Wow, I saw this guy hit it at a senior tour event in Newport Beach, CA years ago and I remember thinking to myself, there is a guy who hits it pure. You watch him on the backswing and run for cover and then you hear the compression of contact and step back and ponder everything anyone ever told you about golf. It causes one to reevaluate what is really important in a golf swing. Solid!

Arnold had an ugly swing. A totally gross finish he wasn’t too bad. Jim Furyk is hideous but he’s a great golfer. Bubba Watson is not pretty. He never took a lesson in his life.

He won 11 times on The PGA Tour. Holding off guys like Nicklaus, Palmer, Player, Casper, Crenshaw.
Won 24 times on the Senior PGA Tour, of which 5 were Senior Majors.
n 1973, Barber won the longest regulation tournament in PGA Tour history. The World Open Golf Championship played at Pinehurst Country Club. It was a 144-hole affair. Barber won by three strokes over Ben Crenshaw.

He was pretty good. I loved watching him: it was like, "Hey, the guy from the hardware store is just 2 stokes back"

Barber looks as good at impact as anyone that has ever lived. Saw him play many times. The sound of the strike and ball flight was pure. He hit it very long as well.

If you saw Miller Barber take a practice swing, you would think, "I can beat this old geezer." That would be a bad mistake. They called him "Mr. X" on the PGA tour.

I saw him at the US Senior Open at Hazeltine, the first time I had seen a pro swing a club in person. I could not believe the club head speed of that ol' boy.

Just goes to show you that the past players were not so caught up in the backswing, happy feet etc. They were concerned mosty about making great contact.. Thanks for posting. _Hammer

Miller Barber paved the way for Jim Furyk and Ryan Moore, the current lineage holders of the steep then shallow golf swing.

Geez! Repeating that even once takes some nerve. Winning with it takes some serious skill. My hat's off to Barber.

Like Trevino said.....the golf swing itself is not as important as the club position 6 inches in front of impact and 6 inches after impact. Mr Barber is a perfect example

I play with an old set of Powerbilt clubs. If Powerbilt is good enough for Miller Barbar it's good enough for me. WOO PIG SOOIE ! Barber was a RAZORBACK.

You are correct ! The finals at Tour School 2012 at PGA West, all the players were working on their backswings ? All different not two PGA Tour players with the same backswing ! Carl

very similar set up and very similar action (after the backswing) to moe norman

  • @drbobperkins

The guy didn’t go even close to parallel on his backswing. It’s almost vertical. Just an ugly swing all around (until point of impact). Love the guy.

I find that a "loopy" swing gives me more rhythm and I hit it better. Trying to be "perfect" just... ruins my game.

One of the worst backswings in history ; but the downswing is a work of art. Perfectly on plane.

  • @jcm9273
    @jcm9273 Год назад

One of the ugliest backswings a pro’s ever had but his downswing was no joke. Just goes to show what’s important.
