- I've been creating digital art for about 9 years! (holy cow...) and I've learned a few things along the way. Today I'm taking a look back and my first, redrawing it, and summarizing some of my favorite tips or tricks when it comes to creating my digital illustrations.

I'm gunna be real, the old one straight up looks like something out of an old educational computer game, like, she's definitely be showing you how to use math in some "fun" way.

Anyone realised the eyebrow from the old one is inversed? Like: instead of the bigger side be at the beginning it's on the end 😂
i meant to mention that in the voice over! hahahahaha I thought it was hilarious! especially since eyebrows have become such a favorite of mine to draw and seeing where i started. haha
@@drawingwiffwaffles the worst part is that i've done an eyebrow like that once and i had a mind blown! Eyebrows are funny to play with but please let's not draw them inversed...it's weird and ugly

The best way to explain layers is by using shrek.
Ogres have layers
Onions have layers
Digital art has layers
Therefore they are shrek.
By that logic Cake, Humans, and The Earth are all Shrek.

i love how confident your style's gotten ! one small observation: the foot and knee always face the same direction. try it yourself in real life, it's not possible to turn your foot away that much from your knee without breaking your leg ; - )

Unless you’re a gymnast who can turn feet outwards to the sides
That and the hands kind of look a little mitten-y and off, still drawn very nicely though
@@a7xmaNga No. Its psychically impossible. In the circumstance you're talking about the swivel is at the hip so what Elle said still applies. Try and stand and do it.
My feet do that because my Tibias are rotated outwards. So it should not happen to normal people, but it happens to me
my old drawings were so cringy, especially my digital ones! Took me a lot to transition from traditional to digital. I found I got a lot better quickly with practice (and a better tablet...)
I was so worried that I needed a perfect tablet when if first bought mine, so much so that I spent all my money on it. it was like $250 at the time. almost ten years ago. but I still use it. so it was a great investment! Looking back, I probably didn't need that nice of a tablet. but seeing how its held up. i cant complain!

Waffles for president
To any new digital artists out there getting frustrated: It takes so much practice to get comfortable with doing digital art. A lot of people starting out don’t really realize how different it is from traditional art and can tend to get frustrated when their drawings don’t turn out the way they want. It’s a completely new medium and it’s gonna take a while to get used to. But with time and practice your gonna be great! Don’t give up!!
I started digital only a year after traditional, and sketching in traditional is still sooo much easier 😭 looks ten times better too lmao so frustrating
I am so happy to see your video and while watching the video I had to go get a pencil and my journal to practice and also to redraw my old drawings.

Thanks! and yeah, I have a lot of my old files. I've only ever owned 3 computers in my whole life. so Its been pretty easy to keep track of the files. :)

Digital art is always gonna be a major part of my art journey. I love it so much. and my hands stay clean. hehe
It brings me comfort seeing your first attempts at digital art. Mostly because around the same time your picture was made, that was when I was starting out too. While I've drawn for years, on and off, that was the time I really got serious about it. That I began putting my all into it. And seeing you start of from the same place, at the same time, is comforting. There is more about your art that I think is further head of mine, in many respects, when it comes to what you currently do. But I think that's more from you giving yourself the allowance to experiment with techniques and ideas. You seem to allow yourself to mess up, and brush it off as 'I'll do better next time' and move on. And that's great. Seeing your videos, and seeing you allow yourself to try new things... It makes me want to try being more adventurous too. So thank you for that.
You know what sucks about old drawings? When you remember one you were super proud of back then, but it's lost forever due to constant computer switching and corrupted USB files 😭😂
You have definitely inspired me to pick art back up and seeing your old work compared to your new work fills me with hope for a better me 😍 I am so glad that I found your channel!

You should definitely do redraws more often! They’re so interesting to watch and so motivational as it shows how much you can improve over time!
I've just noticed in the old painting, the eyebrows are back to front

It’s really amazing to see how much you’ve improved! I love the colors now vs the old ones. One thing I would note on though is that the nose looks a little odd with the way the rest of the face is drawn since is more detailed. Could just be a stylistic choice but I wanted to point that out. Love what you’re doing!
anyone bothered by the right leg? I think the knee and foot should face the same direction. Still really good illustration though

In a way, this looks like it could become a series, redrawing old art while explaining different features or techniques for people that wish to draw digital.

@@amygreen4945 Ok this is a weird reply from me but your name freaked me out, because when I was like 8 or 9 I used to pretend my name was Amy Green, and like my name has nothing to do with that name it was just a random name I came up with so seeing someone actually called that shooked me.
Going through old art always makes me feel alot better about my current art. It shows that even though I might feel like my current art is garbage its alot better than it used to be and will probably continue to improve.
That always gave me hope when I was low too. I wish you the best of luck as you continue to improve! sometimes we don't notice the improvement until we look back at where we came from.
How do you record the screen? I really want to start recording myself draw but I'm not sure how to record the screen exactly like that ☺
You using MSpaint nine years ago is surprisingly solid. The proportions (to my untrained eye) and shape of the hands and the distinction between the hair curls is excellent.
I'm writing this before watching your redraw, so it'll be interesting to see your skill at present compared to before.
Edit: Ah, I see where the improvement is: Dynamism. Your new stuff is way more confident and dynamic. Awesome to see.

This should remind to every new artists on not giving up. If not, why not think "If I keep going, what will be my art style after a decade? Am I good at traditional or digital or both? Do I have a style of realism or cartoonism? Do many recognized my hard work?"
I actually had a silly thought on meeting my future self to see of my futre art style, but I preferred a surprise. :)

It’s crazy how the old one looks like it’s drawn by a different person. Now each face seems to be similar which makes me sad cause I like how different your drawings are from mine and I like to see other peoples styles in different forms. Be confident in changing it up. You’re so good

There’s obviously a ton of improvement here, but I love the hair on the old one. I’ve seen hair that looks like that when curled, especially if you only curl certain sections of the hair. Both drawings are really cute and you’ve definitely come a long way!

Your style inspires my style so much
Watching your videos, you never really realize (unless you do digital art) how much effort goes into it. Especially when you're explaining it all. My ex-fiance tried to teach me digital art a couple of years back and she used Paint Tool Sai. I have a slightly generalized understanding of the things you're saying and the process but still, it's very impressive.

The first one is really not bad at all. There’s a definite sense of volume in places, the hands look decent, and the hair has a clear(ish) form. It reminds me of the old edutainment games from the 90s. Very charming.
The redraw is definitely better, though. Infinitely so. No contest.
