Benjamin Chen was arrested on April 7, 2020, following a wrecking spree in his Gemballa Mirage GT. Well, I googled his name and got multiple articles and videos of this pretty much on the first few results. So, while he might be very litigious (and a massive c*nt -> please sue me if you're reading this), it would appear that there are some limits to what lawyers can achieve, especially when they may have to face internet megacorps. But this not being prosecuted (apparently was DUI as well) is a massive travesty. Any car guy should simply just snub him, whenever they see him. Because he clearly does not deserve to be behind the wheel of any great car. Apparently not the first supercar he crashed, but he seems to very invested in and very passionate about the car scene (going on what google told me).
I believe the argument someone in the da gave was that because there was nobody on the road, so he didn't hit the bench marks for reckless driving but fuck he did still leave the scene of an accident at the very least
After seeing that crash in NY and he was acquitted, I dug into it a little... long story short, the guy had a VERY good lawyer on this kind of stuff. In NY apparently the traffic laws concerning reckless driving leave a lot of room for interpretation to what constitutes "reckless driving"... and that lawyer basically weaseled his way through those laws. The other thing is that the guy was on some kind of drugs, BUT the drugs he used were not on "the list" and therefor he couldn't be charged. He of course did have to pay for the damages caused.
@@TV-8-301 No, that's nothing. Paying the damages is the absolute base consequences of this kind of incident that anyone would have to pay. That's not even a punishment, it's just something that is inevitable so long as both parties have insurance. The charges and legal consequences are what is meant to deter people from doing this in the future. Plenty of people have more than enough money to be willing to pay more for insurance if that's the only consequence to doing this sort of thing.
15:16 Not having a regular starter for the car, is more of a happy side effect of the main reason they do this. The engines in those things are super high strung, and don’t really hate idling/operating at a low RPM. So when starting the car, to avoid obliterating the clutch by slipping it on an engine running at 5000rpm, you use the electric motor(Which is housed inside the trans) to get the car up to speed, than turn on the engine. Without the added torque from those electric motors covering low speeds, those cars would have to go through clutches like water
Main reason for the electric motors is for running in the pit as part of the fuel saving initiative to make motorsport "green and environmentally friendly". The nice side effect is no need for starter or "pushboy"
@@JoriDiculousIn the 24 hours, LMP1 cars are not required by the rules to have hybrid drivetrains. They can have only internal combustion, and still race. The reason they use hybrid systems, is because it solves a ton of problems with going insanely fast for a long time around a track. If the tech sucked, and wasn’t useful anywhere else, we wouldn’t see it anywhere besides racetracks. But more and more Super/Hyper cars are using hybrid systems. There is a reason cars like the mclaren P1, Aston martin Valkyrie, ferrari La Ferrari, and etc use similar hybrid systems. The use of electric motors in that way was a very deliberate and very smart engineering choice. I’m also not a fan of every brand going electric; I mean hell I daily an 03 ram 1500 which guzzles gas like there is no tomorrow, but that doesn’t mean I can’t respect some insane race engineering when I see it.

@@natefilla3187 Yeah these guys aren’t experienced with the V10 platform. The Black Huracan later on in the video is an LP610-4 Coupe, not a Performante. And the carbon brakes shouldn’t have any better braking performance than the steel ones (“base model”), provided the tyres are good. They’re mostly just for brake dust management - virtually no dust - and on-road durability. On a track, they can still warp after just 1 session, and will last the same time as the steel brakes.

@@AlcatrazCrylake You’re right, they can, but in terms of real world performance this only translates into low brake dust and high on-road durability. Someone warped their Senna CCs after 2 track days in Laguna Seca. At the end of the day, these are carbon ceramics, not carbon-carbons.
@@R8FKL They change them because for daily track use they are very expensive. One warped set of senna brakes is... Maybe a damaged product. Still ceramics are better performer for way too much money.
Welcome, Leo! He's fun, bring him back! Always thrilled to see Sandro. Question about the rich guy in NYC who took out the minivan and drove off. Is there any reason he would have disabled the airbag? Do people do that for some reason?

