We have a very exciting video for you today! About a year ago, I tried the SSL plugins for the first time. These plugins emulate the sound of the SSL consoles and give you that great analog sound using just a plugin. Now, they have added another plugin to this series: the SSL 9000J. When the original console first came out in the mid-90s, many people had one! It became almost the ultimate console for mixing R&B/pop/hip-hop.
Today, we are going to be trying out the new SSL9000J plugin! I will use it on the end of a chain in my DAW and mirror what would happen on the SSL.
The Solid State Logic (SL)9000J is an analogue mixing console from Solid State Logic that was first released in 1995. This console retained the control surface recognizable by any recording engineer familiar with SL 4000, 6000, or 8000 series system. SSL calls the technology used on the 9000, “Superanalogue”, as no capacitors are used throughout the audio path, creating a clean, yet distinct sound.
Now, Brainworx has recreated the sound of behavior of that original SSL 9000J console, so you can get the unique sound of that technology in your own home. Developed in collaboration with SSL, this plugin uses Brainworx’s patent-pending Tolerance Modeling Technology (TMT) to simulate channel-to-channel variances in electronic components in order to create the most realistic analogue sound.
This incredible new plugin also features a wide variety of unique functions. The adjustable THD allows you to add colorful saturation independently to each channel. With continuously variable Virtual Gain, you can add simulated analogue noise on each channel independently as well. Other fantastic features include optional extended Equalizer ranges, parallel compression, and many more.
With a scalable UI, you can adjust the SSL 9000J plugin and adapt it to your screen size and workflow. The plugin comes loaded with tons of useful presets that will give you somewhere to start when looking for your perfect sound.
