    This video contains:
    1) Buda Ball: my favorite powered levitation device- and the only system I know of that will suspend in a horizontal direction as seen in this video. A spherical magnet is pinned 1.5 centimeters from the surface of its hardwood base. Within the base is an innovative control system with adjustable electromagnet coils in a feedback loop with Hall effect sensors (I assume) which allow for fine tuning of a magnetic field to precisely balance the pull of gravity- even when the base is in a vertical orientation! Another amazing design by the Flyte team.
    2) Cherry Blossom Sake Cups
    3) Spiderman Hologram: amazing 3D depth in this vintage hologram from 1995 encoded on thin red plastic and sold as a sticker- the image only appears if a light source is placed above the top of the composition at the correct angle. Unlike photographs, holograms are recordings of the interference pattern of light waves, and this encoded information is stored in a layer thinner than a sheet of paper.
    4) Electromagnetic Levitation Module
    5) Spin Shade Turbine Lamp: a simple kit that transforms any 4 Watt night light into kinetic art. Energy transfer: electrical energy heats the filament of the bulb which then supplies heat to give kinetic energy to the rising air which then gives rotational kinetic energy to the turbine/lamp shade.
    6) Lightning 2000 Plasma Lamp: low pressure noble gasses glow due to discharge from high voltage. A small high frequency coil at center creates the high voltage potential between the center electrode dome and the outer glass dome which is coated with a thin transparent film of metal. Current flow through the thin gas produces the glowing zigzagged path like that of lightning but more rounded. Shown here in 480 fps slow motion.
    7) Jacob’s Ladder Magic: disappearing coins demonstrate another non-intuitive aspect of the hinge mechanism of this classic toy.
    8) Square Wave Horizon: a snap of the wrist sends waves propagating, folding the structure into a tight curl- and a reverse snap will bring back the initial flat square state.
    9) Phonotrope Spinner: When viewed through video from a smartphone an animated Pikachu springs into motion. The laser cut and printed acrylic is specifically designed to interact with the frame rate of the video process, similar to the animation effect of a flip book, but in a repeating cycle. The effect can also be seen without a camera by using a mirror and viewing through the spaces between the cutouts. Using a mirror like this turns the spinner into a phenakistiscope, the 1833 invention that started moving media animation that lead to the development of movies and video.
    10) Kinetic Balance Sculpture
    11) Chain Fountain: a favorite video from my archive.
    12) Floating Eyes: low center of mass spheres suspended within a liquid filled clear acrylic sphere- the inside”eyeball” maintains its eerie orientation always pointing up as the outer shell rotates.

The chain fountain was not discovered by Steve Mould. It has been around for a long long time and part of observational science since they were invented.