Slamming on the brakes tends to cause a loss or severe reduction of steering ability, so if the driver was trying to prioritize steering between the barriers vs trying to slow down for the corner, it would make sense that they didn't press the brakes while they were trying to steer. Your front end grip is split between braking and steering, so you have to prioritize which one is more important.

I’ve got nothing against the chap on (our) left and naturally, I think Sandro is a genuinely great bloke. However, one thing that happens in the US that doesn’t really happen anywhere else (nowhere near as much anyway) is the modification of Ferraris, Lambos etc. To this day, I’ve NEVER seen a “modified” Ferrari that looks anything close to looking as good as it did when it left the factory. The motoring hobby is super-vast and I say everyone should do what makes THEM happy regarding their car. Something which I of course extend to the Ferrari modifiers - it’s simply because I’ve never understood it in the slightest…

2:55 lambos as well as some other high end sports and super cars aren't allowed at take 5 oil change. take 5 actually has a list they keep up in their little offices of the cars they have to refuse for service. ie 10 drain plugs
Thinking a $1M car getting a $21k oil change is reasonable is equivalent to thinking a $50k car should have $1k oil changes. It's still absurdly expensive.
The problem lies with the car's design. In order to reach the engine, nearly half of the entire car has to be torn down for it. It's very time consuming and they have to take care not to damage any of the panels.
Considering how few places would be willing to do the work in the first place I bet a fair chunk of that $21k is to cover the insurance premiums in case the techs miss some screws or break a part. Not to mention how many techs in a given area are going to even have access to the training material to work on a Veyron. It's not like its part of the usual AllData subscription package.
@Hybris51129 Not to mention expenses on things that cost that much don't scale linearly. It doesn't work that way. A million dollar car is gonna have a higher ratio for a lot of service per dollar spent on the car than your average "mid" class car due to the significantly higher level of expertise needed to work on them. You don't get good enough to work on cars like that easily.
The guy who lost it in the Ferrari on the test drive gunned it mid corner did lift off the gas in a panic and then tried to counter steer while lifting off which is NOT what you do to correct the situation. As soon it gets into a slide and then you lifting off while counter steering, let's the back tires grip up again particularly in rear or mid rear mounted engines where the weight distribution is more rear biased. You need to have a good understanding and feel for how a car like that behaves if you want to put the foot down mid corner like that and this guy had no idea and was caught by surprise when it broke loose. Yes, cars with stability control would have saved it but I don't think it was an option on this one, maybe traction control but that's it.
It's a first gen Ferrari California (that would count as a "modern" ferrari) it has stability and traction control, both of which were likely turned off to try and do skids. Also, listen back to the wrong explanation that he gives. He actually says the car crashed BECAUSE of the stability system removing his capacity to brake. So much wrong into being fed to people who dont know any better... I guess we are in the minority of people who watch this and actually can refute these "facts"
@AyaxRo yes, if stability kicked in, the car would have been diffused from losing control even if he had his foot down the whole time because he would have lost throttle access because the computer takes it away in such situations.

