12:03 I'll never buy an R/C tank....me? I'd first equip it with .22 or .177 air rifle pellets and if that worked, I'd upgrade to .22 shorts......not because I want to go around shooting anyone but because that's how I roll lol. I designed an airwolfe helo system back in the 80's that dropped actual incendiary bombs and fired rockets lol... I worked in an architectural dept in a large corporation and one of the bosses saw me working on it on my drafting board.....we didn't have all the micro electronics but a couple of the engineers got wind of it and came over to lend me their expertise lol. That project actually landed me a job in another dept when the manager got wind of it. It was designing store fixtures. After they offered me the position about 2 weeks in we were on a scouting mission and he told me "you know why you got this job? that helicopter you were drawing up. If you can design something like that, you can easily handle anything we throw at you".
Being a kid in the 80's and seeing an rc car going 20mph bouncing out of control on grass was incredible. It's great these rc companies rereleasing models for us old guys. Good memories
As a kid I used to go to bed with the Tamiya magazine on my lap dreaming about these things, I got the grasshopper one Xmas then a couple of years later the Boomerang, 30 years on I own about 25 rc cars, when a man gets bored of toys, hes probably bored with life.
@@thehomefront1905 I remember ordering my grasshopper from a Sears catalog and also had a boomerang that I rigged up with clod buster tires. I used old necklaces as chains on the tires in the snow.
Ahh...my first RC car ever when I was a kid was a Grasshopper buggy that you had to build from a kit. Not the one in the window he shows in the video, it was a real 2WD buggy. It's actually right behind the Grasshopper II in this video...such great memories...
My first 2 RC cars were TAMIYA! 1. The lunchbox 2. The grasshopper Brings back good memories, that was in the late 80's . They were very nice, well built machines and lasted many years. TAMIYA IS TOP NOTCH !! Anyone that is interested in getting into RC anything, TAMIYA IS A GREAT PLACE TO START. 👍 WATCHING this video makes me smile 😊.
You haven’t lived till you have built and modified a Tamiya Clod Buster!!! I’m so glad you have expanded into the world of Tamiya! The super Avante is new and I think you’ll love it!
At 44 years old... i would be a real kid in this Shop!! Tamiya box designers are really mastering the job!!! + their ability to maintain old models or re re re release !! Clearly not the top performance products but what a Fantastic brand.
That Shop is heaven on earth for me. Got the Volvo Wrecker,The Fh 16 woodtruck and my old faithfull Fh 12. Now converting another wrecker to a heavy transport tractor with 3axle transimission and a Fury Bear 2+5 axle extending lowloader behind it. But those Jaegermeister,Martini and Valliant porsches 1-12 i would buy without blinking with my eyes. Bet i need a 20FT seacontainer to bring my haul back home
Tamiya was a massive part of my childhood and many gen X'ers. Started with the mini 4wd, then got the boomerang. as well as the plastic kitsets. Later in life i got the BTCC mondeo.
I still have my original rough rider and sand scorcher cars. And the Yamaha round the world rc boat. A lot of the kits in this store aren’t even available in the states. Wonderful tour.
I appreciate your effort. I think you guys need to get plenty of Tamiya & Kyosho on your channel with some good cinematography also throw in a lot of crawler action guys.
Back in 1986, i got a tamiya 1/10 Ford Ranger from a small but incredibly stuffed hobby shop behind the alleys of Kimberly Street. Those were treasure troves back then.
Wow, thank you so much for this video! What an amazing place. I very much want to go to there. Buzz has my dream job! TheRCKiwis definitely need a Tamiya (or 2 or 3) in their collection.
Great video, I was just sat here mouth open at all the stuff they have and I want. At the start of the video I thought I wanted to visit the shop, then halfway through I was wondering if Buzz would like to job share, but at the end I realised, I think I just want to live in the shop, eat biscuits and build models all day. Goals 😂😆👍
The original Tamiya Avante was a beast of an RC. Got it for xmas 32 years ago and absolutely thrashed it for about 15 years! I would love to get a re-release of this!
Wow that store was amazing. Shame they didn't have the Konghead. I noticed that they had the Volvo A60H Hauler 6x6 which is almost the same and has the advantage that you don't need to paint it. I built one recently and it's very cool. One little tip about your GoPro is that you can get rid of the flicker from mains powered lights by matching the frame rate to the hz of the mains power of the country you are in. I think that Hong Kong is 50hz like the UK but I could be wrong. There is an anti flicker setting in the general settings on the camera and you can choose 50hz or 60hz 🙂
Online ordering has closed many, many local hobby shops. 4 in my area alone. Can't say I blame them. You can get these much cheaper online. No overhead costs.
I remember being a kid in the 80’s and seeing older kids with their old school Grasshoppers and Scorpions but then realizing I had to assemble them myself and I was like f that I’m getting a Tyco lol.
I've wanted a Lunch Box since I can remember. My Father was a Tamiya freak and my first ever r/c was a Tamiya Twin Detonator. Still have it almost 20 years later!
