Helpful stuff. I don't know how some people can claim these guys don't sing when they don't do any singing in this video. This is an exercise. You can't entirely judge a voice my an exercise consisting of "Mum..."
hey, you can check out: zen of screaming nope, you dont have to give up screaming to sing! theres tons of vocalist that are hybrids. all the best with your band. God bless. -daniel.
@elffish79 - This was my FIRST (and only) vocal lesson... but I have been singing for ten years. Whether you believe it or not I learned a LOT from this lesson. Maybe if you paid more attention to the exercise instead of comparing yourself to other singers you could also increase your range. Cheer up!
It's kind of like talking, the more you talk, the better your at with words, the more you sing, the more melody you have, which goes great towards all types of singing, even screaming.
wow I really liked this exercises your exercises are amazing is most worth trying . . . . no I'm not getting paid for this I have sung for like about the same amount of years than the student but haven't found good exercises that will help me keep the compression on all the time
Currently I'm having success with combining Jamie Vendera's "Raise your voice" e-book with Brett Manning's "Singing success", to be able to sing throughout my range, both clean and raspy. Just thought it might help you. Cheers.
use singing success! for improving your clean vocals(better clean vocals) bt use zen to check if you are screaming correctly etc. i own both sso & zof and the techniques dont clash, so you can still sing and scream. no need to give up either one. (: -daniel.
can you pls tell me how the heck am i suppose to keep my adams apple down in my troat while reaching the high note? pls.. coz no matter how hard i try it always goes up.. do you guys have any xercises?? anyone?
@theperplexedband what helps for me to take a note that i can hit in my chest and in my head. For example the c below the high tenor c. Than I sing that note and i start in head in than slowly make it into a more chestier sound. While staying on the same pitch. You've moved from your head through the mix (slowly thickining the cords) to your chest. Because I start in my head i can see for each tone how chesty I can make without pulling. Ones you've found how to mix it easy to blend the registers
Jesse . hi let me know what you think of ana Free;s voice ? She's in london at the moment . She has had some vocal coaching but would be interested in her improving! tnx lucinda ...
@AndrewHerMusic Yes, of course. I have sung classical music semi-professionally for a couple of years and I can't sing as high as these guys. But I can probably get a lot lower. Voice range can be increased at the top end up to a point though through practice.
You have a deep voice !! you got the country voice, trust me I sound like chester I was a huge fan but now I singing country, so you have to try ;) maybe you sound like scotty mccreery or josh turner or someone else :)
@Mumfin Yes indeed...I have well over three octaves of range....can sing into tenor range...but still a baritone, my cords are mechanically to long for super high notes....thats ok, work with what you have...the key is range, not how high or low.
can anyone tell me! I can do this up to C# above High C with loads of power like these guys. Is this in my mix, head voice or just my chest voice with lots of coompression??
@thecardinalrule You were pulling chest in the higher range...that caused you to strain. The 2nd time you were hitting the high notes in a mixed voice.
@Mumfin If you're a baritone then it might be hard to reach these. If you're a tenor then keep working on it, hit it without hesitation even if you crack. Try it again coz you're buidling up muscle memory. Good luck. Remember to do some lip drills or vocal frys before doing the lesson in this video.
@Signia999 Actually strength is very closely related to how alert your nervous system is, so you can actually blame your brain for not being able to lift heavy things (I see your point though). Anyway, I'm quite sure singing and bench press have very little in common. Muscle memory should be more important for singing than bench pressing - simply because the complexity levels are different.
I DON'T GET IT, SO AS WE SING THE ''VOICE BOX'' SHOULD NOT MOVE UP OR DOWN AT ALL? IT SHOULD REMAIN IN ONE PLACE AS YOU SING? OR CAN IT MOVE EVEN A LITTLE UP OR DOWN?
@highnote32- I don't know. I don't really even know what C5 is. As a singer i'm lucky to work for Brett (full time designer) so, hearing lessons and tips on a daily basis I get to hear a lot of things that help me to understand my voice a lot better. Sadly to say, I am a lazy singer : ) hahaha. I don't practice and warm-up as much or as often as i should. You said you realized your own problems which is key! now the key will be to STRENGTHEN your vocal cords by doing the exercises consistently
Can someone throughly explain what he did to get higher please? I listened as best as i can but i don't understand what Jesse told him to do to increase his range.
@thecardinalrule How high did Jesse take you? The last note was C5. Y'all were going higher as the video faded. I'm guessing that you have gotten educated about the mixed voice. After watching this video, I realized my own problems.
@greeky1 As long as it doesn't hurt too much, you're good. Over time you can master it by directing your voice towards your sinus cavities ( i choose my left) for the reverberation that will give it a sharper and less 'yell-ish' quality. This isn't like head voice where the sinus in your forehead is predominantly involved ( they always tell you to imagine the voice is coming out from the top of your head for this reason) This is more like cheekbone area.
