Carissimo maestrissimo, another brilliant vlog - you just gave a 5-year instructional course in charcoal drawing in 15 minutes!!! One of the zillion things we instructors have to get our wannabe-a-Realist-painter students to understand is that, as you say here, a good work of Realism starts out ABSTRACT!! A painting/drawing is made of smudges and tones. As you know, this is how I make my underdrawing stage, but using oil paint, before I go on to the underpainting stage (usually, these days, in deadcolour). Annigoni, under whom I studied in the 1960s, would have loved this liquid charcoal!!! I'm passing this vlog on to our students at the Angel Academy-they'll learn a LOT! Thanks for this. (I'm going to be out of Florence for a part of the summer, giving workshops in Yorkshire and Ireland-after my workshop in Florence-but let's try to get together for a drink or five when you and Valentina are in Florence this summer!)
Maestro! I get there in May, definitely see you
:o is this real? And you studied under annigoni 😵.
@@santocesart do you tattoo or have you tried? I see you got tattoos your self.
Preto do Zimbabwe This way easier to hide constructional mistakes, wrong proportions or a lack of likeness in portraits.
Cesar, you are truly an inspiration to every visual artist yearning to learn!
“Oh my”. This is splendid, she came to life before my very eyes. Thank you for showing us your art.
I just made my own for a school project by scraping the charcoal into a powder and adding it to water and gesso to create a painting. I didn't know they actually sold liquid charcoal! X3
Wow...Cesar The painting looks absolutely terrific
I love the way the corner of the mouth, above the eye, the collar bone is defined....
And the loose strands of hair, and porcelain skin it's just so perfect
Fricken phenomenal. I gotta try liquid charcoal now.
Santos' work is really something special. Plus the man has energy for days.
HOW I DRAW WITH LIQUID CHARCOAL;--
Saw the video and yr above demonstration.
You are a MASTER PAINTER. Only a few are gifted like that.
Yr grasping of human details and the way the human body reflects different shades based on the angle with which it hits the figure is stunning. When you see closely at the figure one wonders whether it is painted or photographed, such are the delicate details. I am myself little experienced in drawing and painting but cannot come even near you. Yr grasping of human detauls and understanding of light and shade is inique and unparalled.

I came across this by accident, just looking for some inspiration to get drawing. Wow! Stunning!
I had never heard of liquid charcoal until today, and I've been using charcoal for about ten years now. What a great video.
Woow I love it 💕❤️❣️ and you are an Great Artist
You're a Master Cesar, it's great watching you're channel, so impressed 😀👍
Love your stuff, Man!🤟
Wow! A terrific drawing at every stage of it. I might have stopped when he was at about the halfway mark. A really good teaching demo! I can’t wait to try this!
I love watching you work. Excellent as usual. Also enjoyed the music!😀
the zip and pep in your performance is the reason why your work looks alive.SIMPLY AMAZING!! and thanks for introducing a new medium for me to try out!
Wow this looks like a lot of fun, I might actually buy this to give it a try
Wow... Cesar this is beautiful, your artwork is amazing, I love the photorealism
I am so glad your channel showed up on my feed. You're an inspiring person who shows a true reverence and love for the arts.
This is a beautiful drawing it looks like one of my favorite Aunts that passed several years ago
Oh so so amazing I wish I could like this video a hundred times over your so awesome
Thank you for demonstration and introduction about charcoal
Wonderful talent! Love your work! Thanks, I'll get some.
I kept thinking that he was almost done several times, but he just kept going! Beautiful work!
Fabulous, could just sit and watch all day long. What was the blending block you used?
Very very nice work.....
I love pencil drawing i love your all pencil work .....
Every work very helpful....
I am using your teknik..........
I am an little artist in India...
U are a very talented...👉💗
It's the first time that I see this product and I'm really impressed, it looks great for an underdrawing. Such wonderful technique and skill increase my appetite for work like crazy :))
Your work is amazing as usual! I have two questions about the liquid charcoal! Is it really the same temperature of the sticks? The sticks look warmer in video! And also is the liquid charcoal erasable once it dries? Thank you for sharing your process on RUclips I always feel like I learn a lot by watching your videos!
