Absolutely! You hit the nail on the head. It’s the overcoming adversity and conquering fears/challenges that literally made me teary eyed as it’s something all of us can relate to. Very well done.....
This is one of the best videos ! As a commercial mechanic for 20’years and a pilot aircraft owner , for your wife to take this fear and take it over is just amazing to me and Jason being a awesome instructor makes me want to have him teach my wife. Makes me pretty emotional darn it. Keep it up! Makes me wanna see more. Family is what it’s about and you know this.
First you did a tremendous job. I am 40 and have been flying for just about 5 years but my whole life growing up in airplanes with my Dad as a now 54 year pilot. My Mom took a pinch hitter course with a CFII in the 90’s to do exactly what you are working toward. How inspiring. I remember my mom “getting it”… and in a B58 Baron. What a moment. Blue skies and keep working and enjoying it. All the best! 👍😎
Thanks for this! My wife has already watched the companion video to this and enjoyed it. She's had 3 in-flight and 3 or 4 Sim lessons so far, in the months leading up to and now several weeks since I got my PPL. She's not nearly as nervous about flying "out of the gate" as Poppins here, but still gets nervous when actually trying to fly the plane (we rent Diamond DA20's for now, maybe DA40's soon) herself, and has some challenges reconciling sight-picture changes to corrective stick movements without overshooting. Her in-flight instructor has been great (he also teaches a 9yo boy, I've seen them work together and he's very patient). She no longer drives - bad car accident years ago resulting in TBI and a forced retirement, still experiencing some difficulties - so activities like this are good for her anyway, in terms of getting her out of the house and trying new things, re-learning how capable she still is and can be, nevermind the advantages around being able to take over for me if I need to work some issue or worse.
That take-off smile is something you nor I will ever forget. I cant wait to see the day I watch the video of your first solo and passing your private ride.
This is a great pinch hitter video! The Commentary that Poppins adds to the video definitely made this video even better. So very proud of you to be able to not only face your fear but to be able to put it aside and take control of the situation. I feel this would be aspiring to all those out there that do experience the anxiety of flying with their spouse. I’ve always wondered if part of the anxiety is from not understanding how a plane works and what it takes to make her fly. Congratulations on achieving so much in a short period of time, you are doing really well! Maybe even better than some of those other student pilots. Have fun flying! Blue skies
Hi Eric! I've been trying to teach my wife but it does not seem to work very well for her. Jason was totally incredible, patient, and used fantastic analogies for interpretation. Kudos to your wife for doing such an incredible job controlling the airplane. I would love to do a course for my wife also! You guys have a great day and happy flying!
WOww.. your wife is a brave woman.. congrats!!.. My girlfriend is terrified about not only about airplanes but height itself.. so I was trying to picture her doing the same.. and to imagine the pressure on your wife's head, thinking about saving your kids.. it's amazing how good she did!!
As you said at the end of the video that when you develop the confidence that you are in control the fear disappears. When I got my license in early 1970 then got married in late 1970 I wanted my wife to know that she too could fly and land an airplane by herself. She agree to take lessons and completed 3 or 4 solo flights. She did great and this was an airport with 1800 foot runway. She never got her license but she did fly and land an airplane by herself.
It's such a great idea to give your wife a minimum of flight lessons, because nobody knows what could happen in the air, your next flights will feel so much safer now that you have someone able to fly the plane and land it safely, saving all your precious cargo that is your family. I mean, you inspired me to do the same when I'll get older, I think it's really something to do as soon as possible...
@@SoCalFlyingMonkey yeah for sure ! I remember the time you went paragliding and while entering the clouds she got more and more stressed of you being disoriented, I felt bad for her, but now watching her feeling more and more confident in flying ''Bravo Whiskey'' is...wahou, I'm so proud of her, congratulations !!
Yeah Popins! You know that’s going to need practice, just like riding a horse. It may not be Eric that gets sick, autopilot sometimes get ill. You can help Eric with flying duties, like radio, relief flying, while he navigates. You go Gal!
I don't even know you in real life but I am so proud of you! My husband got his PPL in August and we fly a lot with our two kiddos as well - I started flight training to know what to do in a worst case scenario and just completed my solo on Friday 5/28. Your feeling of dread, excitement and cursing is exactly how I have felt during my flight training. Can't wait to watch part 2 of this series.
Being a 170 + hour pilot in 172 -182 cessnas and not able to fly anymore because of the cost, I enjoyed and recommended this video. Even if your not a Flyer it was Great, Thank You for producing it. Larry
I’m also one who (up until today) has never commented on a video. As someone who often flies with a nervous-Poppin-esque spouse, I had an unexpected emotional reaction to this video. Extremely well done, all around. I will be sharing this with my wife.
