the spray bottle idea is by far the smartest i’ve come across! thank you :)
Glad it was helpful! I don't like the idea of pouring it all over the cake, I feel like it's too much!
Good morning! I love watching your videos in the morning. Your happiness is contagious. Tha!

Any time!
Your amazing! I kept asking so many questions on this and you made a video yay!! So I’ll start adding this to all my cakes now lol! Cause I believe you said this is good on any cake flavor :)
Thank you!
Yes! I use it on all cake flavors! You can omit the vanilla if you don't want that added flavor.

Thank you girl! 🥰🥳
Thank you so much😊😊now i have idea how to make that hehehe
I just want to say I love you..thanks for sharing 🥰
You’re welcome, I love you back!!☺️☺️
Hi. I’m new subscriber from Southern California. I’m glad I found you! I’m cake decorator at home business. I used to working at Nothing Bundt Cakes then laid off. I’m learning some of your tips. Your cakes looks so awesome! 🥰
Hi Heidi! I’m sorry you got laid off. But that happened just to direct you to a better place. 💜🙏🏼
I'm wondering how they could lay off people because they could possibly start doing their recipes, or are you sworn to secrecy? I just wondered, that's all😄
Your tutorials are like "Dinner and a Show!" You are hilarious and informative at the same time! And why did this video show up today as I was about to type "Simple Syrup" in the search bar?! Thank you for sharing! I always appreciate your videos.
It's because I knew you needed to know! 😂
@@KarolynsKakes 😂😂😂
Love watching your videos. I've learned so much, thank you! You have an amazing personality and are fun to watch. I never knew or heard of the word "moist being weird to say. 😂 this is the first!
I'm happy to have found your channel. Definitely one of my favorites to watch.
Do you spay the cakes before putting them in the freezer as well or just before decorating them?
Thank you Josephine! I don't spray them before I freeze them. Only after they are thawed as I'm filling them!
Your videos are the best! You are cute, funny, and so entertaining.
Thank you for thinking I’m funny! 🤣🤣
I have a really cool bottle that has basically a shower head as a lid and it rains the simple syrup over my cake. I love it. You could also use a water bottle and poke a few holes in the cap. I like the spray bottle idea too. Thank you.
Love your videos, where is the link to your e-book? Had to laugh about Syrup pronunciation, I live in the south, never really thought about that I say it the way you don’t like. Will remember if I am up north.😅
Thanks for your easy to follow videos, am learning a lot.
Moist... It's a word. Especially when describing yummy cake ♥️
We have to say it! 🤣🤣
Hi if I apply it to a single layer cake, like to a 8 inch round pan cake would it be ok or is it just really for layered cakes? Would you also apply it once you take it out of the oven or when the cake has cooled? Thank you 😊
I also add kaluah and coffee to my simple syrups for chocolate cake
I've never used this...I may do so today
I'm rolling that you put the word "MOIST" in its on box, which really made it stand out in the caption! 😂 😂 😂 I'll never understand why some people don't like the word! 🤷♂️ 🤦♂️ 😂
Also, I've always been a vanilla snob, but I gave the Wilton clear vanilla a try and omgoodness!!! So delicious and will save me so much money! ❤️
It’s the OI with the ST! 🤣🤣
And why is WCV so good?! Vanilla snob approved! 🙌🏼🙌🏼
I love this spray idea! I worry about over saturating and risking having the cake turn into quicksand lol… this is brilliant. Thank you! 💕💕💕
And I think it’s the “moy” in moist for me haha. But it’s great, you’re making “moist” sound less weird. I’m rolling with it with you 😜
It's the OI with the ST!! 😂😂
@@KarolynsKakes yup!! That’s it!! Hahaha 🤪
Your soo adorable!!!
Awwww thanks boo! 💜🙏
I need that pot! 😊
I linked it in the description!
Thanks for the video! Is there a best time to add the simple syrup? Should you add them before you freeze them or only once you’re ready to frost (unthaw)?
I always add it after it's thawed to room temp. The cakes are warm when I freeze them, so I wouldn't want to add it then. I wouldn't torte a warm cake because it would fall apart!
