Neurodiverse Friends - Manic or Hyperactive?

- Welcome back to "Neurodiverse Friends" with Pixi & co. - Cats on the Spectrum! With Pixi, Aspy, Bipo, and Mania playing video games, let's explore the key differences between ADHD and Bipolar Disorder, two often confused but distinct conditions. ADHD is a processing disorder characterized by hyperactivity, impulsivity, and attention difficulties, whereas Bipolar Disorder is a mood disorder marked by intense mood swings, including manic and depressive episodes. I hope you enjoy it.

Oh yeah, ADHD being entirely focused on the game and then stops to just walk around, I do that all the time!
Me too, except I’m often doing it IN the game as well!
Nah because sometimes I do this or it can get worse. I could hyper fixate and not even god himself could get me off my computer 😭
me too
Yes, ME TOO!!
@@elementaldiaries1516
I feel that, I get hyperfixated a lot. Is it normal to get hyperfixated in my own head? Like thoughts that I can't stop thinking about, maybe an issue that just keeps haunting me and hanging around in my brain for days (weeks) at a time?
I love how autism is more than happy to keep doing the same thing for a long time. I vibe with that so much.
As an actual autistic person, i relate.
@@Jucian Same here.
As an autistic person that sums up how I roll. If I am doing something I like, I’m fine to just go on and on.
Me, autistic, binging an entire multi-season series over a few days. Sometimes it's nice to hunker down and just do one thing, envelop yourself in it ^^
@@MadAliceInWonderland That’s me with Transformers Prime. I’ve rewatched the entire series 14 times already.
Autism is just casually gaming and literally everyone else is freaking out over something
That’s because we Aspies keep it real 😎 (most of the time)
As someone with autism myself, i can relate to this.
Same, I have Asperger Syndrome and ADHD, but usually not too hyper. When I was in the video game club at my college campus, most of the people were wild, loud, and pretty much said some weird stuff, while me and a friend would be in the background just playing our game.
I used to hyper focus on video games and my parents would be like "the only thing moving are your hands..."
My brain was like, must save all energy for WINNING.

I just hate it when the TV explodes after playing too hard.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts, @logankennedy4525! I'm glad to hear that. I used the exploding screen to illustrate that people with bipolar disorder don’t just shift randomly between mania and depression; there are often reasons for these mood changes. Wishing you all the best!

Hi @ponkypink3147! I’m glad you appreciate how Bipo and Mania represent bipolar disorder-I wanted to show that the shifts have a reason or cause. It’s wonderful to hear that you find Pixi to be a relatable representation of someone with ADHD. Thanks for your kind words! ❤🌼

Hi @mileetah! I’m glad you appreciate the variety of emotions portrayed in this episode. Thanks for your insightful comment! 💖😺

Whats the books name?

Ooh that's lovely but please use content from creators with those other neurodivergencies instead as a reference! Pixi generally gets the neurodivergencies down well but when writing it's important to refer to the primary source rather than a secondary source. It's the most respectful thing to do to our fellow neurodivergent people ^^
As far as I know Pixi has autism and adhd but not the other neurodivergencies.
Good luck with your book!!

@@alwayrember193 they're talking about the new characters, they use to have different designs
I love the redesigns! It makes them look more like just angsty tweens going through a phase or style instead of looking closer to a stereotype💛 i also love how you show the symptoms, not demonizing anyone with disorders while having episodes or symptoms. Its really cool to see the subtle aspecs of it too, like how aspy stays focused on the game throughout the video and how the twins's depressive state is caused by the TV breaking, instead of being completely random.

