Hi, I was just wondering how you made your charcoal pouch? I meant to ask you when I saw you at the exhibition for wildlife artists at the gordale garden centre but I completely forgot! Thanks for all your hard work in putting together these RUclips videos, I really appreciate it 😊
I hope this comment is seen, but I need some help! I have tried acetone on my charcoal drawings, but.... it doesn't do anything. Literally no changes. I'm so confused, I've seen artists do this with charcoal multiple times now and I'm like "hell yeah I wanna try this!" but... lol, nothing! Am I doing something wrong? I've tried spraying it, dripping, splattering it on the paper (it's watercolor paper), it just has no effect. I use charcoal pencils, and I grind my own powder, and apply it with a brush/ paper towel similarly to you. Maybe it's the type of charcoal? I have some Derwent, W&N, and General's brands, and a few other ones that I'm not sure where they came from. I was so excited to try it, but.... it was a failure.
There are two potential reasons, the first probably won’t apply but have you bought acetone or are you using mail varnish remover? If it’s the second sometimes they are acetone free. The other reason might be that you are grinding the charcoal into the surface of the paper too much, you want to essentially just have lots of charcoal powder loose on top of the paper for this to work, if the charcoal has been pressed into the surface of the paper too much it will not work. Hope that helps!!
@@StudioWildlife Thank you! I'll try being more loose with the charcoal on my next piece, That must be the reason because I am using 100% acetone. I just purchased some charcoal powder as well that I've never used in my work, so maybe that'll give me better results! Appreciate the reply
When you start to add white paint or white charcoal over the top of darker charcoal it can disappear or even go slightly blue when you spray fixative on it which is something that o don’t really like in my work
1. What kind of bottle can handle acetone? Do you have the name/brand of the one you bought? Can you answer me here, and also link to it in your Description for others, please? 2. What fabric did you use for the charcoal pouch?
The Acetone is really good at making these marks because it evaporates so quickly, it doesn’t actually soak into the paper itself, unless you spray loads on there! 😂
Stunning. You are very talented.

Such gorgeous underwater effect!
Thanks for the video. Awesome work!
Thanks for sharing this process
I love this! I paint with acrylics, but started with pastels...I am going to try charcoal! You have inspired me! Thank you!
Excellent instruction and advice on creating - thank you!
Brilliant!! Thanks for the tip of acetone. I've tried bleach, water, alcohol...none of them work.

Pretty simple really, it’s just a pair of socks put into each other and filled with rice then I just dip it into the charcoal powder to “load” it
Stunning!
I'm late to the party here, but glad I found the channel. This is a wonderful tutorial. Thank you!
Haha never to late to join the party 😁
Really inspiring video man

Couldn't you just spray white paint or mix white charcoal powder with water ? Would you also do this to show a powder effect instead of splash?

Lovely! What do you mean with a charcoal pouch?
essentially its just a small sock filled with charcoal powder that I use to spread charcoal on the page
@@StudioWildlife thanks for answering!

where can you buy acetone
Wouldn't the Acetone make your work break down over time because it doesn't sound archival st all?

Hi, just a simple question, how do you fix charcoal on the canvas to stop it rubbing off
I use a Windsor and Newton pastel fixative
Great but every time I create I bleed...