@@poppinsh.7820 Watched again last night - this time with my wife. We started with the Sedona barf-bag episode just to get her oriented, then watched this one. Choked me up exactly as it had the first time. She was quiet at first, and then admired your courage and triumphs. She was curious about why it impacted me so strongly. All I could come up with was that I knew how nervous she gets, how much turbulence terrifies her, and how impactful the reality of the role playing was. It was all very authentic /real. There’s a lot at stake! Also wanted to share that when we first met (33 years ago) she was intrigued that I was a private pilot, “…always wanted to learn,” and I was intrigued that she grew up with horses, …I had never ridden one. Within our first few dates I took her flying, and we went horseback riding. So the horse analogy in the video also stood out for me. Seed planted, we’ll see where it goes from here. Thanks again for sharing your experiences - I look forward to seeing you land! Thanks too to Eric - REALLY enjoy the channel!

Super cool that she is able gain confidence. "The more you understand it, the less scary it becomes" is an amazing thought / concept. So love that whole aspect of tacking things that make you uncomfortable.
I'm a CFII (KSBP and KSMX) and watch Jason Miller's videos. I watched his video on training your wife. So fun! About a week later, a lady, Dolores called me. Her husband owns a Cherokee 6 at KSMX. She does not like to fly but saw your video and wanted me to train her just like Jason trained your wife. After seeing your wife, she thought she could over come her fear of fly. I do not have any Cherokee 6 time so I had refer her to my friend Scott : ( My wife liked your video too and is now asking for more training. Your videos are encouraging many people! Thank you.
Hey Poppins, you did an awesome job! I can tell how tough it was at first for you, but the more you got into it you could tell things were flowing better. This is an awesome story and experience to share with your family. Eric, once again amazing job with the videos! I always look forward to seeing your content. This is so emotional. See your face and her face when se take off. . Thus was by far the best episode. God Bless and protect you and your's 3 beautiful girls . Love ❤ you guys
I flew a cessna 172n with an instructor and I'll tell you what the entire time I kept looking in my peripheral to see if he was helping me not screw up my first couple 30 degree banks and every single time I saw his hands in his lap my heart rate skyrocketed. Cant imagine how bad it would be with anxiety issues so 10/10 for mamma Poppins doing so good.
Jason is one incredible flight instructor. The way he can explain things just blows my mind. What an amazing video, she did amazing. Can't wait for your next adventure!!
These Anxious types... Soon, you are going to go to your hanger and find out the plane is gone! and find out the wife took two redheads shopping. Now seriously, very cool and important episode. and the instructor is ACE.
Great Great Great Video!! Poppins did awesome! I'm going to show this and Jason's video to my wife. She just went up with me for the first time last month! I think this is a critical skill that needs to be developed in the case something tragic happens to keep it from an even bigger tragedy! GREAT JOB! You are right, it's not scary once you understand it. Or at least its not as scary!
Wow... This is great stuff. I just get excited seeing her getting a glimpse of actually flying. My life has been forever been changed since getting my PPL. Can't wait for part 2.
YOU GO POPPINS!!! Great job! Love Jason from Finer Points. Awesome that you got to colab. with him. I don;t know... I see a pilot in the future here...
That was so impressive. This video made me smile at the end. My father was in the military and we flew around all the time, then one day I became so scared of flying that it ended up consuming my life as I had to drive anywhere and going international was no longer an option. Then 9/11 happened and the fear solidified. I did not fly for over 20 years, but then I made a friend in Camarillo who owned a plane and he offered to take me around the pattern to see how it felt. This ended up getting me to take flying lessons and I have been flying ever since. International/Local/Regional/Whatever. When you learn to fly a plane and actually know what is going on it really frees you. This is awesome. Keep it up. Get your PPL :)
Great video, love the channel! Have been scouring RUclips aviation videos for a couple months, found this gem! With no flying experience, it’s great hearing you explain aviation, not just to your audience, but to your family onboard!
That was just awesome and very wise of you to enlist Jason's help. I think trying to teach your wife yourself could've added even more stress to a challenging situation. Well done all, but especially Poppins! Best moment is her take-off, the fear replaced by exhilaration.
You could do it if you had to Poppins. I've been watching these videos and feeling empathy for you, but in this one, the reality of the actual strength you have inside you is apparent. I was an aircraft mechanic for thirty-two years, and went on many many test flights of airliners after overhaul. Yet I never became a pilot myself, and guess why ? Because I was always afraid I'd mess up with air traffic control. You on the other hand, OMG. Seriously, I think you're the reason for Eric's success. God Bless you... and the family and home you've made.