@Mumfin Of course there is a limit. It is a lie that you can extend your voice range for an octave or so...with a warm up exercises you can only get one or two notes higher and that's it. I'm a baritone and highest note i can hit from diaphragm is F#4, sometimes G4.
@thecardinalrule You were pulling chest in the higher range...that caused you to strain. The 2nd time you were hitting the high notes in a mixed voice. You cannot be singing in your chest voice in the higher range.
Success is without a doubt earned definitely not gifted. Without work, even success is empty. Pay attention to the future together with your mind in the current.
@omfgitssamm I wasn't pushing my voice... and there wasn't any strain. To be honest.. i just looked like an idiot when I was singing higher because I was used to straining beforehand. I was used to making those faces to hit those notes. I wasn't necessarily flawless at it... because it was my first lesson and i still need to practice these methods... but I didn't strain my throat even a little when I was doing it correctly.
@Mumfin You should try reaching high notes with qualified teached. If you do it on your own, you'll damage, or lets say block your vocal chords for high notes, practically for rest of life When you reach high notes, it is essential for you to have someone control you doing it. If you do it wrong, your muscles (vocal chords) will get used to the "bad habbit" disabling you from reaching such notes. If you have already done that, you will need a lot of training to get it off, with no 100% warranty
@watermelonygoodness Search for the ones with Heather Hawkins on this channel, especially the one titled "Voice Lessons - Country Singer" (which was originally called "The Secret of the Bridges").
@TheSubwaysurfer I don't know if you should or shouldn't, but I do know that I can't. I feel nauseous and I can't sing. Trying to practice on a full stomach (even just drinking a lot of water before singing) throws off my breathing because I can't utilize my diaphragm like I usually would. Then everything that Singing Success is about, all the methods and excercises to correct the problems, go out the window.
@Killswitch64 By asking him to lean forward he has compressed the diaphragm giving more pressure, higher notes are all about pressure, "high pressure" that is! along with many other things...just takes time an lots of "good" practice.
Can I learn all these singing methods by taking lessons from Seth Riggs or some other speech level singing teacher? Its not that I dont like Brett Manning its just that I live in Los Angeles not Nashville.
@chrisstevensjunior thats what they wanted; to show he has no contrl over his voice and complete strain...then there's an 'after' at the end of this video.
I should not be answering this but no. When i use to be in those band's where i scream, i would always do normal excersises. Singing normally will get your voice to be more up in pitch and louder, so then when you actually scream, its amazing.
@qtkid21 - Ha! it is totally strange. but it works... most of these techniques are odd at first... but get over that!!! they really help you as a singer to understand how the voice is working...and it allows you to control everything better.
I WAS GIGGLING THE WHOLE TIME. COULD YOU GUYS DO A VID ON GROWLS LIKE THE KID YOU SOMETIMES HEAR IN ROCK, I HEAR GIRLS DO IT MORE THEN MALES AND I WANNA PERFECT MINE (IS A GIRL)
how come i can't control my voice box to be stable? after watching this i put my hands on my throat and sung and it keeps going up? and then i tried to control it but now i couldn't hit a high note :/ and i looked at the mirror, and even when im just talking my voice box still comes up? is there like a proper technique or is it something that you just get used to? what's the proper way to do it?
I find it difficult to feel the difference between strong vocal cord closure with a clear tone and a vocal fry. If I try to compress a lot of times I get vocal fry. I can sing without vocal fry but most of the times it will be breathy. Anyone any tips for that?
@filteredglitch Yeah, sometimes leaning forward at the waist can help things. Eventually, of course, the goal is not to need it, but it can help sometimes if you're having a bit of tension or something. I don't know about leaning, back, though. Heh. That seems a bit hard for me, personally.
@ngudem Haha, I've been trying to hit high notes ever since I wrote that comment, I haven't seen any progress but I don't know.. Maybe I just ought to continue or even better, take lessons. Maybe one day.
@Mumfin Yes...there is a limit....I will never sing as high as Maria.....but pretend your doing an animated voice over of a tiny cricket or something....any high note you can talk in....you can sing in.... and sound decent doing it...getting the tone just takes a bit of practice and experimentation.... however in the end it isnt how high you can sing....but simply having a good usable high quality range....you can get that....
This is a badass teacher, PERIOD.
+Ulises Calvo Increible encontrarte por aca xD
No dude, I know better than that
+17TheVIP JAJAJAJAJAJAAJ YO PENSE EXACTAMENTE LO MISMOOOO
Helpful stuff. I don't know how some people can claim these guys don't sing when they don't do any singing in this video. This is an exercise. You can't entirely judge a voice my an exercise consisting of "Mum..."
Hahahah at the end.
"Why not?" laughed so hard.
***** Me too, oh my God kkkk
Hey,,awesome coach lesson i ever watch.. Caywood is good too,,he learned it so fast.. Both of you are awesome
its so cool watching every single one of them improve
This is the perfect singing lesson you will ever find.
He did really well at the end, very good.
hey, you can check out: zen of screaming