Thank you Karolyn! I hope this question isn’t too weird, (I promise I won’t say moist), but I was wondering how you edit your videos. Do you use a particular app and edit them yourself? I’m trying to learn how to do edits. Thanks!
I film on my iPhone 12 Pro Max and edit on the iMovie app! I had to watch YT videos to learn how to use the app but I picked it up really fast.
@@KarolynsKakes thank you for the info!
Hi and thank you for this video. Question for you, do you put simple syrup on a frozen cake or room temp cake? The one and only time I tried it on frozen layers I noticed that the liquid wasn’t absorbed and only sat on the surface of the cake layer.
I do it on room temp cakes. I freeze the layers, thaw them, then level them and spray the layers before I fill the cake. You're right, if the layers are frozen, then the syrup can't penetrate at all.
Girl, you made me laugh again! I love when people keep their ‘goof ups’ in their videos.
I never used simple syrup, my mom just sweats her cakes and she taught me that but I recently had an issue because I don't know what happened but the cake was crumbly and I felt so bad about it& I don't want to do that again so I'm going to have to start doing this I don't have room to freeze the Cakes tho, I'm Small and home based and never have a problem but this one was an exception... I don't do too many Layered cakes mostly pound cakes but lately I have had so many people asking so I have to rethink this😔 if you're doing a 6in cake what cake container works best for these size cakes? I normally do a plastic petal shaped dome container I get from my local cake supply for 10in cakes... I have an order for Easter, would be my first 6in, I'm self taught and my mom who's been baking for over 50 years @ home taught me what she knows, I have tried doing some things different, I'm still fun tho process of learning... I have a one lady that's requesting a 6in pineapple, I don't know if I should cut down the recipe or how to cut down the recipe for that size cake... I have so many questions, but I will definitely start using simple syrup in a spray bottle, I will have to make room in my freezer for when I am baking. Sorry for all of the questions. I just want to make things right by learning new ways of doing things
Could I DR a chocolate fudge cake mix Betty Crocker same way as vanilla?
Yes!! I do the same basic recipe for any flavor. I have a chocolate doctored cake mix video on my channel.
Thank you for always being responsive!
Do you mist the layers before or after freezing/refrigerating them??
After. So I bake, wrap in plastic and freeze overnight. Then I take out of the freezer and leave on the countertop (wrapped in plastic) to thaw. Then I level them and spray the layers before I fill the cake.
Cutest tutorial! Thank you! I LOL when you said people who pronounce “syrup” as “sir-up” annoy you! Me too! I heard it’s a Southern thing. Northern folks say “seer-up.” That’s how I pronounce it. There’s no “SIR” in syrup! 😊😂❤
That's right!! 😂😂
I am going to make a carrot cake. Should I use a simple syrup on that too to keep moist? Or is this just for like a white or yellow cake?
I use it on all of my cake flavors, so you can do it on carrot cake too!

This blueprint was a great guide. Thank you very much.
And Can you use that same syrup on any cake like for example of chocolate cake?
Yes! I use this simple syrup on all flavors I make.
Love from INDIA ❤
Sending love back from USA! 💜🙏
@@KarolynsKakes Thank you 💕
Do you have any tips on avoiding over mixing cupcakes batter and then keeping them moist?
Are you using a doctored mix or a scratch recipe?
With cupcakes, a lot of people keep them in the oven too long, which causes them to dry out.
Try taking them out a minute earlier if that's the case.
And after I make cupcakes, I let them cool for 1 minute.
Then I get a piece of cardboard or a cookie sheet, pull a piece of food safe plastic wrap over it. Then place the cupcakes on top. Wrap them in plastic and freeze them overnight. Freezing them while warm helps trap in the moisture!
@@KarolynsKakes thank you so much never thought of freezing them. I thought that was culprit bcuz I always bake them between 12-15 min but this time I baked them for 18 🤦♀️
Can you sprat the top of the cake if you don't cut the tops off? Or is this for only if you cut the tops of the cake off?
You can spray the tops. I just find that it penetrates the cake better if you spray it on the inside too.
Have you tried this on gluten free cakes ? Do you have any tips on keeping those moist? I have noticed that they dry out faster than a regular cake.