My very first RC car was a Tamiya! It was a 2WD Audi Quattro that my dad assembled for me sometimes in the eighties. I sold it later though.. I loved that car.
I have to admit I have a Hornet thats been sitting in pieces on the shelf for 12yrs... oops... the trouble is that it broke within 10mins of first using it, and I got put off RC's until lockdown... Joe, you've inspired me to get my arse in gear and get it running again... instead of watching your vids and buying your recommendations left right and centre! (but I'll still do that too!)
Hahaha yeah man get into it! Tbh I do the same a lot of the time, more so with builds... But those semi trucks are sooo nice looking I cant wait to build one! 😁🍻
Oh man! I love Tamiyas! I've got loads but wow! This shop is awesome! So you mention the 6x6 King Yellow.... I think instead you should go for the Volvo A60 dump truck instead. See it at 5:12 - Its the same G6-01 chassis as the KY but its a way better model it looks so much cooler & more realistic. You'll be amazed by that full gear driven drive system inside the chassis. Its a thing to behold! If you do go for it, upgrade it with a full bearing set, 6x CVA oil dampers, put some thick oil/grease in all 3 diffs. Aim to make it 4 wheel steering then pop a crawler motor in & head to the woods for some scale realism & watch it climb 45° muddy slopes. Have fun!
Thank you for being able to film correctly, some people might as well tie a camera to a dog's back and let him go. They do not even pause long enough for the camera to focus.
Ah yes, My first was the Blackfoot 2WD truck. Then the 4WD Tamiya Hot Shot. Then I added all metal bearings of course. I actually raced these at the local track. I won many a blue ribbon and other stuff, such as new modded motors. Many years later, after I retired from the US Army, in January 1994, I started collecting the 18 Wheelers. First was the Knight Hauler and the Maersk box trailer. I also got the MFC-01 (American) light and sound kit, Motorized landing legs, trailer light kit. All metal bearing set. Later I added the side marker lights. The side markers were the only add-on lights I could find. My next one was the Scania R620, added MFC-03 (European) lights and sound kit, Flatbed Trailer with motorized landing legs and lights. All metal bearings set. I then started adding the extras, like all of the available lights to the Scania R620. Also, flashing amber lights I mounted on top. I also upgraded the cab locking mechanism with the "Cab Shell Buckle Cab Lock Catch" The Scania has been the most expensive of all upgrades. Hell, some of these lights were quite expensive. Next was the Freightliner Cascadia Evolution, added the MFC-01 (American) lights and sound kit. The gas Tanker trailer (Gallant Eagle) w/motorized landing legs and light kit. All metal bearing set. I also added interior lighting along with a back wall in the cab. Just for shits and giggles, I added a "STAR WARS Galaxy of Adventures First Order Driver". lol Too bad there isn't any addable lights for it that I could find. I then added the Carson, "Goldhofer" low loader trailer to haul my Huina excavator around. I painted the trailer to match the truck. Looks awesome! Quite expensive though. Yes, this ended up being extremely expensive. But, with my military retirement, my job and my wife's job, I could afford it. This was the only way I could afford such an endeavor. lol My grandson will be grateful. lol
My biggest item on my wishlist would be the Egress kit. I had an Avanté as my very first RC in 1990 or 1991 and it was awesome. I always wanted to buy the egress but it was a little out of my reach back then. So that's probably the one kit I would love to own.
You should definitely get a globe liner or king hauler kit. There is a huge number of people on facebook groups to help answer questions you have and they are fun to build !
OMG is that a silver Tamiya Bruiser behind you in a clear case beside the semi trucks at the beginning? Very first rc car mag had that truck in blue on the cover and I wanted one so bad. Be mid 80’s probably.
The tanks and trucks are freaking awesome my man. I own a few and I can tell you for the realism, Tamiya can't be beat. Of course, for this level of scale and realism, it is very expensive.
Wow amazing thanks for the tour so many kits I would get if they were available in the US. Stocks are limited here. Like a kid in a candy store bro. Loved the Rc mart tour also appreciate it.
You can't go wrong with a classic re-release kit from Tamiya. The hornet is probably the most iconic imo but the Lunchbox for me is the most fun hands down as some of these early kits don't handle with particular accuracy the lunch box makes up for it with unpredictable fun, really great for both big kids and little kids on the beach or lawn. I would'nt go for the new avante but would definitely look at the 2011 re-release version tamiya# 58489 for a buggy 🤙. I especially love the japanese culture for these kits with custom paint jobs, hop-ups and everything. If i was in that shop I'd be all over those sweet rc tank kits!
I think the re-releases are nowhere near as good as the originals. I have owned some of the originals. I looked at the parts and builds and can see the differences.
Nice to heard Tamiya open a branch somewhere in Hong Kong... But sad news.. Tamiya had to Close their business in Malaysia... I can't see any official tamiya hobby shop in Malaysia since last year...