LBW parts of kits are literally for sale on the LB website... having to "buy the whole kit again" is insane and its just to hype things up. Traction/Stability Control description is SOOO wrong its not funny, this is not how it works, if thats how it worked it wouldnt do anyone any good to have the systems on. Steel brakes vs Carbon are a visual fad. Unless the car is consistently tracked the steel brakes perform just as well and heatsoak is a non factor but guess what, real track guys swap out carbon brakes in preference of steel ones for longevity and ease of use. The kit car is a gallardo, easy to tell from the interior, not a murci. The LeMan cars are hybrid, not having a starter is just a side effect not the real reason why thats done. Its to be green and also the ICE doesnt reallly like to lump around sub 4k RPMs.
Ain't no airbags in that old Porsche. Its from the before times. People say it's really a death trap but in reality, all it takes is learning how to drive it properly. You slam that gas pedal and it goes all over the place just like an old 911 or Lambo or Ferrari from that era. This is how supercars from that era worked. The GT2 of that era is probably the worst. I have one. Without new hot tires you can drive it like a grandma but one flick of the gas and you're fucked, you're now doing 110 without any control of anything. I love that car. Driving it is kind of like parachuting into a war zone (I am a former airborne ranger) where you have to be really meticulous about everything or you die. It can be exhilarating and make you feel more alive than you ever were but do it wrong and you're done forever.
4:30, the Lamborghini driver understeered the car, and possibly had brake failure, which caused the car to not make the corner. They also probably were going too quick into the corner. Luckily they didn't crash into the concrete barriers.
2:44 we had a customer at Audi who didn’t wanna pay for an R8 oil change so he took it to jiffy and a week later it showed up at our shop because they drained one drain plug and put 9 quarts in it and drove it.
Electric motors to assist acceleration for the LMP are also a starter. A starter rotates the engine. The fact that the EMA also can be activated to add more power to the drive train doesnt change the simple fact, that indeed it is technically a starter. A very large and powerful one, but just a starter. So no, it does not "replace a push start".
4:03 that’s actually base model, or “previous” base model. Huracan Performante have spoiler on the back and Italian flag on the side. The front bumper also looks like base model, the one before Huracan Evo. I’m kinda obsessed with Huracans xD.
In the second clip, the cars shown at the start and the end are DIFFERENT! The first is a Lamborghini Huracan EVO RWD, and the second is a Murcielago. Considering the surroundings in the clip, it was probably shot somewhere in the Middle East and the stuff the car threw off the road was just sand or some dust on the road.
Don't be silly, those Le Mans racers are hybrids. They run on battery power in the pits because they can (and the regulations might mandate it, I forget). The hybrid system IS the starter. (Also, the class is called Hypercar. Something like 1000 hp total but not in all conditions because rules.)
My dad’s got a sports car shop and if there’s one thing I’ve learned from hanging out and working in there it’s that these nice cars are just cars, sure they put stuff in weird places or do stuff slightly different, but the general maintenance and approach to service is the same, just way more stressful because it’s expensive af when you screw up.😂

He lost control of the car, punted a minivan, and appeared to drive away from the scene of the initial wreck. The damaged car ended up in another crash shortly thereafter, eventually leading to his stop by the New York State Police and formal arrest by the New York Police Department. The whole thing was caught on video, with no ambiguity about who was driving. Yet on March 16, 2021, the Manhattan District Attorney's office dropped its charges against Chen. had to find out who this guy was..Hi frm NZ.

If this guy manages to see this video and then this comment and then this response:
Dude you're a coward, pay for your damages like an adult, make the minivan owners whole again. This ish is unbelievably brazen
Nah, fair use.

Upvoting this video while it’s still up.
He of course did have to pay for the damages caused.
yet they go after trump, shows how corrupt it is

Ok well at least he paid the damages, that's something
@@TV-8-301 No, that's nothing. Paying the damages is the absolute base consequences of this kind of incident that anyone would have to pay. That's not even a punishment, it's just something that is inevitable so long as both parties have insurance. The charges and legal consequences are what is meant to deter people from doing this in the future. Plenty of people have more than enough money to be willing to pay more for insurance if that's the only consequence to doing this sort of thing.
welcome to the 2 tier american justice system. Where a multiple felon and self admitted SA'er can run for president.

@@R8FKL Ceramic brakes can handle heat better and have less brake fate. As well they a re lighter which reduces unpsrung mass. McLaren Senna Brakes need to bake 1 month in the oven and perform extremly well. Better then steal brakes for sure. As well in normal cases ceramic lasts longer cause it is way harder and almost no brake dust means almost no wear. Ceramic brakes don't really brake better then their steel counterparts in most cases and need warm up time not like steel brakes but they handle heat way better and don't fate as quick. If you overheat any brake, it will get damaged...
@@AlcatrazCrylake You’re right, they can, but in terms of real world performance this only translates into low brake dust and high on-road durability. Yes the unsprung mass is lower, but it’s not worth the cost of maintenance/replacement. Take a trip over to the McLaren, Huracan and R8 forums where everyone seemingly switches over to Girodisc or another high-end steel rotors manufacturer (AP Racing etc.).
I mean the front windows used to crack or the whole car could burn down. As well you can overheat any brakes. At the end there is a reason why many racecars run steel brakes. Still ceramics are better performer for way too much money.

