I went to 5 Guys last week and spent $12 for a "little hamburger and a little fries" and no drink. I know that they always dump "extra" fries into the bag, but as I was taking the food out of the bag, I noticed that the cup that they use for "small fries" was smaller than it once was. It wasn't much bigger than the dixie cup that I use to wash down my meds. That's the end of 5 Guys for me.

The Wall Street Journal food critic reviewed Red Lobster with the column title “They Dare to Call This Food” I tried their coupon special and I agreed.
Summary: Here are the 15 restaurant chains listed from the transcript along with a summary of why they might close in 2025: Red Lobster - Facing financial difficulties due to rising seafood costs, particularly for lobster and shrimp, unsustainable promotions like endless shrimp deals, and competition from fast-casual seafood concepts. The parent company, Thai Union, is restructuring U.S. operations due to significant losses. Boston Market - Known for rotisserie chicken, it's grappling with lawsuits regarding wage theft and unsafe working conditions, coupled with declining sales and competition from home meal delivery and grocery store hot bars. Applebee's - Suffering from high inflation affecting its middle-income customer base, the chain's signature deals are less attractive as prices rise, and younger consumers prefer trendier, faster dining options. Chili's - Facing competition from fast-casual Mexican chains with lower price points, struggling with high costs for food, labor, and utilities, and seeing profit margins shrink to their lowest in decades. Buffalo Wild Wings - Struggling with skyrocketing chicken wing prices, reduced alcohol sales, and a shift towards healthier dining options among younger customers, leading to fewer visits on game days. Subway - Franchisees are dealing with lawsuits over predatory leases and mandatory upgrades, while customer dissatisfaction grows due to inconsistent quality and perceived disingenuous menu changes. TGI Fridays - Experiencing declining customer traffic due to an overcrowded casual dining market, with closures due to unprofitability, and attempts to appeal to younger demographics not yielding significant results. IHOP - Sales are declining as consumers opt for cheaper breakfast alternatives, with rising ingredient costs pushing up menu prices. The brand also faced backlash from the "IHOb" marketing stunt. Checkers and Rallies - Hit by supply chain issues, competition from larger fast-food chains, and customer complaints about service and quality, leading to significant location closures. Outback Steakhouse - Rising beef prices and a shift away from sit-down dining are impacting profitability. Efforts to modernize haven't successfully attracted younger diners. Sbarro - The decline of traditional malls has affected its primary market, with competition from delivery-focused pizza chains and boutique pizzerias, alongside rising ingredient costs. Ruby Tuesday - Struggling to recover from bankruptcy, facing high operational costs, and unable to compete with fast-casual trends, leading to a significant reduction in locations. Chuck E. Cheese - Its business model is less appealing in a digital-first era, with declining foot traffic, high debt, and issues with location upkeep and legal troubles. Hard Rock Cafe - Losing relevance as a themed dining experience, with high operational costs in prime locations and a lack of interest from younger generations amidst a slow post-pandemic recovery. Pizza Hut - Losing market share to competitors with better delivery and digital strategies, coupled with quality control issues and rising costs, leading to location closures and strategic reconsiderations. These chains are all navigating a challenging landscape marked by economic pressures, changing consumer behaviors, and intense competition.
Personally, restaurants charge now more and offer less ( food quality, quantity). In a world where the cost of living is rising, I find that eating out is not an absolute need; but just a luxury. I'm eating much less in restaurants, & now find that my weight is now down to more normal levels & I generally feel better ( I think my body thanks me for consuming less unhealthy foods). We certainly will not have a general public starve because of restaurants vanishing in 2025.
There's a Subway in our small town I hope it doesn't close. I don't like Pizza Hut I like Dominos better and have been a loyal customer of Dominos since 1996
There's also a Subway in the small town that I live in. It's the only one in town. There are a few in Northwestern AZ (it's only 20-30 minutes away from my home). I loved Quiznos until they closed down most of their locations.
Most of these restaurants food isn’t as good any more. Plus their service isn’t that great either. So expensive to go out to eat now plus a tip. My husband and I very rarely go to eat anymore. Something I used to love to do. Just can’t afford it.
Five Guys is no longer worth it. Their prices are a joke. I even talk to an employee that worked there after hours, bez place was empty. I thought about going, looked at prices, and said HELL NO. But, he said outside that he doesn't make enough money to afford their food. Only way he gets it, is using their employee discount. He said it's overpriced and doesn't even eat there.
Not at all surprised at some of these potential closings. What I am surprised about is how they managed to stay in business as long as they did with over salted foods and some of the worst ingredients on earth. People just don’t want what they’re dishing out, especially since it’s so expensive..
Lee's Sandwiches is the mcd's of banh mi here in california. Used to be $3.15 for a sandwich, and wasn't worth more than that. We tolerated the cheap prices on the agreement that the sizes weren't great. They're $12 now and...yeah, pretty bad.
I used to really like Boston Market. They just closed anywhere near me. I never liked Applebees, Ruby Tuesday or TGI Fridays. I like IHOP. I like Sbarro. No one goes to Chuck E. Cheese unless they are having a kids party. For me the quality and taste of the food is key. I don't like the pizza from Pizza Hut. It is oily on the bottom and the crust is soggy. So many other pizza restaurants that are so much better.