Gum arabic makes it not erasable as it is a binder and you can only (in the way we usually talk about erasing as with rubber eraser) erase what only sits onto of a surface held by friction and static. But you can wash it off completely if your surface can take that.
But he only used that liquit charcoal at the begining, most of the work was made with the normal, i think it is an advertisement video
@@alexvelasquez3945 more of a demo on how a artist could use their product
@@alexvelasquez3945 honestly the way he used it is a good way to use it, seeing how muddy it looks I don't think it would be easy to paint a whole thing with it (with the same results of normal charcoal)! But then why use liquid charcoal like that when you can just use any other paints if it doesn't even have the property of charcoal? At the ends it's basically gouache 🤔 I think that mixing powder charcoal and only water would be better at this point.
@@weronoyume I just received it and was thinking it would have the property of charcoal once dry. Well you are right it's like basically using black gouache. Liquid charcoal I think is just a catchy name. Regular gouache would achieve the same effect.
Mi hermano you are the Velazquez, Michael Angelo of modern times.
Always amazed by your art.
Sir your work is wonderful as usual .............!
God bless u
Fabulous artwork !! Thank you!!
Great review Cesar Santos. It's basically a mutation of two mediums behaviors: oils and watercolors because it's very flexible like oils where you can keep applying layers but the consistency of a water based property. I will try it.
Nice style n great process... thanx for sharing 🙏👍 very inspiring
Superior skill!!! I am still surprised people dislike this...
Your skills are incredible. Thank you for sharing.
Superb ! I enjoyed watching your technique in this one and how it evolved. I think I will try some of this liquid charcoal on my ink wash wax resist drawings. Thanks for posting this ! 👍😃
Forgive me, but I noticed that you stopped using the liquid charcoal at 3:50 and the remaining artwork was completed with solid charcoal 😅 I was hoping for a full demo on liquid charcoal like the title suggests. 😊 but your choice causes me to wonder if liquid charcoal is only best for initial stages? Is there some reason why you cannot use the liquid for the whole piece?
Basically, I want to understand your thinking. Why did you choose to finish the piece with the solid charcoal over the liquid?
Please, I would love to see a full liquid charcoal video if possible
Beautiful painting/drawing!
Very cool I like the charcoal art.
Very interesting. I know what I'm buying on my next visit to the art supplies store. ✏🖌🖍
Great process Cesar, I like your videos where you draw or paint!
Hermoso proceso. Siempre un placer y una lección, verte en acción.
YES YOU CAN
ERASE LIQUID CHARCOAL
Awesome Cesar...as always. Also such great music choices - old school ‘real musicians’ playing live together before the ‘help’ of computers 😄 a pleasure to listen to as well as watch. Thanks for sharing this 🙏
Yes, please share the block you're using for blending!
amazing drawing/painting !!!
Wow beautiful 😯 drawing ✍️
Cesar can you paint over liquid charcoal? Thank you for your service to the art community.
Awesome brother 👏
Now you've got me excited about maybe using charcoal generally this media is Messi for me and I have always had a problem controlling. I've been way from art from so long that everything is new to me and exciting keep making videos thank you
What paper do you use for liquid charcoal? How do you make sure the paper stays flat?Beautiful painting 👍👍
Complete Mastery!
Me encantó, me gusta trabajar mis pasteles con base de agua y ya quiero probar este estilo de carboncillo!!
That was awesome! may i know, did you draw that by imagination or by seeing some photograph? & how much time taken to draw from start to end? - fan from india
What is the square tool your using to blend and soften? Beautiful work!!
Love everything about it as always
Have found any quality difference between the original Nitram sticks and those now produced in Canada? What is that large blending pad you are using made of?
just wow!
Beautiful painting thank you for sharing
SOOOO; is this liquid charcoal easily erased? IF so, can it be erased with a kneaded eraser or does it need a different eraser to do the job?
Very late reply and you've probably already got an answer but, just in case, yes it is erasable in the same way as regular charcoal, *when it has dried*.
I love these videos! Thank you!
This is great, will definitely try it out! Thank you!
Incredible piece!
Perfection GJ!
Thank you so much for this inspirational video 😊
Great work Cesar. Love it.