I've seen that video of the Bugatti Oil Change, it was a place in Vegas you can rent exotics. It took them quite a bit of time. They couldn't get the car on the lift initially, and they also changed the air filters because they were in there (also, I found it interesting, they had to measure the oil drained, to know how much to put back in). One laugh they had was they had to cut zip ties as part of the process.
The Veyron is a remarkable machine - but as a _car_ it's rather poorly designed. You should _not_ have to disassemble it to change the filters & oil.
@@darkwinter7395 A lot of supercars or hypercars are actually poorly designed. That's what you get when your only goal is performance (or you're building a Ferrari).
@@darkwinter7395 You should not? What do you want from the car? Performance and mechanics on and extreme level or easy service? Let's be real. People who buy those cars have the money. The guy in the water is from a Targa Newfoundland Rally. That's a fast stage through a town with a lot of braking, next to the ocean where the wind covers the road in dust and sand. He definitely was over ambitious in a downhill braking zone, but that's rally.
The wind doesn’t cover the roads with sand in Newfoundland, the sand trucks do. Notice the rocky beach. The biggest problem with Newfoundland roads is that they are rough and full of potholes. Not to mention narrow with turns everywhere.
@@markchatman9583 as a Vermonter I understand the concept of winter sand. I made the assumption that offshore breezes would add an additional environmental element to the equation. The lambo driving through the grass didn't even hit the brakes until he hit the grass. You can see them light up.
yeah, looked to me like maybe the driver cut too hard, pushed the front, and chose to ride it out instead of trying again.
He hit the brakes turning in and locked up. Typical amateur fault
In some neighborhoods that's called an insurance scam.
Seems too obvious
He knew he failed and made the correct decision to ride it out between the barriers instead of wrecking his car into them... I have no problem with it. He kept his cool and made the good call.

As marvels of engineering I do respect and admire them. Koenigsegg is ground breaking for sure. But they don’t tickle me much emotionally. I understand it’s weird, but I think we have become desencitized somehow. Fixing audi tt’s in driveways was more interesting car content. For me anyway.

They were talking while the Cadillac started up, those things sound like hell is coming with them. I got to see it in Austin a few weeks ago, they sound amazing in person.

It's not like its part of the usual AllData subscription package.
i love that Bugatti, but the fucking design to maintain it is just retarded
@Hybris51129 Not to mention expenses on things that cost that much don't scale linearly. It doesn't work that way. A million dollar car is gonna have a higher ratio for a lot of service per dollar spent on the car than your average "mid" class car due to the significantly higher level of expertise needed to work on them. How can a car guy with his experience still say "Porsch" instead of "Porsche"!?
This liberty walk t shirt guy doesn't know anything.

Luckily they didn't crash into the concrete barriers.
not a performante because they came with a fixed rear wing.
For a guy that "works" on these cars adding goofy body kits he doesn't know nearly as much as he thinks he does.
4:08 not a Performante, they come stock with a carbon fibre wing.
One of the best RMS videos Sandro is the new best at Donut better pay him before he leaves
Dude as a diehard arkham game fanboy that batmobile had me geeking
4:00 I love you sandro, so down to earth...hahaha
He is a male version of the chicka Steph with the same septum percing! 😅
" Literally "

My dad’s got a sports car shop and if there’s one thing I’ve learned from hanging out and working in there it’s that these nice cars are just cars, sure they put stuff in weird places or do stuff slightly different, but the general maintenance and approach to service is the same, just way more stressful because it’s expensive af when you screw up.😂
Still killing it, been following since "that other channel" it be cool if you had real background and just use green screen as needed
A producer telling the guys on camera when to stop makes this seem like TV show in the worst way.
