Went to a game there 3 weeks ago. The new escalators are awesome, as they get fans into the upper level seats 28.3% faster than the older ramps. Falcon fans hopes to erase the 28.3 mark when their stadium is up for renovation.
Did you know that the same year the Falcons went to their FIRST Super Bowl, there was a band called Liquid Tension Experiment that came out with their first album(self titled) and the last song on that album was called Three Minute Warning that happened to be 28 minutes long?
We’re good at this stuff, the dome renovations are stunning. The interior of the dome now matches the exterior. I’ve been going to Saints games since 1979, love the new feel of the dome and I’m sure anyone visiting will be impressed. We even replaced all of the streets downtown and that has been a loooong time coming. Who Dat!
Hmmmm, maybe it's because these billionaires who have the money to build these stadiums instead push the bill on the local tax payers. So when people complain about hearing a new stadium is being built by a multi billion dollar company like the NFL, that's why.
It shows that when designed properly stadiums can be renovated many times to keep them updated instead of being demolished and replaced (another example is Dodger´s Stadium)
Very proud to be apart of the general contractor’s team to renovate the Superdome. I supervised the install of the 600 level standing room only decks and the escalators from 500 to 600.
Well I have never been inside of superdome however it is probably the most recognizable structure in the United States. Nothing else looks like it so it has definitely maintained its iconic stature.
As a Saints fan who lives out of state, I have gone to six games at the Super Dome: The first game was against the Houston Texans in 2003, the Broncos game in 2016, the Bills and Cowboys games in 2021, and the Broncos and Browns games both just a few weeks ago. Even though my Saints didn’t win all of those games (some of them the Saints didn’t even look very good) I still enjoyed attending those games and my time in the city of New Orleans!
I remember as a kid in the 1980s going to Mid South wrestling at the Superdome to see the Junkyard Dog and Dick Murdoch and damn near 45 years later and Hurricane Katrina it's still standing..SALUTE!!!
These drone shots inside are top notch. Great stuff. I love how the dubstep faded out for like 45 seconds to talk about Katrina out of respect, then right back into the dubstep 😅
I think some of us are forgetting that two things can be true: 1. As a NOLA resident. Yes, we definitely can be ratchet 😂. The mess comes with the territory just like other cites and vacation destinations. 2. We also know how to party, how to cook AND eat, and know how to bring those not from here into our culture in a polite and fun way. Southern hospitality is real thing and I’d argue NOLA has the best.
My top three favorite things I was in attendance for was Tulane's undefeated year in 1998, the Saints return Home to the Dome in 06, and WrestleMaina 30 in 2014.
The Superdome is an amazing feat, went to Saints vs Rams game and Wow it’s a very iconic venue! New Orleans has its issues like everywhere, but New Orleans is an amazing beautiful city!
I noticed the original renderings of the most recent renovations, they had the jumbotron stretch across the entire north and south section almost like a wrap around effect, covering the upper panels, but for some reason they didn't go through with it.
I went to the Saints v Redskins game and yes its very nice and modern now. I've watched about 20 games now and it's a far cry from how it looked in 1983. Now if the staff can learn how to give directions it'd be even better. We were given three wrong directions by 3 people on how to get to the Saints pro shop
I wish they would upgrade the seats. I’ve been in the same seat as long as I can remember. When I look at Katrina photos, the seat cushions are the same color as now in the 200 levels
Having been in this facility many, many times, I'd say they should've doubled the renovation budget. The outside of the facility is clean and beautiful, but the inside is still dated. It's still dark, and the concourse is still a claustrophobic's nightmare. This 50 year old stadium is still functional, but I'd still put it in the bottom 25% of NFL facilities.
Editorial comment @1:22 to @1:42 -- a couple of scenes show B-roll footage of either the Pontiac Silverdome or the RCA Dome, but the narration of those scenes appears to only reference the Superdome.
Since when is 560 million dollars enough for a new stadium these days? I applaud any city that doesn't waste time and too much money on brand new stadium when they have an iconic one already that can be renovated and maintained.
We’re (New Orleans) not a baseball city. We’ve tried with the Zephyrs and a Hockey team called the Brass. Basketball is barley surviving here. Me as a Native I just think we’re a Football city and that’s it.
Been there and tried that. In the 70’s and 80’s multiple businessmen tried but the fan interest was not there. We had a triple a team for over twenty years and the fan interest was spotty. They are now in round rock Texas.
Not enough people living in the metro area to support MLB. New Orleans is confined by lakes and swampland. Google Earth it to see. And there is Zero economy to the south, only water.
Mention the fact that Tom Benson, now gone. That after Hurricane Katrina wanted to move the Saints, have the super dome torn down and build a new one. Talk about wanting to take advantage of a tragedy. For someone whose dependence on his multiply car dealerships. He fought the renovation of the done. So if you’re going to give a history. Give the entire history. My grandfather was one of the leader supervisors on the building of the dome, including several of my uncles. Had it been torn down, that would have been a true tragedies.
This is a bald faced lie. What Benson wanted to do was move the team to San Antonio and had everything in place to make it happen except for the NFL's approval and Paul Tagliabu told him that there was no way in hell he was going to move the team.
@ I’m from New Orleans, I know it for a fact. Then he threatened them with a new stadium. Get your facts, or lack of them correct. Everyone in the area threatened to boycott all of his car dealerships.
@henrycoats2202 he tried to move them to San Antonio, this is a fact. The irony of you telling me to get my facts straight when everything I said can be verified because it's the truth. Benson might've done more than what I said, but I know I'm right.
Season ticket holder since 2006!! Have to admit , $560m upgrades this year and spent $500m about 10 years ago! It’s time to tear this down and rebuild ! It’s literally the same interior since I was a kid going to the super fair ! Let’s not talk about the bathrooms and the lines ! Poorly designed !
The Vegas stadium ? Not impressed look up the video of the glass railings shattering or the crowd crush risks that happen when they force all 60k ppl to leave across a narrow interstate bridge taking them back to the strip
@voiceofreason2674 In the video, the narrator asks why spend $560 million to renovate it when they could build a brand new one for the same amount of money, then erroneously mentions Allegiant Stadium (where even the public financing was $750 million).
This has been literally a 3 year upgrade plan that cost as they said over a half a billion dollars. They couldn't get it done within one year. It's for the Super Bowl. Did you even watch the video?
The Vegas stadium is in a terrible spot you can't walk in it or out of it effectively or safely , it's wrapped up by interstate. Also look up the video of the dude leaning on the railing and it shatters , it's not built well.
I think the video showed why-- it's in one of the best places to be in New Orleans. The building is structurally sound. It has a 'Goldilocks' capacity for major events (not to small nor too large) and is capable of hosting different types of events. And the new renovation brought in 2020s fan comfort at a reasonable price.