What is that big black rectangular tool? Is that the sharpening block or a sponge or eraser? Great video as always. 👍
awesome demo! wish there were more replies to all the great questions!!!!!!
Amazing talent! Great stuff :D
Brillante, gracias maestro
Awesome! Truly inspired..thanks for sharing:)
Question: Was that a sponge you used to blend in the charcoal around 3:00?
Awesome work as always Cesar love it!
Content starts at 2:15!
Thanks Cesar for sharing!
Hola maestro, hope you are well. Love the interview you did with Creative Masterminds. I always learn a lot from you, not just about art but also about your work ethic and philosophy. Its very inspiring and motivational. I really admire your skills and dedication. You got talent.
I was wondering if you ever tried acrylics again after you mastered oils. I would be interested in seeing you do an Acrylics vs Oils video. Maybe do two copies of the same portrait but one in acrylics and one in oils? I wonder if the medium would affect your style since you already master both oils and acrylics. I would love to see the difference.
Thanks for all you do. Wish you good health to you and your loved ones. God bless you.
Ps. Can you erase those liquid charcoals??? lol.
Astounding, as always!
Thats good 🤗🙌 maybe I use grey water color too
Nice 👍🏻 love your videos 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thats impressive
Ceasar, In using this medium, does it reactivate when wet (as with water crayons) or does it dry and enable building up like paint? Do you use spray fix with it as you build up? I see you used it to build up the "underpainted" parts and worked over with your stick charcoals correct? I'm asking because I'm trying to both learn from how you work and I'm thinking about buying some of this stuff to try out. I wonder what happens if you go super THICK with it. My first thought is it would look cool until it dries and it might not hold up. Any technical tips using it? what NOT to do? Also, when you used the sponge was it dampened a little -as I saw it was blending and softening it up really nicely! Great content!
Great product. Nice to cut down some dust. What is the large black rectangle? Looks like a large sponge.
Amazing work and new material! Thanks for sharing. Would you please tell us what's the blue Square thing you rubb on the drawing from time to time? Thanks, dear Cesar!
🙌 Wonderful man 👍

Hermoso dibujo ✍️ !
Fantastic demo ! I am ordering some today.
Are you at an angle while drawing to avoid being in the camera shot but then your own view of the drawing would be skewed. How do you film the drawing straight on and still keep your own view accurate while drawing? Gracias.
Fabulous video, Cesar.
Is the fine tapered ended long stick, just a charcoal stick that you have shaved yourself to that length and fine point? Please could you explain the benefits of such a long "instrument"?...I'm amazed it doesn't snap ? Do you wrap something round the other end as a handle?
The only time you appear to use the liquid charcoal is at the start,is that right?
sensacional.. voce manda muito Cesar
Beautiful!
Wow! You are amazing! Could tou tell me how you sharpen the charcoal please??
It's hard to keep my hands out of sketch, I have pencils only, but see how you use charcoal can see subtle nuances, very nice!
I love all your s videos :) its so inspiring
Very nice work. Love your “drawings” or is it paintings? 🤣 thanks for the tip. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Nice question. is it drawing or painting?!!😅
Parabéns felicidades 🇧🇷🌏🇺🇸
I want that, that is awesome!
Perfect cesar👍💖
Beautiful work, a beautiful guy, just beautiful. X
A master like you always nail it. I have few questions; do you also draw portraits/figures without reference often? And if so, would it be possible to show us one of your work that was done without reference? I’m pretty once again I will be blown away per usual.
Great fan of yours 🙌🏿🙌🏿🙌🏿🙌🏿
Absolutely beautiful!
Great demo, thanks! A note on the links to the Nitram products: you link 5mm sticks and the baton which holds only 4mm sticks. Only one "mignonette" refill products seems to exist, a soft one. Nitram's website is not very clear on this and has no other grades available.
You are very inspiring. Nice vid man
👌👽👌
@Cesar Santos
WOW ....Cesar...or should I call you God....:) A true CREATIVE ARTIST... .I bet you will be just as BRILLIANT working with mud from your back garden as you are working with Liquid Charcoal; regardless of the medium you play with... Thank you for the precious time you are spending with us. XX
Beautiful work! ;-)
