Lyrics:
There've been times in my life
I've been wonderin' why
Still, somehow I believed we'd always survive
Now, I'm not so sure
You're waiting here, one good reason to try
But, what more can I say? What's left to provide?
Are you gonna wait for a sign, your miracle?
Stand up and fight
Make no mistake where you are
(This is it)
Your back's to the corner
(This is it)
Don't be a fool anymore
(This is it)
The waiting is over, no, don't you run
No way to hide
No time for wonderin' why
It's here, the moment is now, about to decide
Let 'em believe
Leave 'em behind
But keep me near in your heart
Know whatever you do, I'm here by your side
For once in your life, here's your miracle
Stand up and fight
Make no mistake where you are
(This is it)
You're goin' no further
(This is it)
Until it's over and done
Oh oh oh oh
(Who makes the choice of how it goes?)
It's not up to me this time
(You know)
Comes a day in every life
Make no mistake where you are
(This is it)
You're goin' no further
(This is it)
Until it's over and done
(This is it)
One way or another
(This is it)
(No one can tell what the future holds)
(This is it)
Your back's to the corner
(This is it)
(You make the choice of how it goes)
(This is it)
The waiting is over
(This is it)
(No one can tell what the future holds)
(This is it)
You're goin' no further
(This is it)

Thank you Michael McDonald for giving that push to Kenny to put him on top of the charts.
One of the best voices ever in pop music backed up by the magical voice of Michael McDonald! Wow! That was a time of great music.

Happy late birthday to Kenny!!
He is really a Capricorn ❤️😊👍🎼🎼🎼🎶🎶
Love Kenny Loggins and Michael McDonald❤❤❤ very talented artists
I thought he was born in 1947. I'll look it up--Kenneth Clark Loggins.
Between Kenny's lead vocal, Michael McDonald's soulful background vocals and whoever is playing keys they made this song a winner!
With and without the Doobie Brothers,Michael McDonald is a Hall-of-Famer.
Don't forget the bass player

I saw the Doobie Brothers in my day wow
Another example of how there were some SOULFUL white boys back then! Goooood music
Also the unmistakable sound of the backing vocals by Michael McDonald, who co-wrote the song with Loggins.

Some songs never get old and this is one of them that will be around forever.
A forever classic ❤
Soooooo true!!!
The history of this song is Kenny wrote it to his father, when his father was diagnosed with the need for surgery and his father was adamantly refusing to get it. Kenny won the day though and his father's surgery was a success.
This song was my song to my dad when he first got diagnosed with cancer. From the time he decided to fight it until the end when he couldn't fight it anymore and decided to enter hospice. He passed away Feb 8th with his children by his side, holding him. Miss him everyday.
I'm so sorry for your loss
I believe this was the same issue with Kenny Loggins dad. That’s why he did this song
So sorry for your loss. Parents are the beginning of our life lines. To loose them can be tragic. Hoping your doing better. A fan!
Whether dedicated to Kenny's father or not, the song is not about cancer or alcoholism.
If you read the lyrics and watch the original video, it's about a married woman having
an affair and stringing a guy along. He's giving her an ultimatum. THIS IS IT.
You're going no further, time to decide. It's him or me. Let your friends believe what
they want. Leave him behind. First verse, "don't wait for some miracle"...Second
verse, "Here's your miracle, it's ME, dummy". Perfect marriage of lyrics and music.
Very sorry for your loss🫂
I'm 70s baby (71) this came out in 79 grew up as a child to the best music era and If there ever was a song for what's going on in the world right now... This is it! 10/2024🩷
10/7/24😂😂😂❤❤❤❤😊😊😊
I'm a 70s baby, as well; both I and the song debut in the same year. 😁
How about Marvin Gaye's 'What's Going On'?!
We grew up knowing this is how music is supposed to sound.🎹🎸🗣️🎶
Same here born in 76!
Before "One Shining Moment" from CBS, NBC used this as its theme song for its NCAA men's basketball Final Four from 1979-1981. That's how I first learned of this song. One of the first examples of a network using a hit song at the time of release as theme music for a major sporting event.
I've always associated it with the NCAA Tournament. I wish they would bring it back for those of us who have watched the Tournament since it was used
@@ts7754 @eebradley1 : Born & raised in Louisville, Ky and I STILL associate it with winning the championship in 1980.
i remember that. think of that everytime i hear that song.
Perfectly said .... Indiana State ..Depaul ... Michigan State...
Apparently this song was dedicated to Kenny’s dad who was struggling with suicide at the time. Such a powerful song, a beautiful moment between father and son.
I thought it was cancer
It was cancer. The song is to his father, trying to convince him to decide to do treatments, or just give up and let the cancer take him.
@@lauracat33 His dad was about to undergo surgery and this song was Kenny's wish for his dad to fight the cancer. He spoke of it this morning (5/22/22) on Sunday Morning.
Whoa, no kidding? Wow, what an awesome dedication to father from son. Since age 15, his music makes a lot of sense today.
@@lauracat33 I read that his dad got through the surgery OK and lived four more years.
This is an amazing piece. It resonates with almost everybody in any situation. From loved ones dying to the freaking Super Bowl! I mean, it literally is speaking to us(he’s got the lyrics there on top of everything; the music is awesome too but it’s definitely something special here, it’s speaking out, it’s love, it’s strength,it’s not judging someone(“whatever you do im here by your side”), it’s sadness, it’s power,it’s anger-it runs the gamut of the whole damn human condition. And as always,it gets down to Love. This song is something to let our kids hear and just let ‘em listen and figure it out for themselves. We had too. Thanks for the help in that,Kenny.🙏🕊🔮
Still loving this awesome song in 2022, 43 years after it's debut. I LOVE Kenny Loggins' voice and his look. "You think that maybe it's over. Only if you want it to be." Michael McDonald co-writing and singing backing vocals further explains why the song is so great. 🔥 💛
I forgot that Kenny Logins ever dressed this way.

@@friedricengravy6646 It's actually both. Kenny Loggins is singing lead vocals, and Micheal McDonald is singing background.
They did a lot of work together.
For instance, they cowrote "What a Fool Believes."

You got it. Michael assists with background vocals and actually co-wrote the song with Kenny. My favorite Doobie Brothers song, "What a Fool Believes", was written by Loggins and McDonald making them a powerful songwriting team as both songs are excellent. I especially love Kenny's vocals on this song. He is one of the best, if not the best.
Kenny Loggins, Michael McDonald , Don Fagen and Daryl Hall is one of the GOAT

"FOR ONCE IN YOUR LIFE, HERE'S YOUR MIRACLE! STAND UP AND FIGHT!"
This reminds me of 1980 NCAA men's basketball tournament. The Louisville Cardinals were high flying that year. Before Houston had Phi Slamma Jamma Louisville had the Doctors of Dunk!...with Darrel Griffith! They were the first team to use athleticism on the defensive side of the court. They were pinning shots to the backboard! They also won the national championship that year. It's amazing how one song can generate so many memories...
Yes indeed Rodney and scooter McKay from Mount Vernon NY winning the championship
Used again in 1981 when Indiana played UNC in the final.
Wow I was only 6yrs old but this was one of my very first sports memories along with the first 49ers superbowl and the Bird v Magic college hoops matchup.

This song has a very powerful message. Kenny Loggins wrote it for his father, who was discouraged and losing hope because of his serious illness. Even though the lyrics have a universal message, if you listen to it thinking of Kenny telling his father to fight for his life you may get a whole new appreciation for the song's urgency.