I haven't made GF cakes. I know it can be challenging to perfect a recipe and I usually refer people to a local GF bakery when they ask for one!
I use mine the same way 🥰my bottle is purple
It's so much easier to spray it on! 🙌
You crack me up!😂..."oh, I just spit!"🤣....I'm decorating my adult Son's birthday cake for tomorrow 😁😉💕....I'm actually "building" his Cake....I froze them for about 24 hours, transferred the 3 cake rounds to the Fridge. Do I need to set them out to "room temperature?"... Or, can I frost a "cold" Cake?... Or, frost it at room temperature?🌡️
I don’t ever put wrapped cake layers in the fridge, I get nervous that they could dry out. I take them from the freezer to the countertop to thaw. Here’s a video explaining it!
Don't Frost Frozen Cakes!

i wanted to know if we can use simple water instead of sugar syrup... won't sugar syrup affect the sweetness of the cake?
I find that it enhances the sweetness, not overpowering. Using just water will make the cake soggy.
Can I use the syrup on a wedding cake that will last for at least 3-6 months?
Do you mean a wedding cake that will have to be frozen? If so, then yes it will be okay.
Moist... Really?... I never thought that was a problem word until you pointed it out 😂😂😂😂
Omg my niece HATES it! 🤣🤣🤣
I never knew it was either until I met my husband. Every time I said the word he used to cringe. Can you believe that e wasn’t allowed to use that word in his house growing up. 🤣
I'm singing the moist song again, moist moist moist ...moist moist moist. I never thought of putting simple syrup in a spray bottle
The worst song ever! 😂😂
Do you use ganache on your cakes and if so how do you make it?
I only do to fill them. I don't like frosting the cakes with ganache as it's super messy. I'll film it the next time I make it!
Thank you! I’ll be waiting to see
Is boiling / heating necessary? What if it is dissolved without heating?
You don't have to boil it, heating it up just speeds up the process of the sugar dissolving. You can also put it in a container and shake it to blend (or use a blender). But you want to make sure all of the sugar is dissolved!
@@KarolynsKakes Great, thank you! I followed your instruction of not pouring over too much. However, in my case the sponge was a chocolate cake and too dense for which reason I had to put a lot. It would be great to know how much to add per pound of cake, roughly.
How do you store the syrup
I keep it in the fridge, it's good for up to a month.
Quick question with your doctored boxed cake recipe when do I add simple syrup on cakes?
I bake, wrap and freeze. Thaw at room temp (still wrapped). Unwrap and torte / level the layers. Spray with simple syrup before filling the cake.
Can you brush it on?
You can brush it on if you prefer. I prefer the spray because it's a more uniform coating.
@KarolynsKakes Your wrapping and freezing while warm technique is WONDERFUL! It kept it so moist! I was wondering if you still sprayed simple syrup on it before filling?
I think more people would have more of a funny ha ha for the wooder(water) pronunciation than moist. I've been out of Philly 21 years and I try to not say wooder and I say water so funky. But the 2nd I'm close to home I'm wooder all the way.
Embrace the Philly in you, don't let it go! 😂😂
Who doesn’t want a delicious and moist cake!! Let’s say it together “moiST.” 😆😂
Let’s make it an acceptable word! 🤣🤣
@@KarolynsKakes MOIST MOIST MOIST
So saying moisturizer is obscene now?? So how do we say it in that case? M*"rizer?
Yes 😂😂😂😂
I make mine in the microwave
How long do you heat it for?
@@KarolynsKakes 30 sec and then another 30 sec.. Then stir til fully dissolved
MOIST!!!!!!!
😂😂
“Whoter” 😂 cute accent
😂😊🙏
Somebody bit your spatula!
😂😂😂 That actually happened gradually as I would use it to scrape my beater blade!
Get over it people 😂😂😂😂 You're just dirty minded
Yup! My daughters get weirded out by the word. So dumb! Dirty minded yup.
Took forever to get to the point
Sorry about that, I've gotten better over the years! Filming content is definitely a learning process.
Moist doesn’t bother me as much as “war-ter” and “warsh!” 🫣
Yeah, those are bad 😂
