    04:28 Challenge-1: why does the
    larger disk (giraff) move
    faster than the smaller
    (monkey)?
    07:44 Challenge-2

    • @PG-uq5lq
      @PG-uq5lq 7 месяцев назад +8

      The disks spin at the same speed. The giraffe disc has a larger circumference, which is why it goes faster (more distance at each turn)

    • @hanuraj9796
      @hanuraj9796 7 месяцев назад +2

      because the circumference is different

    • @ezlus
      @ezlus 7 месяцев назад +2

      1 the greater circumference causes the disk to move more quickly 2 the magnesium is less dense than the tungsten

    • @Tenshihan-Quinn
      @Tenshihan-Quinn 7 месяцев назад +4

      C1-A: It's not JUST that the larger disk has more surface area, ...that's definitely part of it, but the reason is HOW it uses that surface area - as more of it comes "in contact" with the top, transferring more kinetic energy due to 'friction & drag'. The smaller one does NOT have the contact needed to keep it's own spin up.

    • @Tenshihan-Quinn
      @Tenshihan-Quinn 7 месяцев назад +1

      C2-A: Magnesium's Atomic number is just "12" = Atomic mass: 24.305 u - therefore less dense material, ...whereas Tungsten's Atomic number is "74" (Atomic mass of 183.3 u) making it far more dense (heavier).

  • @beastpunisher421
    @beastpunisher421 6 месяцев назад +3

    4:28 the larger disk has a larger surface area, so it has more friction and rotational force from the top.
    8:03 Tungsten(W) is one of the densest metals out there. Which means you need less Tungsten to equal an equivalent weight of a less dense (i.e. lighter) metal such as Magnesium(Mg)

    Challenge 1 answer - I think thats cause of its bigger size means its higher circumference, due to its higher circumference giraff travels more distance on that surface. Its angular velocity increases cause of increased circumference (i mentioned all the points that came in my mind)
    Challenge 2 answer - Although it seems weird/cool that small part of cube is equal to thhat big part thats happening because that small part is made up of tungsten metal and bigger one with magnesium and small part has equal mass in less volume as compared to that big part, this is because tungsten(small part) metal has very high density and its atom consists more number of protons and neutrons than that of magnesium(larger part), magnesium metal has very less density as compared to tungsten, so its all game of density and to the one who made a perfect size cube in such a ratio that both have equal masses but in different volume cause of density
    i am sorry i may have over ellaborated things, i will improve it

    Challenge 1- Giraff vs Monkey disk
    Short answer: Gear ratios.
    The disks work In the same way that bicycle gears work (or any gear system). The smaller the gear (monkey disk in this case) the less it will rotate compared to the power gear (the spinning top in this case). Where the larger the gear (giraff gear) will rotate more.
    Challenge 2- Tungsten vs Magnesium
    Short answer: Size dose not equal Mass (Tungsten is heavier)
    Tungsten is a very heavy metal and by comparison although the two are different in size, with Tungsten being smaller then the Magnesium, their weight is the same due to the density of the metals.

    The most amazing things about these devices and videos is in the question: Why are these things not being explored on a large scale basis to make everything more efficient and possibly solve many issues in our world? I'd say I assume they are, but it sure doesn't seem to be spilling over from whimsy to practical applications very quickly. If at all.

Give an a ample of a patent of something for this video that has been seized by the military or maybe just not go stating things as a fact if you don’t really know exactly what you are talking about

    Given two circles spun at some tangent t, the circle with the larger diameter will have a greater angular velocity, this is because given the same rpm, an arbitrary point has to move over a longer distance to arrive at the same relative location. Since distance s is given by the function v*t, for a given same time interval t, the object with the greater velocity will travel a greater distance.
    This was the harder question, the easier is the second one, the answer is because they have different densities.
    Magnesium is the least dense metal, with a density of about 1.7 grams per cm cubed, whereas tungsten is one of the most dense, with a density of 19.3 grams per cm cubed. You would think then that the magnesium cube would be 10 times larger, but this is not so. In fact this means that one tungsten cube weighs the same as 10 magnesium cubes, if we get the cube root of 10, we get around 2.2, so the magnesium cube would be ~2.2 times bigger than the tungsten one. Given that we know the mass of the cubes, which we round down to 100 we know that the magnesium cube is has dimensions of around 3.7x3.7x3.7cm and the tungsten one around 1.7x1.7x1.7 cm, which indeed follows our guess of around a 2.2 increase in size. EDIT: I meant 2.2 times bigger in dimensions, not in volume, volume is a cube function, so with a 2.2x increase in dimensions the volume would be around 10 times larger indeed.

      50/50 Cube: a handheld study in material density contrast. This precision machined block is comprised of equal 200g masses of the metals tungsten (W) and magnesium (Mg)- however the volume of magnesium is 11 times that of the very dense tungsten! One must hold and manipulate this simple sculpture for greatest impact. W: 19.25g/cm3 Mg: 1.74g/cm3

    The atomic weight of Tungsten is roughly 7.5 times that of Magnesium. there for Tungsten is a denser material and you need less for the same mass.
