Very good video for those thinking of doing this. It's just my opinion - but I prefer the OE black on my silver '22 Premium. I have no plans to swap them out.
I've gotten used to them, but still not the biggest fan. How exactly does it give it more of a rally look though? No rally cars have this plastic cladding.
@@ivanfajdetic2605 “rally/offroad-ish” Emphasis on the ‘ish’ Maybe you’re right, and there haven’t been any black-fender’d rally cars. But the black fenders give it an offroad car look. Offroad cars tend to be rally cars 🤷♂️
I am one of those people who like the OEM style, but that looks alright. I guess it depends on the color of the car if the black looks good or not. Mine is rally blue so it looks great IMO. Also, I think people are getting used to the new styling as I see it on other brand cars as well. Man, I remember painting my wheels black many years ago and now is considered a premium package.
Pre-ordered these flares couple weeks ago. Crossing my fingers that I can tuck a 275/35R18 on a 10" with +45 with coilovers set to 26.75" arch height (-.50" from stock), -3.1 camber front, and -1.8 camber rear. Will be about 5mm from the shock and poke out 29mm more than stock. Tire flex will be the big question since my CAD mock up estimates about .090 clearance as the tire sweeps past the fender lip before trimming. Have a cheap wheel and tire on the way to test fit 🤞
Looking great! I know the factory fenders bother many, I really like them but, the more we make our cars unique to our tastes (in this bubble-SUV world) the better! Keep up the great content, Happy Thanksgiving!
I was also hesitant because the unpainted flares worked in my favor. I have a one-mile gravel road to my house. I installed PPF on my painted flares, and they’ve held up pretty well. There are no paint chips, and if you get a good-quality PPF, it holds up really well. I highly recommend it.
@LAAO369 That's actually a good idea I will probably keep the honeycomb because I think it looks good with my white VB with the tints but if I ever decide to change it up completely I will do that thanks.
A detailing brand called koch chemie makes a product called eulex and it works wonders with minor adhesive. I'm sure it would help with the adhesive strip left on the car as well.
@HeavyMetalWRX I was scared with the wheel because I used it on my 93 Caprice prior and it peeled the paint right off 🤣 Did you use the rubber or wax adhesive wheel?
I thought I like these at first. Pre ordered a set after having issues with AFD in the past. Sent me a jacked up package that was bruised up and several shades off being anywhere close toa "paint match". anyway, it was a whole ordeal. Glad I kept the gray cladding. Its grown on me. Eventually I might do a Pandem kit. They have some stuff available now on their website for teh VB. Looks really good. I havnt looked at what the wheel specs would need to be to fit but it looks like it would need wide and a lot of offset and probably spacers. What are your thoughts?
Material flying around? Try to street park in Manhattan! :P Anyway, looks gorgeous man. Thanks for the sick content and hope to see you at Subifest NE!

Aw man I wish you asked about the double sided tape part... You should have bought some 3M specialty adhesive remover. Would make SHORT work with thay double sided tape... 😅
@HeavyMetalWRX it's definitely a route that works! It just makes a big mess like you said and if it's in an exposed area you want to polish the paint afterwards.
I'm okay with the OEM fender flares... but just wish that the rear bumber's top portion would be paint matched. AFD offers that, too. What's your take?
@@preventer333 honestly I have to see it in person. I know many that have painted the bumper but I've only ever seen it in pictures. Hopefully someone in my community gets the kit so I can Install it and see haha.
I just did mine, and i hated how the front removed the lower black portion, so i cut it off, and it retains the black trim around the bottom of the car. i took my time, and it was about 3 hours total
I just don't trust the clear coat on these aftermarket parts. Wider fenders would be nice for something like 18x9.5 +35. Fighting the urge to spend $2000 on Enkei racing wheels because I think something like 18x9 +40 would be perfect with 255. Mostly flush with the fenders, but only about 8MM away from suspension compared to stock
@@treyadkins8950 that's actually the question I asked myself while I was editing. Jordan did clean where the 3m take was with isopropyl but we should have wiped it all down honestly.
These modern cars if you needed to “roll the fenders” seems you might resort to using an angle grinder or dremel to cut plastic. Wonder if anyone has resorted to that? Cutting things on any car isn’t exactly comfortable especially on a new car even if it’s just components like the flares
Seriously though wtf was Subaru thinking when they gave us these flairs. Yes I bought the car. I love my car but the two major things I hate. The flairs and infotainment crappy iPad they gave us.

Personally I like the black oem. I think it gives it more of a rally/offroad-ish look. Great video man!
I prefer the stock black flares for stock height or lifted.
But paint matched flares look 10x better than stock flares on lowered WRX’s.
I am with you. Especially on white it looks great.

I did mine on a hot day and the tape pretty much just peeled off. I used some isopropyl alcohol to clean the rest up.
