Yeah, but he was born too late...3 or 5 centuries too late.
      He would be a classic.
Now,the ’Art’ is completly different, just need relations,no technic, like Damien Hirst on nft.

Thank you Cesar. You are so inspirational. I’m just learning to draw and paint. I am 64 years old and have been studying these elements for the past year. As luck, would have it I found the classes I needed free of charge through a local community collage. While these classes are a blessing they sometimes do not give one on one time that I need. In the case of mono chromatic and drawing, I have had to learn somethings on my own. ...... Wa la, while doing research to help, with my deficiency I happened upon your youtube videos.
Today’s video helped me understand the process better. Recently I did a good drawing for a class assignment. The steps ( using acrylics) were coming along nicely , until I realized I didn’t take the monochromatic far enough. Instead I , as well as my instructor , blocked in the other paints. I lost my drawing , it disappeared . I was so dismayed and lost, I couldn’t move forward on the painting. Very discouraged , I set the painting aside. I haven’t been able to touch it since.
Your video has giving me hope for my painting as well as others. So, to myself I say. Slow down, watch Cesar’s video again and again if I must. I’ll get there.
    Blessings to you Cesar .
    Gabrielle from Rancho Cucamonga California.

Hello there :). I started late in life too (late forties), when you start late especially, I think it is very important to also 'play'. Play like a child, just follow your instincts with colour and different materials, experiment, draw silly things without an attachment to the outcome, AND do you your classical studies as well, just like we learn scales for music, or train as an athlete. I felt sad when I read about your being discouraged. While it is always normal to get discouraged sometimes no matter what we do, it is also a sign (imo), that we need to respond to that in a way that moves us forward. I have finished my advanced diploma in art and creativity, and now I am looking at the classical route also, to improve and help me develop, I LOVE Cesars' videos! I hope you don't mind my unsolicited option/advice :). All the very best, and keep loving art! :)

I know what you mean. I have had that happen to me as well. If you block in the color too early or too much the painting looks like a pop art painting. Me personally i like to take the monochromatic to the limit and add very little pure color and mostly diluted at first. The most colorful part of my portraits are the backgrounds.

The portrait you bought, the man is looking inside, within, reflective, contemplative, I think that's what attracted you to it, in your portrait the man is looking outward and or up to where his help is coming, there is still an inward awareness, although it is not as obvious, he does not have the age the other one has, as you said its not meant to be a copy, yet inspiration, yet it's essence is awe inspiring!!!
Thank you for your reflection and process you've shared.............amazing!!!!!!!!!!!

Great painting Cesar! I just wanted to say thank you. I was struggling to improve my painting technique, being entirely self taught, I was frustrated and often felt like giving up entirely. I got your Secrets of Portrait painting DVD. It's the single best instruction I've ever received, I feel like I have direction to improve and reach the standards that I want to achieve in painting. Sorry if this is long-winded but just wanted to sincerely say thank you Maestro.

Then re-painting it & doing another piece inspired by it, all so beautifully, with such ease! I know you’ve had a lot of schooling & have been painting for a long time, but still I’m surprised at your ability to create these amazing pieces !!!!!!!
I’ve been a professional artist for some time, but not schooled. Self taught & not very painterly.
I’m definitely going to watch & learn Caesar, so I can apply this to my new work, the pieces I’ve always wanted to do, but didn’t have the skill... yet!

I totally wonder too, the masters of the past and how they interpret it, now we have photo to make a study on the image, and have access to using technology to modify the tones to create the final piece.. bu they didn't have that in those times... also, their light inside their buildings when painting was dim and low, allowing the colour to become more observant in the artist... sometimes for me too much light on the subject blanks out the real tone quality of..for example...skin... I love Constable, and Turner.... simple brush marks can accentuate something when standing back so much... its incredible... blessings Master Santos... one love

After the value layer, do you paint the color in glazes, letting the underpainting values come through? Or, do you use the value under painting as a guide, and apply color with thick paint that ultimately covers the underpainting, matching the colors to the values as you go?