Red Lobster, Boston Market, Applebees, Chilis, Buffalo Wild Wings, Subway, TGIF, IHOP, Checkers and Rallys, Outback, Sbarro, Ruby Tuesday, Chuck E. Cheese, Hard Rock, Pizza Hut. You're welcome.
Applebees decidedly and deliberately had ZERO options for non meat. How’s that working out for them? I love these places who know BETTER than you what you want. Hate vegetarians? Pay the price …..
I'm shocked Boston Market made it this long 😲 Last time I went to Red lobster it was owned by General Mills and I ordered a lobster, snow crab meal. Once the waitress brought the food to the table I responded to her saying "Excuse me I ordered the lobster and snow crab, not the crawfish and twig meal😒 so disappointing. As for Sparro , just no.
People are learning to cook again. And this is good. We eat out 2 times a month…usually a soup and sandwich kinda place .. nothing fancy.
I tried Sbarro for the first time 2 years ago and it was gross! How do you mess up pizza?
5 Guys?, dont support companies like this. We all know what the Problem is.
The country is going to hell in a handbasket. I have never seen this country be so divided. United we stand divided we fall.
Penn Station East Coast Subs are mainly Michigan They are the best. Second best is Jersey Mikes Subs. They service a wider area.
I like Jersey Mike subs. Much better imo than cold ones.
Subway is darn expensive now
Subways bread is loaded with sugar. Panera is more expensive but better.
Most of these restaurants food isn’t as good any more. Plus their service isn’t that great either. So expensive to go out to eat now plus a tip. My husband and I very rarely go to eat anymore. Something I used to love to do. Just can’t afford it.
😂😂😂😂 i guess trying to sell the new Z for 70k didn't work!!!!
My girlfriend and I went to Five Guys and for 2 burgers and Fry's and drinks it was $38 it was ridiculous yes it was good just to fucking expensive!!!
I need to drive over 80 miles one way to eat at any of these slop houses. So I chose to eat at home its easier cheaper and much better.
Red Lobster is on the out dated side. All these new local seafood spots are killing it.
Guess I'm glad we live where there are only four of these in town. [chuckle]
many of these disappeared from my area a long time ago(near Seattle). I hate to hear about the others failing.
I'm still trying to digest the fact that Pagliacci's that used to be on Lower Queen Anne closed up shop. That used to be my go to pizza place.
The more close the less we have
I think that's the plan.
If it's cheaper to get it from Amazon or Walmart with delivery to your house. Why wast time, which could be used for overtime, or sleeping.
$20 for a hamburger fries and drink at 5 guys is ridiculous.
They pay Fisherman nothing for their catch. I know, I was one
Chillis sure was crowded last week when we went. The food was all that though. I loved the fries
Not at all surprised at some of these potential closings. What I am surprised about is how they managed to stay in business as long as they did with over salted foods and some of the worst ingredients on earth. People just don’t want what they’re dishing out, especially since it’s so expensive..
Restaurants around me have their parking lots full.
CEO's are far to GREEDY
I really stopped eating out pre Covid, now I don't ever eat out😊
Greedy CEO'S CAN BE BLAMED
For as I'm concerned, Applebee's and chili's can both out of business
Applebees isn’t going anywhere!! The one next to me is always packed!!
We’re entering a new era💯
Ppl don't go out food , sit dwn prices 2 high, plus tip, poor quality food ,bad service, rising costs for restaurants is y cust pay so much ,
Lee's Sandwiches is the mcd's of banh mi here in california. Used to be $3.15 for a sandwich, and wasn't worth more than that. We tolerated the cheap prices on the agreement that the sizes weren't great. They're $12 now and...yeah, pretty bad.
Th3 video literally name all the resturant i know. Sounds like we wont have any franchise resturant by next year.
Skip Bayless, is that you???
Take a shot every time he says, "bygone era", "casual dining", or "relic."
Jersey mike is giving subway competition. I love like subway tho
Bidenomics in action!
Even with a great economy. All of these restaurants are way way over rated! No great loss
I’m not surprised by rally’s. Their fries and banana shakes are great
pizza hut might as well go 18 dollars minimum to get delivery is stupid most competitors dont have that requirement
Folks need to learn how to cook. The money spent at a restaurant in one day can be used to cook three days of meals.
I’ve never been to Applebees. There are no locations in Los Angeles
Wait, Chili's is up 70%, why is it being mentioned here?
Chili's isn't going anywhere
It's crazy to believe that Popeye's Chicken is out doing all 15 of these icon restaurants ! 😳
I guess da hood has it's own money 🤑💰
I never failed to get slow service from Popeyes. It’s too bad, because I like their food it’s always slow and always with a little bit of attitude.
I eat at home ,I never eat out …twice a year …tops
I didn’t see McDonald’s on the list🤷♀️….surprise!
What does Tom's Restaurant from 'Seinfeld' fame have to do with Boston Market?
What if all chains are survive by the end of that year?
People are learning to cook again. And this is good. We eat out 2 times a month…usually a soup and sandwich kinda place .. nothing fancy. It has lost its charm….too expensive and rarely is the food very good. I can cook a meal with four servings one night, eat the same meal as leftoversthe next night and maybe make pasta with whatever is in the frig the third night. three nights, six servings , about 25-40 bucks depending on the season.