This is exactly what I’ve been talking to my wife about... “what if something happened to me” when flying the 6. I just want her to have some stick time with an instructor to at least be able to get us to the ground safely. It’s not a beginner plane, but I’m only asking her for a ‘good enough’ landing. Thanks for recording this exact video. Also, thanks for Saint Aviation for turning me on to this channel.
Yeah the landing doesn't have to be a greaser. Just get down without stalling and put the wheels on the pavement at a low enough speed that the rest is survivable. Don't worry about the plane!
@@SoCalFlyingMonkey I’m not worried about the plane... the insurance company will own it at that point, but the wife, 3 kids, and dogs need to be able to walk. So yeah, just good enough is all I ask, and thanks again.
To watch someone with flying anxieties learn to fly, takeoff and attempt a landing within half an hour, and gain the confidence to enjoy flying is an amazingly emotional feat. Congratulations Ginny.
Dude, I think you might have a serious competitor for your channel in the making here... She's a great moderator and incredibly compelling... My wife won't touch the yoke either, though shes gotten comfortable enough to fall asleep while I'm flying... baby steps...;)
My wife won’t even fall asleep with driving let alone flying. Either way, never had any reason to worry, she usually sleeps before and immediately after our flights. 🤷♂️
This is a great video. Know how frightened you were when Eric first got an airplane. Look at you know....anxious to see the next video. Congratulations to you, Eric and Jason...shows what a awesome instructor Jason is to take a blue ribbon scaredy-cat and give her confidence AND get her to admit she actually enjoyed it.
Great video! As others have mentioned, my wife had similar fears about flying that were only amplified with the addition of two little ones to our family. I'm a single engine CFI and while we had a single I was letting her fly as much as possible and logging her hours. She was almost able to land and she made a darn good autopilot when I needed to look for something or needed to write something down. When we bought the 310 her fears came back due to the increased complexity. On an unofficial basis (I am not a MEI) I figured I'd show her that everything she learned in the single was applicable to twin flying except there are another set of engine controls. So far she might be better flying the twin and has about 2 almost landings on video. She is a much less nervous flyer now and I feel less stressed knowing that she could be talked down and at least crash land on the runway with everyone surviving if I was incapacitated.
Lots of encouragement and positive comments. GOOD! The horse analogy was a good one, something she's already familiar with reinforces the idea that the horse (plane) may have ideas of their own, but YOU'RE in control of it, not the other way around. Excellent teaching technique.
Glad to hear I'm not the only one with tears in my eyes! I was totally feeling her emotions...and loving her transition from terror to joy! GREAT video! Great job Jason!
I'm a fan of your videos, so thank you for doing them and thank you for being transparent. My uncle introduced me to flying. He had a plane prior to getting married and his wife felt the same way your wife seems to, so she never joined him and they were both ok with that. My wife knew flying was my dream and in the same manner gave me the OK, but she didn't want anything to do with it. As I got more serious with passing my written and planning for it, I realized that my wife was quietly stressed out as I got closer to making flying a reality. The first thing I did was to get my life insurance in place. Long story short, due to several reasons I decided to not fulfill my dream. The primary reason was that it wasn't worth putting my family through such stress every time I went up. I chose to marry her and I am good with deciding not to fly because in the end she is my best friend and I can't live with the knowledge that I am causing her to worry so much about me. Everyone has their own story, this is just mine.
The best way to overcome a fear is learning about what you fear and why you fear it. When you know more about your fear, you can learn how to defeat it. Ignorance creates fear. Knowledge creates confidence.
This is fantastic on so many levels! I’ve been a huge fan of “Stick and Rudder” for many years and have given numerous copies away to fellow pilots! It is also an amazing accomplishment to tackle something like this that obviously causes much anxiety and stay with it until it is mastered. My hat is off to all of you for tackling this endeavor!! I am looking forward to Part 2!!
I may have teared up a little to see Poppins actually enjoy these flights. I have to hand it too you, you are an awesome storyteller. You tell the stories, I visualize, and only wish that came across this good. My wife really only tolerates flying. I don't know if she would ever go for the flight lesson gig. But, I'll be showing her this one. More importantly, I'll be mentioning these inspirational videos on my channel. You inspire me to encourage other in this thing we do called Aviation. Great job on knocking this out of the park!