You are most welcome, @sunflowerspirited4974! I am glad you like their new design! ❤
I definitely feel like these designs mesh better with the universe :) the crash after the happy bounces is very accurate. Very high highs and very low lows. I'm glad someone is there to help Bipo and Mani regulate
I am ADHD, and I love this series. I also serve as the leader/problem solver of my friend group.
One minor inaccuracy, when an ADHD person is hyper focusing, we can outlast pretty much everyone and have no idea how much time has passed.
Hi @benjaminmarshall5071! I’m glad to hear that you love the series and that it resonates with you. Thank you for pointing out the nuance about hyperfocus-it’s definitely true that when someone with ADHD is deeply engaged in something, they can lose track of time completely. I appreciate your input and will keep this in mind for future episodes. All the best to you and your friends! 😺☘
It looked like they got overstimulated (thus the pacing) and then the exhaustion from breaking a long hyperfocus kicked in.
Yeah i was also confused how they just tuckered out. Few days ago i spent... upwards of 10 hours playing ck3. 7 am. I also spent 3 hours straight when i found an animated series on youtuhe between 2 and 5 am back in 2020
Yeah, I was confused about that. I'm medicated, but if I'm enjoying something or get fixated with something, I'm sticking with that thing for as long as I can. Maybe I'll have to give up and drop it if I'm not making any progress with it (like if it's a problem I'm trying to solve), but you'd bet I'm still thinking about it and coming back to it multiple times like a stubborn animal.
Then again, maybe the cat got bored partway through and lost interest after overcoming a tough challenge and nothing else in the game compared to that challenge, so the fixation just broke.
For me, it really depends on what else is going on and how interested I personally am with something. I can focus entirely on some video games and keep playing for hours, but I can get really distracted and restless as well, especially with some movies for some reason. But even that isn't consistent
I can also really resonate with having tons of energy when doing something and then just crashing as soon as I am no longer actively engaged with something
I like these designs more than the old ones. Honestly, I just appreciate that you were willing to listen to community feedback at all! Too many RUclipsrs/content creators just don’t really care or listen, and when it comes to something like portraying neurodivergence, listening to the people who actually have it is one of the best things you can do!! Keep up the great work :)
Hi @TomGhoulerie! I’m really glad you like the new designs! Listening to those with lived experiences is very important to me, and your support and recognition mean a lot. Thank you so much! 💖☘
I continue to love that adhd and autism have things of each other like the toys, and now the clothes of each other
All these videos have the characters doing things and displaying traits that only those with the disorders or knowledgeable with them will get, none of it is signposted, and honestly, I find that amazingly refreshing. In mainstream media a lot of neurodivergance is focused on single "popular" parts of a disorder or is steeped in outdated clichés.
Thank you, @felinusfeline5559! I really appreciate your comment! It’s important to me to represent neurodivergence in a way that resonates with those who have those traits. I’m glad you find it refreshing and authentic. Your support means a lot, and I’m glad you enjoy my content! 💖

You knocked this one out of the park! I loved everything about this: the slight tweaks to Bipo and Mania's designs, the contrast and similarities between their behavior and Pixi/Aspy's, the TV just blowing up at the end, just about everything! I recently showed these animations to my stepmother, and she told me that she couldn’t wait for you to cover bipolar disorder, a condition she herself has, so i’ll send this to her and report back her thoughts! You did incredible as always!

Gasp! A depiction of mania and Bipolar 1 that wasn't dehumanizing/demonizing??
Thank you. Truly. It means a lot for me to see this kind of content. Bipolar 1 can be a terribly isolating condition, and it is easy for me to give in to that... This short series on RUclips has really explained to me more about myself than I can imagine, I’ve had adhd ever since I was born, and these animations about cats are by far the most relatable and accurate portrayals of adhd I’ve ever seen, and it’s helped me learn about other Neurodiverse conditions that people can have without them being portrayed in a negative light, like how this animation is one of the first I’ve seen of bipolar disorder without it being shown as compulsively violent or cruel, it a a breath of fresh air seeing these syndromes being show as something that isn’t the harmful stereotype, thank you.

For real now, if I had the means I would become a member and support your work! You totally deserve it. I never had any creator I follow to pay attention to my feedback and actually incorporate it. You are an amazing artist and and amazing person! Your work is so meaningful to me and a lot of people. I feel that your cute animations will help people like me to be seen as more human. As I bipolar type 1, I have dealt with so much prejudice. This makes me feel so seen. Keep doing what you do and thank you!
Thanks for your kind words, @fjjdfgdlnjftsqf1279! Knowing that you find my work meaningful is incredibly rewarding. I’m sorry to hear about the prejudice and negativity you’ve faced - I understand how tough that can be.
People often react out of fear and instinct, not conscious choice. This is because of our limbic system, which is the part of the brain involved in our behavioral and emotional responses, especially when it comes to survival. When someone encounters something or someone different, it can trigger their limbic system, causing a fear response. This fear can make them react negatively or with prejudice, even if there is no real threat.
So, try not to take it personally. Their reactions are more about their own fears and conditioning than about you. I’m glad my series helps you feel seen. Take care and stay strong! ❤

While I miss the old designs, I can understand why some people may not see it the way I do, and that's ok.
I appreciate that, @VixTheNinetales! There was a lot of input, but I’m glad it helped me finalize Bipo and Mania’s design in a way that is both relatable and original. Thanks for your kind words! ✌☘
I love the redesigns!! They fit in with the rest of the cast way better now!! Great work as always!