Kia ora. For a semi I'd possibly look at a tip truck. Don't worry about the sound kit just yet, use any esc and servos you want, and use one of your air radios like the NX8 you guys use. Also check out RC Haulers group in chch. Chur
Joe & Amber, RC Kiwis: If you want cool Tamiya buggies you have to have the ones from 1980-ies or the re-issues. The Hornet, The Frog, The (Nova) Fox, The Big Wig, The Super Shot or Super Hot Shot, The Wild One.. and so on.... They have style and are cult. In the 1980s one spent USD 500,- to 600,- average for 1 buggy, RC, battery and charger. It was quite expensive.
back in the early 80s RC racing was very big in my area Tamiya was a big player in the sport the hornet grasshopper and frog were common place at most RC tracks the lunch box was also very popular . Back then they had to be built from a box of parts and then you bought the radio battery pack and motor to run it later.
TAMIYA is the best model brand - stylewise. The re-issues from 1980-ies: Just great! Drawing the models - what a great idea and artwork! But where is The Falcon from the 1980-ies? We are waiting..
Too much maori awesome would like to know a few things about the store as I have started to build 1/14 scale heavy machinery as my hobbie adventure and i've found the parts and accessories are expensive but worth it . I'm halfway from finishing my flat bed and low load trailer to fit behind a Man prime mover . look forward to your information cheers kuzi Happy New Year to you an the whanau
I have 3 of the trucks, Knight Hauler, Scania R620 and the freightliner Cascadia Evolution. I was looking at the Globeliner. I got the Scania and the freightliner instead. I wanted a King Hauler, but they were out of stock at the time so I got the Knight Hauler. The king Hauler or the Grand Hauler has so much more potential for adding lights and other things than the Knight Hauler, such as the electric winch you can mount on the bumper. I have the Remote control winch, but nowhere to mount it on the trucks I have. Also the "Flat" roofs are really prime for adding things. Trucks like the freightliner, have slanted roofs. Making it impossible to add things. Such as beacons or even other lighting.
It would be sweet to have a stretched one with a lowboy and a loader or trac-hoe on the back. Definitely need to start saving to get one . Would you suggest kit then add what I would like or slowly piece by piece ?
Awesome video. Wish Tamiya established an official store there many many years ago. Anyways, you should have at least bought something. The Tamiya Mini 4WDs are really awesome and popular for kids and adults (I've been growing my collection since the 80s). They're quick to build, fun to race with, and there are a couple of spaces that have bigger tracks in HK to race on (similar to what you did with Mini-Z's). I recommend you build one (or more), add hop ups, and visit one of these places sometime in the future. Real question: How do you handle transporting all the RC gear, kits and boxes internationally every time you move from place to place?
Hey! Because of work right now and living out of a suitcase I'll make most of my rc purchases right before I leave to go back to New Zealand. Right now the cars I have here are stored at a mates 😅 when I go back Ill pack them all in a massive oversized bag and check it in 😉
Comment below anything you see interesting in this video? What do you want to see us get for the channel? 😁
How about a Sand Scorcher or a Box Lunch? Both of those seem like they totally mesh with your driving style.
@@christiantheimprovguy1769 im thinking we will have to get the lunch box at some stage!

Two tamiya kits u would like one would be the knights hauler truck and the other kit would be the blitzer beetle kit. Thanks for the vid 👍
Japan is the best place to visit. Thankfully, my wife is Japanese so I've got the best guide to find all the hidden gems.
One of those racing semi’s and the one cab over semi with the logs of course.
This video is awesome. I’m going online now to buy the king hauler
Epic!!! Glad you enjoed the video 😁🍻
I hope you scored that Bull Head truck, Joe!
back in the early 80s RC racing was very big in my area Tamiya was a big player in the sport the hornet grasshopper and frog were common place at most RC tracks the lunch box was also very popular . Back then they had to be built from a box of parts and then you bought the radio battery pack and motor to run it later.
You forgot the 4WD Hotshot. It was one of my first. I won a lot of stuff with that one.
Uhhhh … Heaven!
At 12:49 the 6x6 Dynahead Truck looks cool
TAMIYA is the best model brand - stylewise. The re-issues from 1980-ies: Just great! Drawing the models - what a great idea and artwork! But where is The Falcon from the 1980-ies? We are waiting..
You should buy the 3 speed bruiser.
Visit the Kyosho store Omotesando in Japan. You’ll like it too.
Tamiya wild one Blockhead is awesome
Ok now that Australian borders are about to open again, I’m going to HK!! What a cool store. Thanks for posting.
😂 Good luck with the quarantine here... 😅
@@TheRcKiwis doh! Didn’t think about the HK side of things! :(
My brother had the old Avanti. It was fast but fragile.
For a brief second I saw the Jordan / 7up Formula 1 car that I built.
I still have my tamiya hornet, it's missing a lot of parts but I loved it back in the day
Always wanted a globe liner . On my bucket list of trucks to drive .
Get the Tamiya Top Force Evo, its awesome vintage buggy. Full of Carbon fibre goodness.
Right now the cars I have here are stored at a mates 😅 when I go back Ill pack them all in a massive oversized bag and check it in 😉
Woww... MY Dream store!
