hazard! I know because I have tripped on a couple and also fallen on one, it hurts 🤕
Very nice Matt on the set up why not get a piece of landscape mesh for front door to keep bugs out n ventilation.. just a idea .. I want that tarp but dont do amazon .. its sweet for the price .
Just use a piece of mozzy or midge net (best with the smaller-meshed midge net) to block-off your door, and simply secure the net all around the door with small plastic spring-clips of some sort, mate ........ that's what I do all the time when up in the Scottish Highlands. And the 'tent' configuration you have there is the ONLY one I ever use, because A-frame or whatever set-ups are no use in Scotland because of how quickly the weather can change up in the higher areas. You might go to bed with a beautiful sunset, and 2 hours later be rudely-awakened by a 60mph blizzard!!!!!
hi: I beleive that tents are expensive. I believe a good way to go utralight is to use cheap walmart tarp to make a tent. that way you can get an UL tent for like $10
@@FloridaBoyBushcraftSurvival I camped a few times in South Florida and could not figure out how to beat the heat or the Florida skeeters and chiggers. In spite of all of the hardships of South Florida camping I somehow keep coming back LOL. I think I'd rather be there than here in North Georgia
About 42". You have to experiment a little to get it right. Then I carry a piece of paracord with a knot in it so I can get an accurate measurement in the woods...
I stopped at 1:45 because I would've preferred an already dread branch or tree be used and not a living tree. Not saying you did anything wrong because it's not my place to decide what's right for others. Just not how I do things in my life. Have a great day.
I don't see pee bottles or poop bags on your list. Some times when I wake up at night and too cold to go outside I use pee bottle to pee in. And, to keep from polluting the back yard, or making Grandma mad, I carry poop bag for obvious reason. You probably went back in the house to poop huh?
Thats because it is seldom cold enough when I am FL camping to prevent me from goin outside for a couple of minutes. It would be hard to go back in the house as we were 30 miles out in the woods. Where do you poop when you are in your moms basement?
@@FloridaBoyBushcraftSurvival rule of thumb for bushcrafting. You don't kill living trees, you find dead trees and what not for shelters, fires, ect. You not only killed a tree, you cut down a sappling for a basic one time use. Not cool. Next time look for dead, but not rotten wood to use.

Nicely done. I'd throw some sage in that fire for the mosquitoes. Great setup and thanks for sharing it with us.
Thanks! Interestingly, we did not get any bugs. I got 2 mosquitoes all night which is very unusual for here...
That's the BEST set up of that style tarp I've seen on video! Very good set up. Nice work.
Wow, thanks! It worked well on this trip...
Great job we use to call this general-purpose tent tiny.🐸
