  • The Albright knot is an overlooked knot because it got a bad rep for slipping. But if tied properly, it doesn't slip and it is thinner than the preferred Alberto knot.
    Three key tips to tie better Albright knots:
    1. Use more line so you have longer tag end to help you tighten the knot easier or even use tools
    2. Tighten multiple times including the tag end! Start with the main braid line, then the tag end, and finally do the main braid line one more time!
    3. MOISTER THAN AN OYSTER! Wet that line, especially those thin ones!
    Bonus tip: go practice a lot! Knot tying is important. One must have the dexterity to tie properly at good speed as the fish don't wait! Grab a few rolls and tie knots as you are watching TV or in a long phone conference!

    Finally the long awaited BFS leader knot video. Is the Albright knot better than the slim beauty knot for BFS line?
    Great tip on how many wraps and how to cinch the knot.

      Yes! Strong if ppl know how to tie it! Very underrated since people don't know why it slips, but if one know... It is easily correctable and it can be a very trusty knot!

    For light lines I usually use the Crazy Alberto, which is similar but a bit more complicated. Gotta give the Albright a try again. What are those line tightening handles called and where did you get them? I know salt water, big game anglers use them a lot.

      there is a 5 percent coupon too. So click that! The blue one was on sale so I nabbed it!
      Alberto Knie really liked this knot, but to cast those heavier lures, he wrapped less going up, but made it going back down and it sure is strong! Just bigger knot.
      The key for Albright knot not to slip is 10 wraps, tighten the main braid first, then tag end, then finally the main line again! Most ppl don't pull the tag end nor wet the line.. That's the fatal flaw for this type of knot as it may loosen up and slip. So that's why having extra Line on the braid is import! It helps anglers tighten the line properly.
      One can do a rizzuto finish as a final touch if they wanted to with the extra tag end.

    Why does my thin braid always snap when using this knot?
    It feel like my braid become weaker compared to using double uni knot

    • @rawrfishing
      @rawrfishing  Год назад

      How and when does it snaps?
      Double uni knot snaps more often due to the nature of how it keeps tightening... But I will need more info. If it ever snaps, it likely because it's over tightened

    I used to tie the alberto knot and currently tie the fg knot. I might try this knot but I feel like I'll get something wrong. So in order to tie it properly you need to pull it really tight at the end (after wetting), or else it will slip, but you also can't over-tighten it?

    • @rawrfishing
      @rawrfishing  Год назад +1

      The FG knot is one of the highest demanding knowledge and patience knot out there. I feel that if you know how to tie that, the Albright knot is gonna be cake!
      Key to tying this knot is to also tighten the tag end of the braided line. So wet the line, pull main line on both leader and braid, then go pull the main line on the leader line and the tag end of the braid, then finally pull the main line of both leader and braid. Trim and go fish!

      that's pretty much what I do! the night before my trips, i would tie an FG knot as I can tie a longer leader that should last the entire trip. maybe even 2.. but if i need to tie on the water, that means I want to spend more less time tying and more time casting and fishing! #thefishdontwait ;)

    I'm interested in the blue line gripping tool you are using to pull down tight on the lines. I want to get one to tie the Albright. Found them online in sizes Small 4.54" and Large 7.17". I'm thinking the Small size is right for simple home use. What size gripping tool are you using in this video and recommend?

    And if tied improperly it considerably reduces strength of the braid which is quite critical on thin braids. Plus the knot doesn't go well through the rings. FG is the king

      As a knot fanatic, there are no knots I can dub as king of knots. Every knot got pros and cons. Fg knot is only good when tied properly and we all know how hard it is to tie it! But if it works for u, enjoy

    • @pacman_17
      @pacman_17 Год назад

      I use FG knot on everything. But 10lb (0.28mm diameter) leader is already at it's limits. Because thinner leader lines aren't stiff enough and too fragile for cinching down on the coils. You have to use another leader knot for thin leader line, 8lb test or less.

    • @rawrfishing
      @rawrfishing  Год назад +1

      I pretty much tie FG knot every trip from the start... well mainly the night before. by the time i run out of line and need to retie, i use knots like albright as it's fast and easy. #thefishdontwait

    • @pacman_17
      @pacman_17 Год назад +1

      @@rawrfishing same. I use tools to tie the FG knot at home for 20 to 30 lb braid reels. The leader is long enough where it will last 3 trips. I rarely break off the leader.

      @@pacman_17 - I did well with FG knots going from a 10lb J8 to both a 6 & 8 lb mono leader breaking the leader twice on snags with no issues on the knot. However, using the PowerPro super slick 8lb braid on 4/6/8 lb lines and the weak point has been the knot each and every time. I've felt like the coating was the issue but perhaps I need to look at a different knot for lite and ultra lite gear.

    Why the Albright instead of an Alberto? Do you feel the Albright is thinner?

    • @rawrfishing
      @rawrfishing  Год назад

      It's certainly thinner and that's the reason. It doesn't slip if you tie it properly. Alberto knot is an improved version, but it doesn't come without cost of being thicker

    What's your view of Albright vs Yucatan?

    • @rawrfishing
      @rawrfishing  Год назад

      Yucatan is strong if tied right... But it's too thick and it's not a good not for thin stuff as you gotta pull super tight to get it to cinch properly. Wetting the lines for that one is super crucial

    I’ve got a question for you I am considering 6 foot 4 lite action rod or a 6 foot 6 medium light which of these would you think would work better for 5 gram+ lures I’m throwing zman heads and small plastics. And I’m leaning towards the medium light since I will be targeting one and a half to 2 pound smallmouth your input would be very appreciative. Thanks.

    • @rawrfishing
      @rawrfishing  Год назад +1

      I would use the ML likely if it's smallies in rivers. While most L rods can handle 5 grams easily, but seems like there are opportunity for heavier lures, right? Like perhaps close to 10 or even the 14 g? Most ML goes that high

    • @bradybolyard8474

      @@rawrfishing To make matters worse there are lots of popular FG knot videos on youtube that come apart under pressure. There are well over 5 different variations of the FG knot on youtube. FG knot is very demanding. most ppl don't understand the importance of tightening tag end of the braid. pulling just the main lines may tighten the knot where the mainlines joins, but the very tail end by the tag end may not be 100% tightened. over time, the loose end will distribute throughout the knot and boom! knot failure!
