  • Our scuba diving vacation in Belize in December of 2018. Filmed with a GoPro Hero7 Black in 4K. 10 dives with Amigos Del Mar dive shop including the Blue Hole. Jungle tour to Myan ruins and a cave tubing trip.
The Hero 7 did an absolutely amazing job with image stabilization and video quality. The colors are incredible even without using a red filter on any of the dives.

Props to the dude in white! Excellent buoyancy control and I like how he doesn't touch the fish unless necessary (i.e. gently moving the shark in another direction away from him).

It looks even beautiful without Filter !
But with a red filter it would give back some more colors

I don’t understand how nobody is afraid of that one big shark with the hook in its mouth. Please explain!

Great video with clear quality! What is the size of your memory card? Does 4K video eats up lot of memory space?

I have a 128Gb card for my Hero 7. With that card, I can get about four hours of 4K video at 30fps. I typically download the files to my computer after each day's dives then format the card so it's ready for the next day. Yes, 4k (30fps) files are big and use about 500mb every minute.

I would be more worried about battery with 4K settings :)

Great video. It didn't appear that you were using any filters on your dives, but the footage was excellent. Can you provide the settings you use on your GoPro? I'm getting ready to purchase a Hero 7 Black, and would like to get some advise on the settings. Thanks, Kirk (Fort Worth, TX)

Yes, please provide your settings - assuming you turned ProTune On?

I did not use any filters. I had read online somewhere that starting with the Hero 6 filters were no longer necessary. Most of my video from this trip was probably in the 40-60' depths and the color of the coral and fish was very good. I did not use ProTune. It was turned off. My video settings were 4K 30FPS, FOV: Wide, Low Light: N/A, Stabilization: Auto, and Protune: Off. Everyone I was diving with, including myself, were simply amazed at the quality of the Hero 7! After we watched the first clip on the surface interval on my phone, they all said they were upgrading! I'm currently working on a review on this camera targeted at scuba diving.

@@ricsholidaysandadventures4360 it still helps usin filters. I have a 6 and hero 7 and I use them, makes it easier colour grading later or if you use gopro colour and use the filter, no need to colour grade. Your footage is awesome, but its very blue thats all

I thought that when you video in 4K the image stabilisation wouldn’t work. What setting did you use to get the image stabilisation with the 4K. I think. Red filter would improve the colour!

I filmed in 16x9 4k 30fps with stabilization on. I did a quick Google search and looks like there is an update to the camera's firmware that enabled it where it didn't have it before.

Thanks. I’ll try that on my next trip. I have used a gopro 2, 3 and 4 and have used a filter and I also use lights. I used the 7 with filters and lights for my last video (‘surprisingly good diving in Akumal, Mexico’) which I only shot in HD. Next week I’ll be diving in the Philippines so I’ll try your settings! But even with the gooro7 the filter or lights are still essential for a really good result.

Hey Rick, I am thinking about getting this GoPro for a trip to St.Lucia. I don’t know much about Go Pro but what would be some essentials to buy, if I also plan on trying to get underwater footage? I may be able to do a shallow dive, but not sure...

I would recommend the dive case since you will be taking it underwater to be sure you. I also recommend a way to tether the camera to you. I use a Gear Keeper retractable cable to keep mine tethered to me. Extra batteries are a must especially if you'll be doing more than one dive, or plan on recording more than one hour.