I've been a follower of Jason Miller and The Finer Points for many years, and that brought me here. I watched his version, loved it, and had to see your version. Ginny, it took a lot of strength to do what you have done... it took a lot of strength to share it with all of us... and we are all grateful for it. You, Eric and Jason have created something very powerful and genuine here, and I'm certain it will benefit many people (including yourself) for many years to come. Thank you for this. I wish you, Eric and your children many rewarding years of safe flying... and long happy lives.

I hope you come to love it and get more comfortable with it! Really really inspiring story! I've been watching both you and Jason's channel for some time (honestly spend more time on TFP simply because one is always learning)) and this have been an amazing pair of videos. Congratulations to you Poppins for taking this on, and you guys could not have found a better instructor, Jason's in a league all his own. Really looking forward to Part II.
You're doing a great job, addressing your concerns over flying - overcoming that feeling of being out of control. I have Stick and Rudder (book) as well. That's the Gold Standard. Haven't met Jason, but I've been around a bunch of CFI's, and his presence/ability appears to be RockStar. You did outrageously well. I'm looking forward to seeing a video after first solo - you definitely have this.
Great video! My bride watched from start to finish along with a fellow pilot and his wife that we’re here for the holiday. I think my bride may do some full motion sim to start the process. This video did raise her interest , especially since we experienced an engine out and subsequent off airport landing in 2018. I am going to get her started on learning about our new plane.

4:30. Who's cutting the onions? What a powerful moment for both of you. Wow
13:14 was another really great moment!

My girlfriend is terrified about not only about airplanes but height itself.. so I was trying to picture her doing the same.. and to imagine the pressure on your wife's head, thinking about saving your kids.. it's amazing how good she did!!
she is brave and amazing for doing it. she was a natural!
I mean, you inspired me to do the same when I'll get older, I think it's really something to do as soon as possible...
we have been meaning to do this for awhile. I feel a lot better knowing she has some flying skills in case something happens!
This channel needs millions of subscribers. Great video. Real, emotional, raw, exciting, terrifying, triumphal. Fantastic.
I agree. LOL but seriously thank you for the nice comment!
Thanks for the comment. Hope she enjoys it too!
Let us know how she responds, please!
@@pfflyer great response! Thanks so much for letting us know!!! I hope it inspires her to take a similar course. And thanks for complimenting Eric - it’s the fuel that keeps him going! (Pun intended)
I've seen many of your videos. However, THIS one is the one that made me subscribe. So proud out you!!! Overcoming such a deep fear must be tough. But look at you! You CAN do this. Besides it is a wise and prudent thing that could very well save your loved ones.
KEEP GOING and BELEAVE in YOURSELF and your TRAINING! Remember to every so often to work on this with your husband. So happy and proud of you!
Blue Skys and Tailwinds
Thanks for this nice comment! Hope you enjoy the back catalogue and future videos as well!
Congratulations both of you! Grass Valley is a great place for beginners it was the home to Chuck Yeager. hope you got to say hello to Juan Browne of Blancolirio.
This is one of the best flying vids I've ever seen. Emotion, heart, seriousness, gravity, purpose, work, failure, success. Bravo.
Wow, thank you! we really appreciate it. Glad you found the video! More in Part 2 on the channel.. :)
Finally watched your video. Awesome work Ginny! Great idea Eric to teach her the basics of landing!
Great video! Thanks so much for this. I frequently fly with my non-pilot wife and we watched this video together. Poppins, you did great, so awesome to see you conquering those fears and pushing through them!!!
So good to see you happy 😊! Thanks for making the video, my wife feels the same way and I will show her this video !
Ils not even a pilot yet but this is definitely something to have in mind. Such a great instructor and an awesome video it puts so much into perspective. Thank you for sharing!
He is a great CFI indeed. Thank you. :)
One of the best videos yet! An extremely important topic and so impressed with Poppins for taking on this challenge...Bravo!!
Thanks for the support! :)
very well done! I like the fixed point on the windscreen trick
Thank you.
What we need the most is often hiding in the darkest place. Great job I was so excited for you!
very true!
Hey Poppins, you did an awesome job! I can tell how tough it was at first for you, but the more you got into it you could tell things were flowing better. This is an awesome story and experience to share with your family.
Eric, once again amazing job with the videos! I always look forward to seeing your content. The story telling, music, framing/composition, and editing is always top notch. Can’t wait for Part 2!
Thank you so much!! Part 2 coming soon... I appreciate the encouragement!
What incredible bravery and fortitude for Ginny to take on such a terrifying prospect head on and invite the world to watch. I'm so proud of her and I don't even know her. Huge RESPECT!
Cant imagine how bad it would be with anxiety issues so 10/10 for mamma Poppins doing so good.
yeah she did so well!
Two words come to mind. Awesome and Inspirational.
