    First off never apologize for the way you look. You're a very beautiful lady regardless of what outfit you're wearing. That being said I enjoy the information you share with me it is extremely helpful. You have very pleasant voice you explain things in ways I can understand them. You think it's for our patience you don't need to do that we should be thanking you for the knowledge you share with us. And it's a pleasure to watch your videos no patience needed. Have a blessed day

    Thanks so much for sharing your videos. They’re the best! I started playing this past Christmas, after always wanting to learn to play the violin. My mom had always wanted to play but growing up in a small town, she had no one around that could teach her. After retiring this year, I got her a violin for Christmas as a surprise and she got me one as well. We are both teaching ourselves and it’s going great. I just wanted to say thank you.

    being left handed, is there any suggestions? I bought a viola, thinking it was a violin, last fall. I then was like - "what's a Viola?" Research showed it is an awesome instrument. After changing careers from a bricklayer to a office worker, I had little time to teach myself. Now, due to the corona virus, I have much time to teach myself. I am learning how to read sheet music, work with a metronome (is that spelled correct), and learning how to tune viola, also replaced a string that broke and learned how to do that and now, terribly, I can play the entire song of, tis so sweet to know Jesus" The internet is so awesome, so much information to learn new skills and those, as yourself - skilled, to teach skills - AWESOME!!!

      Firstly, welcome to the Alto clef family! Secondly, it doesn't matter which hand is your dominant hand, we still play with the instrument in our left and bow in the right hand. The only exception I'm aware of is perhaps a couple of people who are down a couple of fingers, and have had customisations made - but I'm not going to begrudge anyone having an accessible instrument!

    Can you please do a video on why the more advanced players “twist” the bow when going towards the frog? Anything you can do to help bowing would be awesome.

    • @OhKnow379
      @OhKnow379 3 года назад +2

      You mean the bridge? The frog is what tightens the bow hair.

    • @anyatrioli3734
      @anyatrioli3734 2 года назад +2

      Do you mean when changing bow directions to help make it sound like one continuous note? Or rotating the bow hair a little for dynamics or tone?

    • @rdominion9793
      @rdominion9793 2 года назад +2

      I think what you mean is moving the bow on the edges of the strings, and they do this to not make much noise when resetting the bow

    • @rozzin6377
      @rozzin6377 2 года назад +6

      Oh like tilting it?? Because we want a consistent sound. The frog is heavier, so if you keep the bow flat while going upbow, it will get louder as you play. We twist the bow to balance the sound and play a consistent volume

      This lady is excellent and you don't feel overwhelmed. However you can refer to Julia Bushkova from the university of North Texas on RUclips. She explains it and she is a Doctor of music arts and was playing the violin from age 3 in Russia. Check it out Clay.

    Thank you (again!) Amber. I'm 7 weeks into lessons now, and the wild animal that is my violin, is gradually being tamed. My sound is not good ... but is improving ... but (intentional second "but"!) I so need help in trying to turn an amorphous, unpredictable roar into a melodious song. This video is very timely!

    Now that empty room should produce a big sound for you, but what is the ideal room size or furnishing that will not give you an over emphasized sound. I too sound like Pavarotti when I sing in the bathroom :-)

    Can I tune a viola lower than its regular tuning? If so how low. Thank you

    • @ViolinViolaMasterclass
      @ViolinViolaMasterclass  6 месяцев назад +1

      Hi there! Sure! Just use the pegs and slowly tune (down, or lower in pitch) don't recommend going higher in pitch...because the string might snap. Also, if you're changing the tuning a lot, it may affect the sound of your instrument...it may be better to have a cheap instrument that you just keep in another tuning. A lot of my students like to tune to 432 rather than 440--so their instrument sounds slightly flat, but its a lovely sound and I think it makes the instrument sound more relaxed :) Put your tuner on 432 and tune all your strings to their normal pitch--it'll just be flat if you play with someone else (or a piano) who is tuned to 440.
