They should have gone for the Earls Court site while it was viable, there's so much room they could have done quite a lot there, like an additional arena for concerts/conventions/NBA/Shopping centre as well as plenty of housing space. Unlike Stamford Bridge, the Earls Court site is actually in Chelsea too.
They have to upgrade Stamford Bridge. You missed the part where they would have to rename the club and not call it Chelsea FC if they moved away, making that impossible. The Chelsea Pitch Owners have that naming ownership clause and own the freehold to the field/pitch. It wouldn't take 5-6 years either if Chelsea moved away to Wembley like Tottenham did, Everton's (a similar size) took 3.5 years.
@@MrSwift-lf2mn Not correct, its nothing to do with stadium naming. CPO set their group up to protect their team moving away from Stamford Bridge. If Chelsea FC play football away from Stamford Bridge they need CPO's permission to keep calling themselves Chelsea FC.
@@vinnyvasquez That's not even nearly accurate. CPO have the free hold to the stadium ONLY. We need to find a new stadium name not club name. The reason the stadium plans broke down under the previous owner, was because he had Visa issues. Other wise, following the impasse we had with CPO, we would have moved stadium by now.
@@MrSwift-lf2mnI’m a CPO and I can tell you we own the freehold of the stadium and the name Chelsea Football Club. Moving away wouldn’t necessarily mean a change of name if they get the percentage of approval needed.
I’m afraid chelsea are stuck they can not move from Stamford Bridge, Chelsea pitch owners are stopping them, they want the best players but are stopping the club making more money from the gates
It's absurd if fans are wanting to move ground forever than temporary. Upgrade is the only options no two ways in it. They need to temporarily moved to London Stadium during the renovation
The location of Stamford Bridge is precisely what makes Chelsea FC so appealing. It is situated in the heart of London's most prestigious area. Why do you think billionaires are so adamant about buying the club in the first place, just like PSG in France?
ive always been happy with the idea of not having a Morden stadium but by doing it stand by stand. Knocking down the shed end and hotels would give the room to build a pretty impressive stand, could put 10,000 seats there and keep the rest and I'll be happy. it'll still look like Stamford Bridge.
We have to remember our fantastic history and build for the future! Up the Chels! I've supported The Blues since 1965! We desperately need a new stadium AND a new centre half!🔵🔵💙💙💙🔵
And a new striker and head coach. I actually watched from the greyhound track in 1955 and climbed a couple of girders in the Shed. Pity the Mears Bros went broke in 1961 and had to sell Jimmy Greaves.Memories!!
Good but I was hoping for something new regardless... There are problems with upgrading with the local council and fire brigade objecting to it in the past to do with how quickly fans can exit the stadium in an emergency. Notwithstanding the acquisition of some of the Fulham Road frontage, several other landowners would have to sell to make it viable. The new stadium, with brick pillars, was supposed to have a pitch beneath ground level to allow the stands to accommodate more fans. This gained approval, since lapsed, from both the fire brigade and council. Given how quickly things are changing I can only imagine a full rebuild to be in Chelsea's mind. As for where they would play I believe two options suit, with Fulham after their own renovation and rebuild and the one they really cherish, Twickenham. The Twickenham option would come with a promise from Chelsea to fund better lighting and other improvements at the home of English rugby. The club is miles behind on match-day revenue and it is beginning to tell. When Crystal Palace redevelops their ground, Chelsea will be behind Arsenal, Tottenham, West Ham and Crystal Place in terms of revenue. Things will become very frayed.
Still doesn’t solve the transport issue. Arsenal had to massively redevelop Drayton Park, which is adjacent to the stadium. Plus I am not sure 60,000 is enough! You cannot get a match day ticket at Arsenal without having words with the building society or your mortgage broker!!!!
You say bigger gates are not sustainable, but we did have the second biggest gate in the country, i think it was 84000, Man City where top with something like 92000., Ive been to Chelsea with a 60000. Gate, if you knocked the hotel down and built a proper end the shed end is a seating joke, miles to. Small and may be anther tier on the MH stand, you would have your 60000 capacity
London has very strict laws and regulations for construction, especially for large projects that impact the local area. Authorities prioritize the interests of local residents, environmental considerations, and the architectural integrity of the area. Many local residents and businesses are against a new stadium, especially if it means increased traffic, noise, or disruption during and after construction. London has strong rules for public consultation, and protests from the local community can delay or block projects. And btw. Stamford Bridge is not directly owned by Chelsea FC but by a fan organization called Chelsea Pitch Owners (CPO). This group owns the rights to the name “Chelsea FC” and the land where the stadium is located. If the club wants to move or build a new stadium, it requires agreement with the CPO, which can be politically and legally complicated. It is a combination of Chelsea’s location in a densely built-up area, strict UK construction regulations and local opposition that makes it difficult to build a new stadium. In summary. Money has never been a problem.
42,000 is just too small.. while Chelsea's is probably the top club in London now, over time, it will start to lose that slowly.. even West Ham boasts over 60k capacity stadium.. and could still go bigger later if they dig the pitch and go lower, as they have ample space now inside the stadium for another tier closer to the pitch.. and Arsenal is already talking about expanding.. so, Chelsea has to take the difficult decision now.. whatever it is, it cannot stay at 42k.

Agree, 60K is a compromise number in 2025, 80K is a futureproof figure.