Jesse is so gorgeous I could watch him teach anything. Even Eating Cereal 101 would be exciting. I'd be all "oh is that how I open the box? Really?"
You're a great teacher! terrific enthusiasm.
what did he mean by "right in the middle" ? I mean I don't know how to keep it in the middle
use singing success! for improving your clean vocals(better clean vocals) bt use zen to check if you are screaming correctly etc. i own both sso & zof and the techniques dont clash, so you can still sing and scream. no need to give up either one. (:

you are awesome...I wanna sing with my man ...i wish your school was around here..
@theperplexedband what helps for me to take a note that i can hit in my chest and in my head. For example the c below the high tenor c. lucinda ...
this one helped the most.
question: isn't it harder to hit those pitches when your natural voice isnt high like both of theirs?
WOW INSTANT IMPROVING
@AndrewHerMusic Yes, of course. I have sung classical music semi-professionally for a couple of years and I can't sing as high as these guys. But I can probably get a lot lower. Voice range can be increased at the top end up to a point though through practice.

The ma ma ma ma exercises really works 4 me.
@Theamafriends A High C which is the last note they do is a very high note to hit in full voice!
@Mumfin Yes indeed...I have well over three octaves of range....can sing into tenor range...but still a baritone, my cords are mechanically to long for super high notes....thats ok, work with what you have...the key is range, not how high or low.
That's how good the method is.
can anyone tell me! I can do this up to C# above High C with loads of power like these guys. Is this in my mix, head voice or just my chest voice with lots of coompression??
thank's its true .,it help's people who Sing,
@thecardinalrule You were pulling chest in the higher range...that caused you to strain. The 2nd time you were hitting the high notes in a mixed voice.
yes yes yes yes!!! I think I get this sound
@Mumfin If you're a baritone then it might be hard to reach these. If you're a tenor then keep working on it, hit it without hesitation even if you crack. Try it again coz you're buidling up muscle memory. Good luck.

Hey this video is great@@ i was having the same problem with the guy, now i got it thanks dude.

Can I become a sopranist also known as male soprano using head voice and not falsetto?
wow. awsome!
This is sick!
@thecardinalrule You were pulling chest in the higher range...that caused you to strain. The 2nd time you were hitting the high notes in a mixed voice. You cannot be singing in your chest voice in the higher range.
What if your voice keeps on cracking ? Like whenever you try to reach those high notes.
@StormBringer44 - The key is really focusing on how the sounds are made. If you do them wrong, it won't help.
@RELAXzzz12 tell that to the millions of people whose singing has improved by taking lessons. There is always room for improvement.
Success is without a doubt earned definitely not gifted. Without work, even success is empty. Pay attention to the future together with your mind in the current.
This was so cool!
thanks!
Apparently it relieves the tendency to want to pull, something to do with the falling sensation.
@erquantum really? oh snaps. you should upload some videos of you performing. and show some samples of the techniques you've learned to use. =)
@omfgitssamm I wasn't pushing my voice... and there wasn't any strain. To be honest.. i just looked like an idiot when I was singing higher because I was used to straining beforehand. you are beast teacher..The guy are from Zero to Superman
@LordShandor What if your face is red but the singing is good like in the acoustic version of we are young

Does anyone know how much they charge for Skype lessons?
@chrisstevensjunior thats what they wanted; to show he has no contrl over his voice and complete strain...then there's an 'after' at the end of this video.
more air,put in the nose to create more mask use more mm/n mixed with light sounds I guess,to avoid the Subglottal pressure.

@ElfishPowers good to see you're holding down ignorance with vengeance. Btw, what does puto mean?
why did it point to the featured video?
didin't get what he said about a low larynx and weak vocal compression. Because opera singers sing with a low larynx and a lot of volume.
@shegotmilk I know im confused to no matter what it still moves?
Is there a video like this with a girl singing? For high notes specifically?
I find it difficult to feel the difference between strong vocal cord closure with a clear tone and a vocal fry. If I try to compress a lot of times I get vocal fry. I can sing without vocal fry but most of the times it will be breathy. Anyone any tips for that?
I am about to take some lessons to sing my high notes better.
i hope i helps me out

" as i go DOWN"(the way "down" sounds like)
@IRecT3nZGaming
I'm going through puberty atm (I turn 15 on May the 17th), what would you do if you was in my position?
@TheSnuffBox - YES they do....
I do this exercise alot...
muuuuuuuuuuuuuuuum... CLEAN UP MY ROOM!!!
If you start watching at 4:00 it looks totally ridiculous :D. But I don't understand the method, what the hell did he change to get to B Flat
3:41 "as I go dumb"
I have this problem and I am a girl I have ha very husky voice and can't go very high I can only go as hight as the guy on the video zx help!
so what you're trying to say is......by leaning forward, you can reach the higher notes higher?