Omg... Best video ever!!!! Was like watching a child take it's first steps with tears of joy. Keep up the amazing work you will running in no time
The feeling she's expressing I can relate to as a pilot. I still get the feeling when flying. Glad to see content like this, Great job!
Jason was so kind and confident, and paced the lessons for her. Bravo!
he was amazing. He deserves the awards he has received for his CFI work.
Seeing that ear to ear smile of the first takeoff made me follow suit. Such an awesome experience!
Thanks for the encouragement. Jason is awesome...and we will see if she continues on with flying more.. :)
Wow! This is an amazing story! Thanks for sharing ❤️
This might be the best video you have made, and that’s saying a lot since all your videos are fantastic. Safe flying
Thanks so much - I really appreciate that!!
"I've got two children on board". That's when I lost it.
Me too 🥺
It boils down to being a bit selfish because you want to live too. ;)
That's when I lost it too. I just pictured my children in the back of the plane.
Me too, and I wasn't expecting it at all.
Very brave! Glad you guys are collaborating with Jason.
Us too!
I love how your videos always tell a story.
Thank you! I definitely try. :)
😂 thanks!
Aww, daddy bear 🐻! Thanks so much. I know YOU know this wasn’t easy for me. Thank you for pushing me to get this under my belt ❌⭕️
Great video. The guy's a legend! Also, I know it's your job, but the production values on your videos are amazing. Puts the amateurs to shame
That sounds amazing! Thanks for sharing this!
Lots of encouragement and positive comments. GOOD! The horse analogy was a good one, something she's already familiar with reinforces the idea that the horse (plane) may have ideas of their own, but YOU'RE in control of it, not the other way around. Excellent teaching technique.
This is a really powerful moment, I am SO proud to see this! She did so well! This made me misty eyed with pride and love! So great!
Great stuff! Really liking your guys channel. One of the better aviation channels I’ve ran across so far 👌
Thanks! Glad you are enjoying it!
No idea why but I am sitting in front of my computer in absolute tears watching this. You did it, Poppins!
Glad to hear I'm not the only one with tears in my eyes! I was totally feeling her emotions...and loving her transition from terror to joy! GREAT video! Great job Jason!
Outstanding! I plan to do the same with my wife and daughter, it's critical to learn the basics.
Great video! Good idea doing this training the difference from the start to how you where at the end was amazing. The way he trains is so good
Awesome content. Seeing Jason take someone who is literally terrified of flying and get them comfortable in the plane is priceless.
Excellent video!!! Love being a Patreon member.
Thank you so much for this comment. It means a lot to us to know that you enjoyed the video and connected with it in this way.
E, I always enjoy watching your videos while on my FSX real mode! This was dope af
Awesome, thank you!
Great video and great job by your wife! She is incredibly strongm overcoming all these fears and emotions and just doing the job. Really incredible what she pulled off after just two days.
One of your best! So awesome to see her take control of the fear and have fun, almost! Congratulations and hope to see you get your license next!
Poppins' reaction to her approaches had me a bit emotional. Hard to hear the gravity of those "what-ifs" set it. Thank you so much for sharing Eric.
SO glad it resonated with you. Thank you for the support!
Good for you Poppins! This was a great idea and glad it gave you some more confidence in yourself and the aircraft.
I'm so proud, god RUclips is so great right now. I'm glad I found this incredible channel and family!
Jason is truly the GOAT of instructors!
That one takeoff will hook you for life! Think you have a future PIC there! Awesome content.
This story LITERALLY brings tears to my eyes! It makes me so proud and happy to see Ginny overcome her fear and accomplish such an incredible goal! I hope you come to love it and get more comfortable with it! Really really inspiring story! I know there are plenty of people that feel the same way about small airplanes and I'm just so impressed with how you conquered your fear!
Literally, I was balling tears by the end of this video.
(Though I did cheat and watched part 2 first 🙃)
Such and incredibe story! You have become an incredible role model for people with a fear of small airplanes! 🙏🙏
Thank you so much for the kind comments. We love that this connected with you- thanks for letting us know!
Your wife is truly amazing. Overcoming anxiety and getting stuff done anyway is the true definition of bravery. Nice watch you guys thanks!
This is the best video you've ever made. So many feelings watching this. I need to do this for my wife in my plane.
Great video! I watched it here and at The Finer Points. Good job, Jenny! I am sure you have inspired many!
Love this! I’m taking my private pilot checkride at Lincoln!
hope it goes well!!!
This is AWESOME!!! I hope she will do it!
I smiled so much through the introduction and it just continued. Strong upload - great content - Thank you both for the authenticity!
